Kodak SP360 4K Reviews

Great camera/price/quality/software.

I originally ordered a different camera that came defective and then I had to order this Kodak Pack. At the beginning I was skeptical about the product b/c of some reviews, but after using the camera(s) for a few events I noticed the reviews were somehow wrong or perhaps made by someone without video/photo experience. I don't know why so many complains about the software b/c it's really EASY to use (as long as you have minimum computer knowledge). The remote control works flawless and the image quality is way better than the previous model I had. Yes, I'm also using my Mac computer and Final Cut Pro to edit the videos for final production and the quality is even better after compilation, but the software that comes with this camera is also very good by itself! One thing I must point out: this camera can't take videos longer than 35minutes b/c the battery will get super hot and the camera will power off automatically. So, I had to adapt a USB portable fan to the tripod and now it can take videos for about 55 minutes. Also, make sure to order some 64GB or 128GB class 10 memory cards b/c each camera is a killer! It will generate insane amount of data when set to record in 4K. On the same token, you will need a decent HD to save all your videos and a powerful hardware spec on your PC to run the software flawless. If you are planing to use an old PC or Mac computer, think twice before purchasing. Anyways, for this price I got two cameras with very good overall quality and I'm definitely satisfied. This is a great product from Kodak. By with confidence from BHPhoto! These guys rock!!!

SP360 4K is an absolute wast of time, space and money!

I would give it Zero stars if possible! Compared to the Ricoh ThetaS or even the finally released Nikon KM360, this thing is a wast of time, money and space. First, lenses are so far apart. Second, difficult to sync the two. These are two separate camera bodies. Third, You have to sync and stitch those separate camera files YOURSELF in post. 'Nouf said!

Wait for the new version to come out in JAN

This camera is not ready for consumers who are not techies. Very hard to use the stitching software and requires a very beefy computer to do the rendering. I will wait for the new one to come out it Jan. Hopefully they have fixed the problems.

Good one!

Inexpensive entry into 360

This camera takes great 360 video and time lapse that you can manipulate in many way. For the price, it's a great camera. Unfortunately the iOS, Mac and Windows software that is included is barely functional, clunky, and counterintuitive. They also don't provide any manual to help you figure out the software. If you are currently recording, instead of disabling the live view on your phone, the camera tries and fails to display the live video while capturing. If the camera is recording, remote control from the app is barely functional, and I can't seem to purchase their dedicated remote control anywhere. Don't try to download large videos over wi-fi, it will crash the camera. If the camera is set to 4K and your phone only supports 1080p, you won't be able to download any files anyway. The desktop app has little to no menus, and it took me hours to figure out that you click on disk to browse for videos outside the default folder. Once you unwrap your spherical video, the app forces you to play it out at 1:1 to record the new view, and then play it out at 1:1 again to write that temp file to a new video file. It's incredibly slow and tedious. In summary, good camera, terrible software.

Easy to use, Great results for the price

I purchased this model after viewing a few online reviews of several models in this price range. The camera is simple to use as is the stitching software. Achieving perfect stitching results is challenging in some cases, but overall, the app does a great job on its own. The camera is lightweight and well built. I wish that there was a waterproof housing for the dual camera configuration. My only real complaint about the design of the camera is that the battery and memory card are accessed from the bottom of the unit, the same place that it attaches to the selfie stick which means that you need to disassemble the rig in order to download the photos and videos.

Not perfect, but great results for a planetarium,

I am buying my second pair. I do not use it for 360x360 but for hemispherical video. The video quality is in excess of what our 2.5 K planetarium can display. Color is rich and it is easy to operate. Downsides, not great in low light and has a limited dynamic range - bright sun and shadows do not work well together. the biggest problem is losing the files when I eject it from my Mac - yielding a format drive option. The solution is to take the memory card out of the camera in order to transfer files. The biggest problem is editing - FCP and Premiere are useless. Youtube also downgrades the video quality for streaming - see the Washington National Cathedral and Antarctica and Kepler vs. Tycho at my youtube channel. So, what is a good editor which allows for output that Youtube will accept as FCP and Premiere cannot do this?

Video Quality is too far from 4K

You have to assemble the system using coin as a tool every time you want to make video. After that you have to disassemble in order to reach cameras USB ports (stupid design). The quality of video is not 4K, it is much much worse than 720P. The stiching process is very difficult and even Kodak shows a pretty bad quality of stiching in the demonstartion clip.

question

How are the cameras synced together? Does the wifi app control both cameras simultaneously or do I have to manually press record on each one?
Asked by: Anonymous
Wrong. The mobile app do not sync two cameras as the phone can only connect one WiFi hotspot. Only the remote controller can trigger two cameras in sync.
