Vanguard ENDEAVOR ED IV 8420 Overview

  • 1Description

Building on the success of their earlier iterations, the Vanguard Optics 8x42 Endeavor ED IV Binocular gets upgraded with HOYA extra-low dispersion (ED) glass, phase-corrected SK-15 roof prisms, and their advanced MultiGuard optical coatings to improve light transmission, color rendition, clarity, and contrast; while eliminating chromatic aberration. These updated technologies and materials work together to produce an immersive observational experience on the trail, at the range, in the stadium, or sightseeing around town. To pick out feather and fauna details, the binocular boasts an impressive 5.9' close focus distance.

An open-bridge/dual-hinge design helps to reduce weight without sacrificing strength, and provides a large surface area to improve grip strength and security. Textured rubber armoring offers protection from drops and impacts, while further improving the grip and comfort in the hand. Designed for durability, the lightweight magnesium-alloy housing is nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions. The Endeavor ED IV's provide the performance and comfort birders, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts require for long observation sessions in all weather.

Optical Performance

Vanguard ENDEAVOR ED IV 8420 Reviews

8x42 Endeavor ED IV Binocular is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent alternative to the name-brand choices I'm giving these binoculars a 4.5/5 stars. Aside from a couple of minor exceptions, the ED IV binoculars are a great alternative to the $2500 Leica or other high-end binoculars. Now, you wouldn't regret buying the $2500 Leica UVHD+ 8x42 binoculars but your pocket book might. Without a doubt, they are superior but for someone looking to buy quality binoculars on a budget then you would be very happy with the new ED IV 8x42 binoculars from Vanguard. My particular unit arrived with its name-plate partially detached; however, this was an easy fix. The included accessories are a nice touch and appear to be of decent quality. My only complaints: The ED IV does have a long, tubular viewpoint. This means when you look into the eyepieces, it looks like you're looking thru a telescope. The optics of the ED IV are quite good especially for a Chinese maker; although the yellow-tint is quite noticeable against certain backgrounds. Deep blues will have a greenish tint and green trees might look a bit hazy. This is likely due to the coatings applied to the internal glass. This is not a defect per se, but some people do prefer a natural clarity. My other nitpick is the stiff focus wheel. This will likely get better with further usage but the high-end binoculars don't have stiff focus wheels out-of-the-box. You do pay for this extra feature however. Perhaps a slight nitpick is the ED IV size and weight -- compared to the higher-end units. They are a tad larger and a bit heavy but I don't see this as a problem. If anything the extra size and weight gives them more rigidity and toughness. They'll likely last a very long time. One nice, new feature that I like is the open-bridge design of the ED IV binoculars. This does allow for a better grip especially if you have larger hands.
