This is the third Orca bag that I’ve purchased for use with one of my portable sound recorders. I also have used bags from a few other companies as well, but I really like the quality, sturdiness and flexibility of the Orca bags. Recently, I bought a Zoom F8N and originally purchased an Orca 272 for it, and while the recorder fits well inside, there isn’t much extra space for wireless transmitters, etc, unlike the OR-30 that I use with my Sound Devices 633. But when I decided to put the Zoom F8N into regular use, I felt that i needed a slightly bigger bag that could accommodate all the extras I typically need on a gig. After doing a bit of research on the ORCA website and elsewhere, I chose the OR-28. The Zoom F8N fits perfectly in one portion of the bag and I can fit my Audio Limited A10 RX, a smart battery and a Sennheiser G4 transmitter for a camera hops in the other section while still having a little breathing room. It’s easy to access all sides of the recorder for cable routing, etc., and there are plenty of zippers that further enhance that accessibility. I’m using the OR-28 with the OR-40 harness, which distributes the weight more evenly over your body, rather than just around your neck. This bag isn’t heavy, even when loaded with equipment, but after several hours, you might find yourself wishing you had the harness, so i highly recommend it, plus it will work with their other bags as well, should you have different setups and need to switch between them for any reason. The aluminum frame keeps the weight down, but also gives the bag rigidity, to protect the gear inside. I use the rear pouch, close to your body, to store business cards, extra SD cards and an SD card reader. My only complaint about this bag is that, unlike the OR-30, which has a zippered, detachable, front pouch, the OR-28’s pouch does not zip off, and while it’s spacious enough, it’s not as luxurious as the one on the OR-30. Even the OR-272 has a detachable pouch, which could fit the larger pouch from the OR-30. Still, the front pouch on the OR-28 allows me to fit some pens, flashlight, lav tape and the smaller bag that I keep my wireless transmitters in when they’re not being used. One other small complaint, is that unlike the OR-30, there are no transmitter pouches on the side panels, nor are there receptacles for them, so if you find that you need more than a couple channels of wireless for your rig and can’t find a way to fit them in the main compartment, you’re most likely either going to stuff them in the front pouch or hang them off the elastics on the side of the front pouch. Not ideal, but also not the end of the world. If, in the future, I find myself doing more film/video projects that require multiple wireless systems from a bag, I might consider looking into a larger bag, but for now, this fits my needs almost perfectly.

Nice bag for traveling light, and you WILL travel light as there's not much room. Fortunately, for me, it's exactly what I was looking for. Well-constructed bag with easy access to controls, jacks, and battery.

Wanted to love it

I bought this for my Zoom F8. Shows promise, needs work. I would love to be able to pre-build the F8 and leave it set up in the bag, but XLR plugs are too long to fit in the closed bag while connected to the F8. Too bad, this coulda been a perfect bag. Should be for the price. I bought some right angle connectors in a somewhat desperate effort to keep the F8 built, but with the available space, I can only connect two of the RA XLR to the F8, and that is only with sliding the F8 to one side of the bag and using velcro straps to lock it to that side.

Perfect fit.

For the last several years we've used a Petrol bag and we beat it up pretty good. The zippers were never great and the biggest pain to me was when I'd set the bag down and it would tip over. Our new ORCA bag solves every problem we had. The zippers are more robust. The see thru protective top can be removed to get it out of the way. Dual access to each side is SO much better than the sleeves on the Petrol. However the best feature is the internal frame. This not only keeps the equipment upright at all times but allows them to build 4 feet on the bottom of the bag. Between the frame and feet the equipment never moves around and the bag doesn't tip over when you set it down. Also, the bottom of this bag opens for access to connections or memory chips that may be on the bottom of our mixer. COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.

Very nice bag, built for use. Primarily use a Sound Devices Mixpre6, and it fits nicely. In the other compartment i put three sennheiser G3 wireless receivers. Cables easy to route from the different compartments. Pouches have plenty of room for extra bits. So far have been very happy with my purchase.

Will this fit the zoom f6? Looking for a solid bag to hold that as well as the deity connect.
Asked by: Lopati
I just received my OR-28 a couple of days back. I'm also using it with a Zoom F6, together with a set of wireless transmitters (Saramonics) for my grab-and-go, all-in-one audio rig for most of the video work that I do. The F6 and transmitters fit in with room to spare, like someone else mentioned. I still have space in there for my lav mics and other adaptors, tape, chest straps, stationary etc. I'm looking forward to doing some modifications to make full use of the extra space. Depending on your needs I'd say the extra space can be a blessing or curse because things tend to jiggle around abit if you got nothing to hold them in place.

Could you fit a Zoom H6 in this bag? Was planning on upgrading to a better recording unit down the road but was really curious.
Asked by: Adam
The Zoom H6 will fit into this bag, but because it has XLR mic connections on the two sides of the unit, you may have difficulty making it work when sources are connected. Access to these connections would also be limited. Perhaps, a reasonably-priced case such as the Zoom PCH-6 Protective Case for Zoom H6 Handy Recorder, BH #ZOZPCH6 could be used until you upgrade to a larger mixer.

Asked by: Zachary
No, the ORCA OR-28 Mini Audio Bag is a bit too small for the Sound Devices 833, but the ORCA OR-30 Audio Mixer Bag (B&H # OROR30) and the ORCA OR-330 Sound Bag (B&H # OR330) are both designed for use with the 833. Other compatible options include the Arco AS-A10G Small Bag for Audio Field Recorder (B&H # ARASA10G), the Sachtler Lightweight Audio Bag - Small (B&H # SALWABS), and the PortaBrace MXC-833 Custom-Fit Carrying Case (B&H # POMXC833).You can find more compatible options for cases and bags listed under the "Accessories" tab on the item page for the Sound Devices 833 8-Channel / 12-Track Multitrack Field Recorder (B&H # SO833).

The OR-28 is a bit small for the SD 702. ORCA's OR-32 Audio / Mixer Bag (B&H # OROR32) is the right size.

Asked by: Harris
Per Tascam the dimensions on the DR680MKII is - 8.5" × 2.2" × 7.4" / 216.4 × 56 × 188.4 mm The OR-28 internal measurements are - 8.46” x 4.52” x 6.49” making it too small for the OR-28. The OR-280 would be a better fit with internal of 9.44” x 4.52” x 7.87”

I'm getting a SD Mix-pre 6 ii, should I get this bag (OR-28) or the (OR-27). They seem so similar other that this one being a little wider. Is that the only difference?
Asked by: Shaun
The Mixpre-6 II will fit in both the OR-28 and OR-27. The two Orca bags are very similar in design but differ in their width and height. Dimensions of the Mixpre-6 II are 6.5 x 1.4 x 4.6" (166 x 36 x 118mm). The interior of the OR-28 is 8.5 x 4.5 x 6.5" (215 x 115 x 165mm) and the smaller OR-27 is 8.5 x 3.5 x 5.1" (215 x 90 x 130mm), The interior of the OR-28 is 0.98" (25mm) wider and 1.38" (35mm) taller than the interior of the OR-27.
