FiiO A1 Overview

  • 1Description

The silver A1 from FiiO is a portable headphone amplifier with volume control, hi-fidelity output, and four EQ modes providing maximum flexibility. It can be used for smartphones, computers, tablets, iPods, and MP3 players to increase volume and deliver a more satisfying experience when listening to audio.

Featuring a sandblasted aluminum-alloy chassis, the portable amp uses a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery for power and weighs only 0.7 ounces. The four different EQ modes are switchable by briefly pressing the power button. A blue LED flashes to indicate each mode as it is selected.

Furthermore, there is a 3-color status LED to help you monitor the power condition of the unit, which flash differently for power on, charging, low battery, and full battery status. Finally, the tiny size of the A1 portable headphone amplifier makes this a great choice for adding that extra punch to your audio listening experience.

Durable Design
The A1 utilizes a sandblasted aluminum-alloy chassis for a durable, modern appearance and comfortable handholding. A transparent removable back clip adapts the A1 to different usage scenarios
With higher-fidelity output than smartphones, the A1 satisfies your need for more sound quality and quantity

The A1's volume buttons are made of Alps microswitches for sensitive and reliable operation
Four EQ Modes
The A1 provides Flat, Bass1, Bass2, and Bass3 EQ modes, switchable simply by briefly pressing the power button, allowing you to adapt the sound output to your earphones. The indicator light clearly indicates the present EQ mode

    FiiO A1 Reviews

A1 Portable Headphone Amp (Silver) is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing My first iPod was the 4 Gb Mini, bought whenever that came out many years ago. It had the Wolfsen sound chip - same as in the larger iPods - and excellent sound. My next iPod was a Nano 8 Gb (the tiny, square one that clips onto a shirt pocket, not the oval tubular model - it is actually about the same size as the FiiO amp); it is used primarily for travel and takes up nearly zero space, but the sound is not as rich and warm as the Mini sound. Last year, I bought the excellent FiiO earbuds and have been very happy with them, so when I saw that they had a tiny amp, it seemed like a perfect solution: tiny, inexpensive and from a manufacturer that I like. Unfortunately, the amp was of no help whatsoever; it actually sounds like a filter, detracting from the sound instead of improving it. The batter was fully charged and I tried the three different Bass settings, to no avail. So I returned it - and BH Photo handled that very well. I don't know why I got the result that i did. The product appears well-made and is nicely packaged, with a spare clip and a non-clip, but it just didn't do the job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A compact/versatile way to improve sound of headphones I use this with some over ear headphones that don't play loud enough through a bluetooth connection. This fixes the problem at the cost of having a tether between me and my phone or portable media streamer. It has made a big difference though. Especially with my Velodyne vFree 'phones, nicely highlighting their balanced sound. This thing is compact and despite adding some complication to the setup, worth the tradeoff. The only significant issue is the battery life is shortish, though it does recharge fairly quickly and can be used while charging.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for only certain uses I bought this amp for use with my recently purchased HD8 DJ headphones thinking it would make a difference when plugged into my phone. It didnt, if anything the sound became slightly more bassy and more muddy when compared to sound right out of my S8+, which is more than powerful for my Sennheisers (95 ohm impedance) . That being said, my XPS 13 cannot drive the headphones at all and for that use, it works great as a cheap amplifier. I would only recommend these if you have high impedance headphones coming from a source that cannot drive them whatsoever and you just need a cheap way to drive them. Otherwise, stick with your on board amp or buy something higher quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needed some more decibles once I found out something like this was available, that is headphone amps I started doing some research on them. Seen some in the $$$.00 price range and not knowing what they would actually do got a little apprehensive about them until I run? across Fiio. Price was right and what I read about them I said why not. All I wanted to do was boost the sound up from my tv when using my headphones. This little guy does what it said it would do, in fact more than I need sound wise. Be forewarned the control buttons are small but they do work. Out side that would recommend it if price is what your looking for and? this is the first time your venturing out in the kind electronic helper aid.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More of an EQ than an amp I got this to boost the audio on my LG G3. I have CyanogenMod running on it with the audio equalizer on it but it frequently crashes so I figured I could equalize my sound with this and also boost the volume. It's a nice quality unit but it doesn't add that much more volume- it's only a very incremental increase in volume- with ear buds and over-the-ear headphones. Don't get this if you need a lot more volume, especially if you're using headphones. Here's what's making me keep it: 1) My LG G3 has problems recognizing some line out cables for speaker systems. This amp gets recognized by my phone every single time so I can always get sound anywhere I want. 2) The EQ options add just enough oomph to make it worthwhile to use it with my phone. It's not that much but just enough. I ended up purchasing a 3.5mm male-to-male adapter (RuiLing) on Amazon to reduce cabling clutter. You can see it in the pictures. Using the included 3.5mm cable from phone to the amp and then the headphone jack coming into the amp make too much of a mess for me, especially when on the go. One slight problem with my phone is that if I move the cable around at the phone jack, it will start triggering the mic commands and play/pause/skip tracks with accidental nudges- this only happens with line-out cables that don't have a mic. This is a problem with my phone and not with the unit so if your phone does this and you're considering this for on-the-go use, this may not be the best option.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FiiO amp A1 The amp seems to work very well to amplify my headphones. The volume is louder but the best part is that it seems to add a depth to the music that was not there previously. The only problem seems to be that the battery life is not as long as advertised

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Add on device for your Headphones. This little amp does a lot for its size and enhances the sound of your headphones. Even a cheap pair sound a better with this in line with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is on fleek !!!!!!! I sa people on here say it doesn't get much louder, but as someone who likes kind of loud music I find that I have to turn it down often. This thing will blow headphone speakers so get a good pair. The coolest thing about this is that you can put an aux plug in the headphone plug and connect it to your car radio and it will crank up your car speakers as well!!!!!!!! Great price for an awesome product!!!!!!! John 3:16
