Designed for versatility, even in emergencies, this Trident Elite Tanto Point Folding Knife from SOG incorporates a durable, 3.7" straight-edge AUS 8 stainless steel blade that flips out of a 5.2" glass-reinforced nylon handle. The back of the handle features an integrated line cutter slot. This allows the blade to cut though string, cords, or if needed, seatbelts in a safe and controlled manner by utilizing both the handle itself and the blade's folding action. String, cords, or seatbelts inserted into the slot allow for precise placement of the blade edge when it is folded against them, without exposing the blade's point. Built into the front of the handle is a glass breaker in case the path to safety lies through a closed or locked window, while the opening mechanism utilizes a color coded safety button which helps to ensure that the knife remains in the closed position when intended. However, when this folding knife is opened, its SOG Assisted Technology's opposing high-tension coil springs progressively increase the force applied to either of its thumb studs for ambidextrous, easy, and near-instantaneous blade deployment.
The knife features a tanto point design which increases the amount of blade area behind the tip. This results in a tip that is particularly well-suited for piercing and puncturing, plus a secondary point along the blade's edge that is effective for cutting flat objects. The blade has a black, titanium nitride finish that is highly resistant to scratching as well as peeling, and features jimping along its spine which can be used to improve thumb or finger stability for various forward grips. The ergonomic handle is designed to resist impacts and abrasions, plus chemicals such as motor oil, transmission fluid, as well as methanol. Even if subjected to extremes of hot or cold, the handle's material also promotes a comfortable grip and its partial rubber surfacing helps to ensure that this knife remains inside one's grasp. Jimping positioned along the spine of the handle enhances thumb stability and pressing force for both forward, and reverse edge-out grips; and a reversible, low-carry belt clip provides a convenient carrying option.
