Canon 400mm f4 to Sony a7r4a

I recently found myself in the following situation: My best camera body is a Sony a7r4a but my best long lens is a Canon 400mm f4. For obvious reasons, I was interested in mounting the Canon lens on the Sony body. In hopes of doing this, I purchased the Sigma MC-11 Mount Converter based on its price and reviews. Among the questions that seemed to demand answers were: 1. Would the MC-11 permit this lens to be mounted on this body without damaging either? Yes. 2. Is this lens among those that Sigma approves for use with the MC-11 (as indicated either by inclusion on a list of compatible lenses or by a response by the adapter's LED)? No. 3. Was the functionality of the lens preserved when mounted on the Sony body using the MC-11? Here, I am not equipped to run professional-level tests and can only offer my own impressions. The specific issues I tried to address were: a. Did the camera's image-stabilization system continue to operate? Seemingly not. b. Did the lens's image-stabilization system continue to operate? Yes. c. Is Eye Priority autofocus preserved? My test photos of animals and birds (my typical subjects) suggest that it is. To illustrate, consider the attached 2 photos of a catbird (f5.6, 1/250, ISO 800, handheld). The first is uncropped. The second is cropped so as to isolate the eye and surrounding facial area. I think that the eye is in better focus than feathers a short distance away and suggest that this is due to the camera, not me. d. Is the autofocus system able to pick up and track moving subjects? Again, my results suggest that it is. As an example, consider the attached photo of a great blue heron flying overhead (f4, 1/8000, ISO 1600, handheld). I hope that a few of you will find these observations useful.

A quality product.

This is built beautifully. it feels and performs as professionally as your Sony body. If you have canon glass and bought a Sony body you need this.

An ordinary adapter.

I love the Sigma brand for their simplicity. This applies to almost all of the products.

I bought this adapter so that I could use my collection of Canon lenses while I collect Sony G-Master lenses for my new A7R IV. It is amazing and makes my Canon lenses seem almost native to the Sony camera.

It works fine!

Very good quality construction. Works very well with autofocus and exposure for my Canon EF lenses 50mm 1.8 STM and 28mm 1.8 USM. Lightroom recognizes the lenses and applies corrections upon import.

I'm using this with my Sony A7siii along with my canon lenses. Autofocus is not great at all, which I knew it wouldn't be, but I mostly shoot manual focus in video mode so I was pumped just to be able to use all of my canon lenses. They all work!

Works well with Canon lenses

Although it is marked for Sigma EF lens, it works well with Canon 17-40L, 70-200 2.8IIL, 400mm F5.6L and even the Zeiss 50mm/1.4 manual focus lens. The auto focus is reasonably fast and accurate. The only thing I missed is the rubber ring for the better weather sealing. The connection to my Sony A7R III seems tight though.

Is there any magnification when using the MC-11, a Sony A7III (full frame), and a Canon EF 100m f2.8 IS USM L in the macro mode? Thanks!
Asked by: Charles
Nope. And you will need to turn off the IS on the lens otherwise it won't work on the Sony.

Very specific question. If you don’t know, don’t answer “I don’t know”, just don’t respond. Will this work in being able to adjust the aperture of my Zeiss 50mm 1.4 ZE lens when using on the NEW Sony A7rIV camera. I know it will work on the older models but I need to know if there needs to be a firmware update for this adapter for it to work properly on the newest Sony alpha cameras as of December 2019
Asked by: James
YEs if you use the Sigma MC-11 EF to E mount adapter with the Zeiss 50mm F1.4 you will be able to adjust your aperture.

Using an "incompatible" canon 70-200 (old model) on my a7, I hear a scratch kinda noise when the camera is turned on/off or woken up - am I breaking my lens?
Asked by: Tom
Is it a Canon FD or EF lens? Also, it should function properly and all should be fine, so if anything it is more than likely an issue with the lens itself.

Is it safe to assume that lens compatibility refers to the use of auto-focus? Do all manual fixed lenses work? Like Rokinins and such?
Asked by: Eric
Yes, manual fixed lenses will work with this converter, as long as it has an EF mount. I even use a classic Nikon lens with an EF mount adapter and it attaches smoothly to the MC-11.
