Styled in a black textured finish, the Ovation 1778TX Elite TX Series Mid-Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar features a mid-depth Lyrachord bowl, an AA grade solid spruce top, and scalloped "X" bracing. If projection on a stage is your primary goal, then this acoustic/electric guitar is more than up for the job: the body and resonant spruce top allow for clear articulation, while the bass-side soundholes facilitate a strong low end. Furthermore, its slim hard-rock maple neck—replete with a stained-rosewood fingerboard—is shaped to offer the fast feel of an electric guitar, and also lends the instrument a kind of sustain more typical of an electric guitar.

Turn your attention to this guitar's OP-Pro preamp system and you'll notice it sports a three-band EQ, a volume control, a preset tone enhancement circuit, a low battery indicator, and an on-board tuner to boot. An OCP-1K pickup complements the preamp by providing a balanced tone, allowing you to achieve an accurate representation of this Ovation's inherent acoustic sound.

1778TX Elite TX Series Mid-Depth Acoustic/Electric Guitar (Black) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best guitar I've ever owned but needs two small fixes. This is an awesome guitar but it needs a couple of minor tweaks. First off, the design and manufacturing of this instrument is outstanding. Look at this guitar head-on and resolve it to lines, it is a graphic masterpiece which I don't think could be improved in any way. Compare it to any other acoustic guitar and I think on any visual design scale it is at or near the top. Completely awesome. Next is the construction. Pretty much flawless. The neck feels and plays incredibly smooth, great string action, very good electronics, interesting take on the sound holes (their area adds up to the same as that of a standard large hole). Top is AA spruce even though it looks like plastic. The sound is wonderful although at first I thought it sounded a little too metallic. However, when amplified, if you increase the base range on the guitar's equalizer just a little bit, it hits a beautiful sweet spot which I love. That's just me. Here's my only beef with this guitar. The Ovation design achieves such large and beautiful sound due to a great extend by rounding the back of the guitar. A good effect of rounding is that the body never cuts into you chest. A bad effect is that it constantly wants to slip down and/or rotate. It drives me crazy. Additionally, when you attach a strap, because the body is so light, the balance is completely wrong and it's very inconvenient to play. Fortunately, there are fixes for both these problems. If you only attach your strap to the bottom peg and instead tie it to the neck above the nut it completely solves the imbalance problem. Wearing the strap while sitting will stop the guitar from sliding down if that's a problem.Additionally, putting a small towel between your chest and the top of the guitar in back will stop it from rotating. I know it's not cool but it's better than going screaming into the night. Summary: awesome guitar, needs a couple of small fixes (that's why only four stars).
