Think Tank Photo Retrospective 10 overview

  • 1Description

The sandstone Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag from Think Tank is a small, discreet and simple bag designed for the photographer who carries a small system like one pro DSLR with a standard zoom plus 1-3 lenses. Or, it can hold a pro DSLR and 2-4 lenses in the main compartment. The interior dividers are customizable to accommodate the gear you carry on any given day.

The large front flap covers the entire bag and prevents anyone from seeing what's inside. The hook & loop closure is unique with its Sound Silencer system that eliminate the tearing sound normally encountered when you open a camera bag. This is especially valuable when you are shooting in quiet venues like courts, wedding services or chess matches.

The inside of the bag contains an organizer pocket that is perfect for a note pad, mic, or small pack of tissues. Two collapsible nylon pockets are inside and are designed to hold a flash or other similar sized accessory.

Outside, an expandable pocket is large enough for a regular size DSLR body. The back of bag has a wide storage pocket that is made to hold collateral material like paperwork, maps or a note pad. Additional webbing loops are found outside to hold some small Modular, Skin or Multimedia pouches. Or, you can attach a carabiner to it for quick access items like keys. Two side pockets will hold small water bottles or even some small shoe-mount strobe lights. Under the main flap, you have a business card holder.

The carry handle is removable and the shoulder strap contains some non-slip material to keep the bag stable while moving. There's also a breathable cushioned pad along the strap to aid in positioning.

For complete protection, there's a neat rain cover that can be rapidly deployed when the weather turns sour. The cover has been configured to allow the handle and strap to extend but not interfere with the security of your gear. The Retrospective is backed by Think Tank's lifetime warranty against manufacturer's defects.

The exterior of each Retrospective shoulder bag is purposefully simple, allowing photographers to inconspicuously blend into their shooting environment
The "Sound Silencers" underneath the main flap eliminate the loud tearing sound hook-and-loop makes while opening the bag. Simply release the Sound Silencer panels and cover the hook-and-loop strips to prevent the hook-and-loop from contacting
A clear business card pocket, for identification and spare cards, is located under the main flap
Hook-and-loop panels securely fastens the main flap down keeping valuable photo equipment hidden from view
An organizer pocket is located inside the main compartment. It gives photographers enough space for small, but significant, accessories necessary for a successful shoot
All the dividers inside the bag are removable so the interior can be customized to any photographer's set of gear
Inside the main compartment are two collapsible nylon pockets (one on each side). These pockets are tall enough to fit most flash units or other accessories. A hook-and-loop strap can be used to secure the contents or it can be tucked into the pocket for quicker access
An expandable pocket on the front of the Retrospective can be used to carry a regular size DSLR body
A wide storage pocket is located on the back of the Retrospective. This pocket can be used to carry small maps, booklets or other paperwork
Removable carrying handle
A fully adjustable, canvas strap is integrated into the bag. For extra comfort, a breathable cushioned pad slides along the strap for optimum positioning. Sections of non-slip material on the pad helps keep the entire strap on your shoulder
Webbing loops on both sides of the Retrospective can be used to carry some small Modular, Skin or Multimedia pouches on the side of the bag. Alternatively, a carabiner (not included) can be used to quickly clip accessories to the sides of the bag as well
Side pockets on both sides can be used to carry smaller water bottles and will even fit some shoe-mounted strobe units
The included seam-sealed rain cover was specially designed to keep the carrying handle and integrated shoulder strap outside the rain cover without compromising protection from the elements
One pro size DSLR with standard zoom and 1-3 lenses in the main compartment
One pro DSLR and 2-4 lenses in the main compartment

Think Tank Photo Retrospective 10 reviews

Retrospective 10 Shoulder Bag (Sandstone) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excelent Shoulder Bag. I was looking for a shoulder bag were I was able to carry only my Camera and two lenses. I was looking for a shoulder bag to be used in street photography or just for walking in the city. My main gear to be used with this bag is my Canon 7D/Gripped with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 attached and I also need to throw in the 24-105mm or the 17-40mm. Yes, I'm able to use it with Canon 7D/Gripped with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 attached and there is still room for my other lenses. There are also plenty of space in front of the bag to include other stuff. The construction and Quality of this bag is superb.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another great think tank product I use a think tank urban disguise bag as a carry on for a lot of gear but it's clearly too big to use as a day pack. The retrospective 10 serves that purpose in grand fashion. It is relatively small and extremely comfortable on the shoulder. It holds a pro size body with standard zoom attached and 70-200 not mounted. Can also fit 16-35 f4, sb-910 flash and numerous accessories. Certainly all you need for a day shooting can be put into this pack. The material appears very durable and I love the color. Definitely doesn't look like your typical camera bag, which I guess is the point. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Bag! This bag really works. I was looking for a comfortable walk around bag and after reviewing the specs decided to give this one a try. So far it has exceeded my expectations. I can fit my Nikon D4 with 28-70 f2.8 attached, 80-200 f2.8, 14-24 f2.8, 50 f1.8, SB800 Speedlight, and other various accessories (filters, battery, etc.). Although a bit tight, this entire kit fits. Perhaps more than I would carry for a casual shoot, but the Retrospective 10 swallows this gear easily. To be honest I was shocked at it's capacity. The workmanship and overall quality is stellar. The padded strap is really comfortable. What's awesome is it's stealthy profile, it's very hard to identify this as a camera bag. Although a bit pricey, it's quality, capacity, style and comfort make it a winner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My final bag purchase... This bag fits all of my gear, is very well put together, and comfortable for lugging all day. For my setup, it is the perfect size: Canon 6D with 135L attached, 50mm f/1.4, 35L, and external flash. The front pouch is great for a few pocket wizards, some filters, memory cards, and batteries. The business card slot inside the front flap is genius, and it is the small things that really give Think Tank bags the edge. Although pricey, the build is exceptional and I expect this bag to last a lifetime. I would also highly suggest Think Tank's sling bag lineup if you are a hiker/outdoorsman.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best photo shoulder bag ever made I use this bag when I go on a vacation. I have Fuji system and the bag can easily accommodate two of my Fuji bodies, X-T2 and X-E2S with medium lenses on each, plus a couple of two small ones, like primes or a zoom like 18-55, plus different accessories. In addition, I have Retrospective 7 which is a bit narrower and smaller and I started to use #10 instead because of better possibilities to place more stuff into it, with less problems. By the way it's 40 grams lighter then #7 and a shoulder pad is wider and longer so it feels better when you carry it on either shoulder or across the body. Just excellent. I wish I'd have gotten it a long time ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from fantastic bag Use the retro 10 to carry my d7100 with 24-70 attached. A 12-24 wide angle and a 18-200 zoom in the main compartment of this bag. Plenty of room left for other flash, charger in main compartment also. With the other storage areas in this bag, unless you want to carry the entire kitchen sink of photography gear, then this is the bag for you. Especially like the fact that it doesn't look and scream I'm a camera bag--grab me! It carries all that I am interested in carrying. If I use other lenses, I just swap them out and leave some at home. This bag is going to last me a long time and it is super comfortable to carry with the over padded shoulder strap. I have had other shoulder bags and this one wins hands down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best photo bag I ever owned! Use it with canon 5d mark 3 and 24-70 2.8 lens. there's plenty of space for my flash, another lens and my personal items in the front and/or back pocket. This is a very solid bag which protect the camera and lenses very well - and yet, no one ever guessed it is a photo gear bag... I am using these bag (have 2 of them) all the time and for travels on the plane. I only wish the side pockets were a little wider so that I could fit in there my water bottle!!!!! As much as I have been using this bag - I did not find a use for those outside side pockets... :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This bag rocks I love this bag. Great quality that you can see and feel instantly. Looks awesome and not obviously like a camera bag - at least not like a touristy one. I also looked at the Lowepro messenger bag, the Domke courier bags, and the Billinghams. The Lowpro was far to soft for me. I like a camera bag that is more rigid. The Domke didn't have any good dividers inside. The Billingham look like old lady bags a in my opinion and are way overpriced. The only improvements I could think of would be to have a clasp/lock for closing the bag with extra security if desired (it only comes with velcro fittings)I also think the dividers could be a bit thicker. Apart from those minor issues I'm very happy with this bag. The price difference between this one and the Retrospective 20 is minimal but I chose to go with this one because it's more portable. This is the bag I use when I'm on the street. When I go to shoots I bring much more equipment, and a much bigger bag.
