Designed with SMB customers in mind, the 6TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD from WD is well-suited for medium to large-scale NAS environments with up to sixteen 3.5" drive bays. Engineered to handle increased workloads, this 6TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 128MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, which all help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a sustained rate of up to 226 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 600,000 load/unload cycles, <10 in 1015 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, dual-plane balance control technology, and 1,000,000 hours MTBF for 8-16 bay NAS systems. Shock protection is provided by a multi-axis shock sensor and WD's NASware 3.0 helps increase system compatibility, allowing Red Pro drives to be more easily integrated with your existing network infrastructure.

NAS for Big Business
Increase the efficiency and productivity of your business with WD Red Pro hard drives for up to 16-bay NAS systems. The WD Red Pro comes equipped with NASware 3.0, which increases system compatibility allowing for integration with your existing network infrastructure. Add value to your business by enabling your employees to quickly share their files and back up folders reliably with WD Red Pro NAS hard drives in your NAS solution
NASware 3.0 Technology
WD's advanced firmware technology, NASware 3.0, enables integration, robust data protection, and improved performance for NAS systems operating under heavy demand
Built for NAS Compatibility
Desktop drives aren't purpose-built for NAS, but WD Red Pro drives with NASware are. WD's technology helps takes the guesswork out of selecting a drive and balances performance and reliability in NAS and RAID environments. Simply put, WD Red Pro is compatible with medium to large NAS enclosures
Larger NAS Bay Shock Protection
WD Red Pro is equipped with a multi-axis shock sensor that automatically detects subtle shock events and dynamic fly height technology which adjusts each read-write function to compensate and protect the data. This combination of technology further protects the drives in larger 1 to 16 bay NAS environments and helps increase hard drive reliability
3D Active Balance Plus
WD's enhanced dual-plane balance control technology helps improve the overall drive performance and reliability. Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in a multi-drive system, reduce the hard drive life span, and degrade the performance over time
Error Recovery Prevention
Built specifically for RAID and NAS environments, WD Red Pro drives come equipped with error recovery controls as part of NASware 3.0, which prevents the drive from fallout in RAID applications.
Extended Drive Testing
A NAS environment that has up to 16 bays is very demanding on a hard drive with added vibration, heat, and other factors. This is why every WD Red Pro drive is shipped with extended thermal cycle burn-in testing which helps certify each drive for extended reliable operation

6TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Need a ton of storage, also need to expand in the future... I recently added a WD Red 6TB to my Drobo 5N. I'm now replacing the old 3TB Green drives with these new Red Drives. They seem to work very well. Now that Drobo has increased the firmware to support up to 55.8 TB on a Drobo 5N this makes a terrific setup for photographers who need tons of space. When a drive goes bad and begins flashing < amber> just eject the old drive and slide in a new red drive and the Drobo will automatically rebuild itself. It just couldn't be any easier than that. Maybe this is also a review for Drobo as well as Western Digital. :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast but a bit noisy These drives replaces the 4TB Seagate Red NAS drives I was using previously. The RAID array now has significantly faster read times and better video streaming as the read access time on these drives is better. That said, they are somewhat noisier than the Seagate drives, I can easily hear disk seeks from 3 feet away. The Seagate drives were pretty much silent. Write times using these drives appear to be longer (about 20 Mb/s slower) than the Seagate drives, but the faster reads make up for that in daily use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I purchased 4 of these drives to install in an OWC Thunderbay raid tower. I currently have my raid set up as 1+0. I purchased these drives approximately a year ago and have had monitoring software constantly checking the health of the drives. So far, so good. They may not be quite as fast as solid state but these 7200rpm drives are fast enough for my needs. I'm mostly using them to archive files so they're perfect for that. They are a bit noisy, but that's to be expected since they're industrial grade NAS drives designed to be used in a server room. I have the 4 drives sitting on my desk, while they are a bit noisy, the sound isn't unbearable. The sound of them spinning is just a bit of piece of mind.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best enterprise SATA drive among any class I have been a IT professional for 2 decades, so I have used many drives from various manufacturers. Western Digital Red Pro drives are the most reliable with the highest MTBF among all the drives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from yes I would buy it again Amazing for VIDEOS & PHOTOS Storage although you need 2 of them in case of a failure (BACK IT UP) for everything's in the universe fails. Its large storage could go a long away and it is a USB 3 for faster transfer. The transfer rate it depends on the compression of the VIDEOS. The higher the compression the slower the transfer rate. I note that it goes down to 78 MB/s then it stays. although the higher was 150 MB/s

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 6TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III NAS HDD I used these drives to upgrade my Synology NAS and it went without any problems. The drives are working as expected and are relatively quiet. I looked at all the specials on all the other drives and decided that the reputation of WD drives was worth the extra money. I have used WD drives for years and have excellent experience with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast, High-Capacity Drives with Good Support Using 16 of these in QNAP Thunderbolt NAS enclosures and they are proving to be fast, consistent and affordable drives. I had one failure shortly after installing the first set of 8. Western Digital has an excellent warranty return system in place, and I received a backup drive in just a couple of days.
