SLR Magic Anamorphot Cine 50mm T2.8 Overview

Known for both its cine-style spherical lenses and anamorphic adapters, SLR Magic has combined the two to create an anamorphic lens. The 50mm 2x Anamorphot-CINE Lens delivers a complete, one piece, anamorphic lens with a maximum aperture of T2.8. The lens provides a 2.35:1 aspect ratio to your image when used with your 16:9 sensor. Suitable for use with cameras with a Four Thirds sensor, the anamorphic lens allows you record an image with a wider aspect ratio than your sensor's native aspect ratio without cropping your image, which maximizes the resolution of your image.

The lens features a 3.5' minimum focus distance and has geared focus and iris rings. It is worth pointing out that the front of the lens rotates as you focus, which may affect your choice of matte box. The 82mm front filter thread allows you to screw in filters, such as diopters to shorten the 3.5' minimum focus distance. Included with the lens is a hard case for storage and transport.

This 50mm lens produces a 2.66:1 aspect ratio on Four Thirds sensors. This allows you to get a greater widescreen effect while maximizing your sensors resolution.
Geared focus and iris rings allow use follow focus unit or lens motor to pull your focus or iris
The 82mm threaded front allows you to mount filters or diopters directly to the front of the lens. Diopters, although not included, can be used to change the focus range of the lens, allowing you to focus closer than the normal close focus of the lens. Please note that using a diopter will also affect the far focus distance.

Great Value for an Introductory Real Anamorphic

Is it equivalent to the 50mm Arri/Zeiss Master Anamorphic ? Probably not. But optically & mechanically, it's a very nice lens. You can easily switch from the native PL mount to an EF mount with a $150 adapter (or go very 1st class with SLR Magic's own Titanium adapter). It offers full-frame coverage. And you can add 82mm close up lenses (diopters) to get much closer than the lens's 3.5' minimum. For Run_n_Gun, leave your Matt Box & rails behind & use an 82mm lens hood. The lens is small and light enough so you can use it hand held. The travel case is a nice touch, too. It's a bit more affordable (and a lot lighter) than the 50mm Arri/Zeiss Master Anamorphic. In fact, it's probably the most affordable way to get a true anamorphic lens. Last, but not least, B & H has been very easy to deal with.

I rented this lens this past weekend for a commercial shoot with my GH5 and was blown away! I had seen some iffy things on the internet about this lens & its optical quality,  but was not disappointed! This thing has great optics, of course, it has its flaws, but I really enjoyed the look of all of them! Honestly, Im not sure I would want something much cleaner when shooting anamorphic! The only reason it doesnt get 5 Stars for me, is the Focus Ring is RIGHT at the end of the lens, which makes it weird when using a matte box! Id love to see a Version 2.0 with a closer focus distance & fixed focus ring!

No, the SLR Magic 50mm 1.33x Anamorphot-CINE Lens (PL Mount) is not compatible with the FUJIFILM GFX cameras since it is designed for smaller sensors.
