    Sony NW-E395 reviews

16GB NW-E395 Series Walkman Digital Music Player (Red) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from updated classic This is the 6th of this series I have owned. For a while the updates lowered the usability of the unit so much that I switched to the Scandisk clip sport. The Sony has superior build quality and sound, longer battery life, a much better screen, and a thinner profile. This latest model NW.E395 brings back the dedicated hold switch so it does NOT go into hold automatically as the older ones did, forcing you every time you wanted to change value or songs to sit with your hand depressing its buttons for a long time waiting for it to un-hold. It also maintains the settings on hold and shut off including volume, and it does NOT beep at you and refuse to operate if you play the music at the volume you want. The dedicated volume buttons are also a big plus brought back from the past. They got rid of a lot of functions nobody used like film player, and 16 Gbytes is more than adequate. It's a solid unit, previous ones have lasted me years of daily bike commuting. I'm very pleased they stripped off some of the recent poor innovations and built the best unit ever of this series.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A bit expensive considering you can't add any more memory This is replacing my Sony NWZ-E354 which I've had for a few years. Hold button no longer works and battery not holding charge anymore. The NW-E395 is not as heavy and doesn't feel as sturdy as the one it is replacing. It doesn't have a Podcast folder. So I have to put a podcast folder in Music and make a playlist for the podcasts in it. It doesn't respond as quickly as old one when making a selection. But over all it works well and sounds good. Not using the ear buds that came with it. They just don't plug up the ear canal enough. A bit expensive considering you can't add any more memory

Rated 1 out of 5 by from useless due to defective battery (i wasn't going to give it any stars but it wouldn't let me enter the comment without selecting one, but my choice is really zero stars) until i get my replacement from Sony, I downloaded some songs (about two cd's worth) and plugged it into my aux jack for my motorcycle speakers and before the second song starts to play the battery is dead after a full charge, sending it back for a replacement to Sony, I'll have to wait and see how the replacement works, but I hope for a supposed battery life of 35 hrs ? on this one I just sent back wouldn't last for squat ? Very Disappointed :((

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Came With Bad USB Cable Received my NW-E395 today. Replacing a NWZ-E344 that is 6 years old and the battery won't charge anymore. I unpacked everything and following the directions, plugged the E395 into my laptop to charge the battery using the USB cable provided. After apx 30-45 seconds I noticed the battery icon in the upper right corner of the screen had been replace by a red thermometer icon. I picked up the unit and it was blistering hot! I unplugged it to let it cool. After 10 minutes or so I plugged it back in and the same problem repeated. I called SONY customer support and they said they had no reference in their trouble shooting files relating to a thermometer icon appearing during overheating. They suggested I return it to the company I purchased it from for replacement. The NWZ-E344 cable had the wrong mini connector so I couldn't use it. I retrieved another USB cable with the micro connector that I use for a LG tablet and tried it. Everything went fine. The NW-E395 charged fully without ever overheating. I tossed the USB cable that came with the Walkman. The unit works exactly like I expected, and very similar to the older unit I've been using. I like this style MP3 player.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Missing fast forward and rewind features Purchases to listen to books on digital media. We have found the product lacking in an important functionality that used to exist in most products like this, the all important fast forward and rewind features. This product is missing these capabilities. Very disappointing when pressing the forward and back keys, the beginning of the next or previous chapter is the starting point. We are researching other products that have these common features and using this product for other tasks yet to be determined. This product did not meet our expectations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice light hardware - poor software I have a 10-year old Walkman that still works. Nice for simple music and talking books. However, loading software was always a pain. So I got this new one, with more memory and a better battery, assuming the software would be more modern - Windows 10 is what I am not running. Anyways, the provided software was surprisingly poor, very slow, essentially did not work. However, when I used 'File Explorer', I could open the Walkman and transfer files like a USB drive. Worked just fine. I like it because it also has a built in FM radio, making it a very nice accessory for walking in the neighborhood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sony 16gb Digital Walkman - NW-E395 I choose not to use my phone for anything other than a phone, so, I don't store music on my phone - as a lot of people currently do. As a result, I need to have a portable music storage device that I can use in my car, when I'm sailing, working outdoors or on an airplane. This Sony Walkman is excellent in all respects. If there were more rating stars available I would give this digital Walkman an 8, and an 8 also to B&H for their great service / pricing. I bought this to replace an earlier Sony model I had been using that became damaged beyond repair. It is far better in all respects than my last digital Walkman. Smaller, but with the same operating features only better. This one has a built-in FM radio, and a customizable equalization function that is super and easy to use. Great battery life and so far I've stored over 120 complete CD's on this thing and haven't used up even half of the 16gb storage capacity. Really like the standard volume control buttons, on-off button, and non-touch screen operation. I'm considering buying another one as a back-up just in case something happens to this one or if Sony decides not to make this any more. I had an I-pod once. What a piece of junk compared to this Sony. Thanks B&H for having this in stock and for your quick service.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ALWAYS turns back on and then I have no battery! This Sony was purchased to replace my Apple shuffle. It constantly turns back on with the slightest bump in my w/o bag: leaving me w/ no battery. The sound is sub-par to apple (No I'm not brand loyal - I actually was wanting to move away from A.) I would NOT buy it again .... "un-happy" face.
