Perhaps you’re a guitar player making use of the JX44 or JX42 signal distribution systems, but would like to integrate MIDI-switching with your existing rig. If that’s the case, the Radial MR5 will facilitate these needs. It’s a signal translator equipped with three 5-pin DIN jacks—one for MIDI input, another for MIDI output, and a third MIDI through. Through these ports, the unit can send/distribute control changes and program changes from your MIDI switcher.

Direct your attention to the two XLR connections—one dedicated for amplifiers, the other for guitars—and you’ll find the means by which you’ll route MIDI-controllable signal to your JX44, JX422, or other Radial product with JR5 inputs. First, run a MIDI cable into the unit’s input. Next, run a standard XLR cable from its XLR output into a JR5-enabled product. Now, you’ll be able to control said product with your MIDI switcher. You’ll also be able to: dictate which MIDI channel the MR5 responds to with DIP switches along the side; run the MR5 in omni mode; and dictate whether the MR5 will put forth Control Changes, Program Changes, or both.

If you’d like to use a JR5 foot controller and your MIDI controller at the same time, this is also possible using the MR5. Simply connect one of the JR5’s XLR connections to the MR4 and the other to the JR5 input of your compatible Radial device. Now, your compatible Radial device should receive commands from both the J45 and your MIDI controller.

The MR5 uses 14-gauge steel in its construction, which contributes to its reliability as does the unit’s military-spec circuit board, which helps secure a noise-free operation. The MR5 does not require power to run and provides a host of handy features such as an antislip pad, a save/reset button for recalling MIDI configurations, and that aforementioned MIDI thru port, which allows you to daisy-chain MIDI signal to downstream destinations, further expanding the functionality of the unit.
