Balancing is difficult

Balancing this Glidecam is extremely difficult, I have had this product for a while and think it was made to perform better with heavier cameras. I am using it with an entry-level DSLR which weighs about 3lbs and at this point, I can get better handheld footage than I can with the Glidecam. The build quality is excellent though and I think that with a lot more practice and upon purchasing a higher quality camera, this product will begin to shine. Definitely be ready to pull a bit of your hair out balancing it though.

Best quality for this price!

It goes together easy and with a little practice your clips are just as good as a movi.

I decided to get the less expensive model as this is the firs glidecam I've ever used. The setup was easy. Balancing it can be a bit fickle to get it "just right", but it's worth the time and there are many YouTube videos that are helpful. Other than that funny looking "crouched walk" I'm now doing to get the footage (kidding), all good. If you're looking for a beginner glidecam, I recommend this one.

It has a steep learning curve but worth it. Really smooth video. End results is totally professional.

Heavy, but works

Using this with a Canon 5D Mark III. It requires some arm strength, but, with a little practice, it provides smooth enough video clips. It would likely do a much better job with a camera that has good internal video stabilization.

question

Can some tell me the difference between the xr-pro and the hd2000? Using a canon 80d 18-135mm .. thanks
Asked by: Omar S.
The principal difference between the two is the payload capacity. The XR-PRO can carry 10 lbs and the HD2000 can do 2-6 lbs. Your Canon 80D with a 18-135mm lens is well within the capability of the HD2000.

Are you suppose to have image stabilization in the camera turned on when using the Glidecam?
Asked by: Greg
There is no right or wrong answer here. However, if you notice any unwanted shaking, then it may be advantages to turn on the camera's stabilization. Depending on the camera's method of stabilization, it may crop the sensor slightly. That is something to consider before deciding.

Does this work with very light mirrorless cameras like the Sony a7riii with standard zoom lens?
Asked by: Sarah
Yes, this has weights for the top and bottom to counterbalance the different sizes of cameras that may be used. See this video if you are concerned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=819wmf6-FJY&t=2s

Will this work with a Canon XA30 and a 7” monitor?
Asked by: Rich
Yes, it falls within the payload (weight) limits. There's a mounting hole on the bottom of the Glidecam for a video monitor. I would guess it will be a little more complex to balance with a video monitor at the bottom, but it should work. It takes practice to get everything balanced and to use the steadicam, I'm still learning.

I have a Sony A7C and Sony 20mm f1.8 & 24-105 f4. How difficult is it to rebalance in the field when switching between lenses with a significant weight difference?

Using a stabilizer like the Glidecam XR-PRO Handheld Camera Stabilizer is a skill that is acquired from diligent practice. As you learn, the felicity to adjust balance becomes second nature and is an expected part of the process. In the end you get beautiful, organic moves.
