The CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 2 can be integrated as part of a powerful 4K workflow. This includes connecting professional 4K devices for a complete setup. The dual Thunderbolt 2 ports allow you to daisy chain up to six Thunderbolt devices. Thunderbolt 2 takes the dual 10 Gb/s bi-directional channels of the original Thunderbolt interface and combines them into one 20 Gb/s bi-directional channel. You can also connect a 4K monitor via the HDMI port.

There are other ports to meet your needs as well, such as USB 3.0 Type-A, eSATA, and a Gigabit Ethernet jack for a wired 10/100/1000 Mb/s Internet connection. There's also a 3.5mm microphone-in and a 3.5mm headphone-out jack. Additionally, the aluminum chassis helps dissipate heat.

Features

Supports transferring and displaying 4K video via Thunderbolt 2 and HDMI 1.4b
The front USB 3.0 Type-A port features standalone charging, which allows you to charge devices even when it is not connected to a computer
The versatile design allows you to use the Thunderbolt Station 2 in either a vertical or horizontal position
Some computers don't have an Ethernet port, but the Thunderbolt Station 2 allows you to still enjoy a wired 10/100/1000 Mb/s Internet connection, thanks to its Gigabit Ethernet port
Connecting audio devices to the Thunderbolt Station 2 brings the convenience of plugging in microphones, and headphones without the need of having those devices connected to a computer
The Thunderbolt Station 2 is built from 100% aluminum that helps dissipate heat and the titanium Gray finish compliments the Mac Pro design

Thunderbolt Station 2 is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from This has pretty specific use cases Bought this for a 17 Late 2011 MacBook Pro, specifically to use with dual displays (one DisplayPort, one HDMI). It turns out there's a limitation of the Thunderbolt protocol and I could only do either/or, but not both simultaneously. The only way it supports dual displays is if one of the monitors is a true Thunderbolt monitor (not just DisplayPort). I ended up returning this dock, though, because in attempt to remedy the dual screen situation, I bought a USB DisplayLink adapter, and whenever I plugged it into the dock, the screen would completely freeze. But if I plugged it directly into the computer, it worked just fine. There may be nothing wrong with the dock at all, but for me, it didn't serve the purpose that I bought it for, so I ended up returning it. The dock does feel very solid with good quality construction, though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional product How some doubts buying, but was utter simplicity to get working. Small, well built, can use vertically or horizontally. Using on older 2011 MBPs running Sierra with Thunderbolt 1 but only USB 2. Just plug in and away you go. However, do download the free CalDigit utility to monitor any connected drives and use it to eject any drives or partitions. Ejecting w/o using the utility (which sits on Mac top bar) can sometimes can an issue. It's small size also allows us to use it on location to tether via USB 3 for faster image transfer and onsite backups.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well, but Ethernet port is a little finicky When I first connected it to my MacBook Pro, my external monitor (connected via a Thunderbolt Display Port cable) and external hard drive (connected to one of the USB ports) sprang to life right away. The Ethernet port would not connect to my home network, however (no status lights lit up on the CalDigit's Ethernet port). I tried searching around for firmware upgrades to the CalDigit as well as for my MacBook for hours, to no avail. Nothing worked. When I connected my MacBook Pro via an Apple Thunderbolt-Ethernet adapter using the same Ethernet cable, everything worked fine, so I was sure there was some issue with the CalDigit box. I was ready to return the CalDigit, when I decided to try connecting via a different Cat 5e cable. The new cable worked. If I put the old cable back, it would stop working. I'm not sure what would be causing the Apple Thunderbolt-Ethernet adapter to work with a certain cable, and that same cable to not work with the CalDigit (both cables were Cat5e). I'm guessing one of the twisted-wire pairs must not have been making a good connection, and the CalDigit seemed to struggle with that compared to the Apple adapter. Oh well. It works fine now. Just thought I'd mention that in the odd chance that others had the same issue. No knocks against the CalDigit - it works just fine with a properly terminated Ethernet cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST HAVE!!! If you have a MacBook Pro and are using it for professional means, this CalDigit Thunderbolt Station is a MUST HAVE. So many ports. Stays cool. Has made my life easier. I am running so much stuff off it. Two monitors, two drives, a USB dock for peripherals and more. 5-Stars!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, perfect size, stays cools and doesn't fail! I finally found the thunderbolt dock that just WORKS. I use it for what I assume most people need it: to have my peripherals connected to it so that when I need to take the laptop with me I only have to unplug one cable (plus the power cord). It works terrific, has never once failed me (in three months, contrary to other brands, like the highly rated OWC, which started failing after only a couple of days...even after replacing it), it stays cool (again, unlike others), and it's a great size that can be set up horizontally or vertically (once again, unlike most others). I always have plugged into it: an external monitor (displayport), an external hard drive (USB), a professional flatbed scanner (USB), external speakers (audio out), and the laptop itself (Thunderbolt), of course. I'm also always charging my iPhone through the front USB port. (this was a specific problem with the OWC model) I also make other connections to it sporadically, such as wired internet or another USB device. I wish it had a Firewire 800 port, which is why I tried others before this one, but I made do with the USB ports and my next hard drive will probably be esata anyway. Overall highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works like a charm This dock has worked flawlessly for me. It is small enough to be portable, I use it with a MBP for on set footage transfers and the fact that the front USB can act as a charger when not connected to a computer is very helpful. The only thing is that if it has been running for a while it makes a bit of noise as it is cooling down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is the second time I have purchased this dock. It does exactly what I need it to do. I have this dock connected to a Mac Mini via the Thunderbolt port. It's attached to an eSATA RAID and three USB 3.0 hard drives. It's fast and reliable. You will need to purchase a Thunderbolt cable since it's not included with the dock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works fine for connecting peripherals I have two scanners and two hard drives connected to an iMac (I've also connected it to a MacBook Pro) via the CalDigit and it has worked fine. The only weakness is not a problem with the CalDigit but with the iMac connection. If I move the iMac even a little bit, any Thunderbolt cord is easily disconnected. I wish Apple made the Thunderbolt port in a way that held the cords more securely.
