LEE Filters Super Stopper Reviews

Works Great!

It's great for long exposers and also removing people from a scene. No need to use Photoshop clone people out of shots. It does give you a blue tint in the photo, but easily removed in Lightroom with just one click.

The entire stopper line is great and so is the app

If you’ve used other Lee stoppers you know what to expect with this one. If not, it’s a high quality piece of glass with foam around the edges to make sure light doesn’t leak in. The superstopper allows for some pretty ridiculous max open shutter time. To get an idea I’d recommend getting the Lee Stopper App which has this stopper extending time from 4s to 11 days. The app has all three stoppers calculates in so you can figure out which one to buy. As for a blue tint, I have yet to see discolouration and have some suspicion that it happens when you use an auto white balance or is maybe camera specific. But if it does happen shoot raw and the correction takes a split second.

Works as it should

I bought this mostly to photograph the sun and upcoming eclipse using a contraption I made to fit over my Tamron 150-600 mm lens. I got excellent results at f/8, 1/40 sec, ISO 100 and the sun appeared as a light orange globe showing two sunspots. I later tried it to smooth the water in a seascape and it does a remarkable job.

Significant Blue Cast (Easy to Remove)

This does it's job as expected. The filter is very well made, and I haven't found that it negatively impacts lens sharpness at all. The filter is glass, and the foam border on the back noticeably reduces the changes of light leaks. As one may expect from a filter of this density, there is a significant color cast. It's blue hue can be appealing in some scenes. Either way, it is easy to remove in photoshop. My advice would be to take a reference photo without the filter to aid in post-production.

This filter is great, I have the Big Stopper but have been only using the Super Stopper since I got it. Stay away from the Variable ND Filters and stick to the Lee Filters if possible. I am super impressed.

It's made by Lee - what's left to say?

I have not had the chance to use this yet - waiting for spring to arrive. But I do own and have used the Lee Big stopper. It is a fabulous filter, does what it's designed to do and does not impart any colour cast. The people that do get a hint of that may be setting the wrong WB in-camera. Lee filters are top of the line. One can't go wrong investing in them.

Does anyone have a comparison on the Super Stopper compared to Lee's ProGlass 15 stop filter? Almost twice the price, is it worth it?
Asked by: Jim
The LEE Filters 100 x 100mm ProGlass IRND 4.5 Filter (15-Stop) B&H # LEPGIRN15100 is more expensive because it combines two filters in one. Not only the ND but it also has an IR filter as well. Because digital sensor are susceptible to the infrared that get through the ND, this helps to keep your blacks from going to a very-hard-to-correct magenta color shift.
