For the price point, this lens does a great job. It focuses quickly and takes fabulous photos. I definitely recommend it.

I have a Tamron 18-400, Canon 75-300 and Canon 18-55 and this lens. I've used this lens for 95% of my pictures I since I received it ( 3 weeks) . I like the Tamron but I think picture quality can be an issue at times. The 75-300 is fine but I need a lens for wide angles so I have to change to the 18-55. This lens covers most of my work (landscape, up close architecture ) and I keep the 75-300 on my SL2 for the zoom occasions. At $600 it's pricey but I think it was worth the money.

The ONE Lens You Need for Everyday and Travel Shooting

BOY! I like this lens. I had both regular and STM versions of this lens, and the Canon EFS-18-200 mm zoom lens, before this model - and this is THE one lens you want to own for general, all-around daily and travel shooting. It does it all quite well, with reasonably good sharpness through the entire zoom range, and minimal softness and only minor color and geometric aberrations. Large, but not too big or heavy, it balances well on a camera body, and has excellent fit, finish, and appearance. This has proved a very good value and it ha held up well with much use over time. Not cheap - yet represents good value for the money. Of course, prime lenses ARE generally better, and lenses with more narrow zoom ranges, may be slightly better, but this lens delivers sharp images with good color rendition across the range. I have happily used this lens as a all-purpose lens when shooting large scale conventions where I had to capture many varied scenes, some close up, some farther away, sometimes shooting portraits, other times shooting large groups, and often shooting action indoors. As there is generally no time to change lenses to best suit the scene - one lens must do it all, and do it well, especially when some images will be selected for publication in a magazine, etc. I simply adjust for exposure and white balance, and shoot away, quickly zooming in and out to compose the shot - as focus and exposure are very accurate and reliable. AND, this is the ONE lens I would take on a trip across Europe or across the US - it covers wide to modest tele and everything in between - excellent when touring factories, breweries, distilleries (my favorite), and museums. Can ya tell I really LIKE this lens ? I think you will too. AND, buy it from B&H because NOBODY does what it does better. Just MY take - your mileage may vary. TT

Purchased to replace the kit lens that came with my Canon Rebel T6i. The price was more than I really wanted to spend, and it is noticeably heavier, but the additional zoom range, improved depth of field, and over all better/crisper images left me with zero regrets.

Great product!

Lightweight and sharp - great travel lens

I bought this lens mostly to use as a one-size-fits-all travel lens with an 800D and 90D bodies, giving me an effective 28-220 lens (compared to full-frame, accounting for the APS-C crop-factor). Focus is fast, silent and accurate. Bokeh is not bad - check out the Monarch photo attached. It is great for traveling when I only have room to pack the smaller body and one lens. I can also use it on my EOS C100 Mk II, as it is on the short-list of lenses that support DPAF face-detection. This is also the only lens supported by the Canon PZ-E1 power zoom adapter, so I can use the BR-E1 remote to control zoom, focus and shutter. Overall when I compare images from the 90D with this lens, versus 5D Mk IV using L-series lenses, I can hardly notice any difference. There is some vignetting, but the lens profile corrections built-in to Lightroom make this a non-issue. Very satisfied with this lens.

question

Is there a constant aperture version of the 18-135mm? It seems like there are only full frame constant zooms except for Sony.
Asked by: Zanin
In order to be small and affordable, everything lenses (which have focal lengths from very wide to very telephoto) have variable apertures. But take heart, constant aperture zooms are available. However they are aimed to the pro market since pros hate dealing with variable aperture as well. The closest to 18-135mm I would like to suggest is the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM Lens B&H # CA241054LIS2. It has superb image quality and is a very usable zoom on a full frame camera. The 24mm is a little tight on an APS-C camera. I too am waiting for the day when I can get a 10-1000mm f/2.0 IS lens that is 4 , weighs 8 oz and goes for $100.00. Until then...

Hi, its been over tbree years since release, will this lens along with the PZ-E1 Power Zoom Adapter work on a C100 MKII, are these compatable?
Asked by: Frank
I use the power zoom on the 18-135 on a 7D-II with no problem - the zoom function has nothing to do w the camera. Unless it just won't fit, I'm guessing the power adapter should work with any camera the lens will fit.
