Mitakon Zhongyi 35mm f/0.95 overview

  • 1Description

Pairing an incredibly fast maximum aperture with a standard focal length, this black Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 Mark II Lens from Mitakon Zhongyi is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length. The bright f/0.95 maximum aperture offers increased control over depth of field and focus, as well as benefitting working in low or difficult lighting conditions. Maintaining a high degree of image quality throughout the aperture range, a sophisticated optical design features both low dispersion and high refractive index elements to control chromatic aberrations and reduce color fringing.

Balancing the optical components is a robust all-metal lens body that facilitates a smooth manual focus design along with a manual de-clicked aperture ring for smooth, silent exposure adjustment. Depth of field and distance scales are also featured on the lens barrel to aid working with pre-focusing techniques.

A versatile standard prime, this 35mm lens is designed for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
An extremely fast f/0.95 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also avails considerable control over depth of field for selective focus applications.
The 11 elements, eight groups optical design incorporates one extra-low dispersion element, two extra-high refractive index elements, and three high refractive index elements to significantly reduce chromatic aberrations and fringing, as well as contribute to a high degree of sharpness and resolution.
Manual focus design is complemented by both depth of field and distance scales for utilizing pre-focusing and zone focusing techniques.
De-clicked aperture ring offers silent, smooth adjustment that is well-suited to video applications.
Nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Metal lens barrel offers increased durability, yet remains lightweight at 1 lb.

    Mitakon Zhongyi 35mm f/0.95 reviews

Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 Mark II Lens for Sony E (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much sharper then the MKI All in all a great lens, great all metal build extremely smooth and buttery aperture and focus ring great for video shooting. Much less chromatic abrasion and vignetting compared to the mitakon 50mm F0.95 (35mm sensor) and the MKI. Also much smaller and lighter. It's not a easy lens to use but with it you can get some really beautiful shots with. It also allows you to use very low powered lighting which is great for low budget shoots and kits. It also processes colors very nicely. Keep in mind: completely manual lens very shallow depth of field (hard to use for live events) with crop factor its more like a F1.4 Not as much of a wow factor as the 50mm F0.95

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful bokeh It is a heavy, well built, and sharp lens. This is the 2nd Gen of this lens and it is a lot lighter, smaller, and sharper than before. The f/0.95 is a stunningly fast lens. I have to shoot low iso and a shutter speed of 1/500-1/4000 on my a6000. I used it for some senior pictures and it has beautiful broken (background blur) and manual focus is no problem for there is focus magnification. I use full manual mode and it is easy to quick tweek the exposure by changing shutter speed or iso if I'm shooting f/0.95. The sharpness of this lens is better than the kit and the 55-210 when I go to 100% crop. It is a perfect portrait lens or if your good at manual focus it is a good family photo taking lens. The only negative I have is that it's a rolling or a un-clicking aperture ring that doest have the specific clicks for each aperture. All in all its a great lens!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surprisingly awesome!!! I wasn't sure about that lens because it's very difficult to find, actually impossible in Canada, and very little reviews on the web. I use it now with my Sony a6300 and I have to say it's pretty amazing. Very impressive Bokeh and perform extremely well in low light. Built super solid and it feels like it. Small and surprisingly heavy, the lens is all manual so you are pushed to improve your skill as a photographer and especially as a videographer. It needs a bit of practice but when you master it you realize where the lens can bring you and it's inspiring. One thing you have to consider if you buy that lens, is to get a variable ND filter. Without a filter you won't be able to video outside during day light with your lens opened at 0.95f up to 2.8f. I love it!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seriously Good Lens! I was expecting a fun lens that had interesting effects but wasn't super sharp or good with flare. But this lens ended up being so much better. Manual focus is pretty easy to get used to with a custom-mapped digital zoom button or focus peaking. Build quality is 10/10. Honestly very close in mechanical feel to a leica lens, with maybe slightly more resistance in the ring rotations (but buttery smooth). The sharpness at f0.95 is, in my opinion, better than the SELP1650 kit lens at 3.5, and the chromatic aberration is pretty similar. The lens is not perfect for astrophotography, but really good enough unless you are printing to large sizes. The lens is great for low light and portraits (though portraits require a patient subject at f0.95!). The lens is also great for video work, with just the perfect amount of focus throw to be able to go from close to infinity without changing hand position but maximizing precision. Don't be afraid of the lack of brand name - this lens is worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkable ultra fast lens at friendly price The Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 is a sweet heart lens! I am using it on a Sony a6500 and getting fabulous results. The lens is all metal and built quite well. It feels great in the hand and on the camera with smooth mechanical focusing. As an decades long Leica owner, I can say the Speedmaster is remarkably similar to the Leica lens by design. As a full manual lens, it must be noted there is a brief learning curve for focusing such an ultra fast lens. Depth of field wide open is razor sharp. I use the Sony focus peaking (red color) which makes focusing a huge help. You must learn to sense when the peaking is actually at its brightest for perfect focus. The Speedmaster 35mm at f/0.95 provides exquisite center sharpness why remarkable out of focus bokeh. Wide open, your subjects will POP off the background which is what this fast lens is all about. Finally, the cost is very reasonable. Once mastered, this lens will become your go to lens for your special picture targets. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid! The lens is heavy, but small. The aperture is a 9 blade rounded kind, so bokeh is good even when stopped down. There is no electronic linkage to the camera, so there's no EXIF data, which is why I downgraded it from a 5 star to a 4-1/2. Focus is done by eye - assigning a custom button to magnification plus peaking makes that easy. Actually I prefer manual focus over the F/1.4 auto-focus lens bought at the same time that I returned. The lens is sharp wide open, though DOF is so shallow that peaking doesn't always get it exactly perfect. Priced right! Didn't Leica just announce a prototype of something that sounded similar for over 20K? By the way, a friend has the 50mm FF version and loves it too! I would expect more good things coming out of this company!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must Let's be clear, this lens is very compact but fairly heavy. It has very good image quality but personally I'm not maniac about edges sharpness and stuff. It's costly but the value for money is impressive. With practice and camera features, manual focus is not a big deal. Oh and yes .. The bokeh is WOW
