Lenovo X1 Yoga overview

  • 1Description

The 14" ThinkPad X1 Yoga Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Laptop from Lenovo is a system whose screen can rotate up to 360° to vary between laptop, tent, stand, and tablet mode. That means you can select a specific mode based on what you need to do and combine it with the keyboard, TouchPad Pen Pro, and/or the 10-point multi-touch screen to help maximize your productivity.

The X1 Yoga is powered by a 6th-generation (Skylake) 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5-6200U processor and 8GB of 1866 MHz LPDDR3 SDRAM, which allow you to run multiple applications simultaneously. Powered by an integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 processor, the 14" multi-touch IPS display supports touch functionality and features a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. You'll also be able to output video to an external display using the Mini DisplayPort or HDMI port.

For long term storage of your files, the X1 Yoga has a 256GB SSD. While the SSD may not have as high a capacity as a traditional hard drive, it contains no moving parts and offers faster data transfer speeds. Additionally, because it has no moving parts, it is more resistant to damage from bumps and drops and does not have any read or write heads that wear down the drive during operation. To add more storage capacity, you can insert your microSD card into the built-in card reader.

If you want to add external peripherals, the X1 Yoga offers three USB 3.0 ports. Network connectivity is achieved using 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1 technology allows you to connect additional compatible peripherals. Other integrated features include a 720p webcam, dual array microphones, two stereo speakers, a fingerprint reader, and a backlit keyboard.

The X1 Yoga is powered using the included 65W AC adapter and a 4-cell/52Wh lithium-ion polymer battery, which will last for up to 10 hours before recharging is required. Also included is a ThinkPad Pen Pro, which has 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity. The pen features onboard charging and provides you with a precise content-creation experience. The installed operating system is Windows 10 Pro (64-bit).

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Features

Four Modes, One Device
Easily change between four modes – laptop, stand, tablet, and tent – based on what you want to do, and your system automatically switches system settings to match.
Backlit Multimode Keyboard
When your Yoga switches between modes, the keyboard frame automatically rises and the keys lock, eliminating accidental keystrokes and providing a more comfortable grip.
Full-HD IPS Screen
IPS technology allows for vivid colors and nearly 180-degree viewing angles.
Security Features
You can rest assured knowing your data and hardware are safe, thanks to features such as TPM encryption, a fingerprint reader, and a Kensington lock.

Windows 10 Professional

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Laptop, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.
Windows 10 Pro
The Pro version of Windows 10 includes all of the features of Windows 10 Home plus many designed specifically for businesses users, including Hyper-V virtualization, BitLocker disk encryption, and remote desktop access. Devices will also be able to join domains and the Azure Active Directory, and they can even access a specialized version of the Windows Store featuring custom, company-specific applications.

    Lenovo X1 Yoga reviews

    14" ThinkPad X1 Yoga Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Notebook is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Ultraportable All-In-One I purchased this computer for use during dental school. I needed a HIPAA compliant computer (Windows Pro with Encryption) and wanted something that was both light weight and had ability to wright via stylus. So far, I do not have a single complaint for this computer. The keyboard is a dream to type on, even with it's compact size. The weight is really nice for reading in tablet mode, as I have several digital textbooks. It's really nice to have the stylus insert into the computer for charging...and partly the reason I did not go with comparable table PCs (friends had lost their stylus or had to replace batteries in the stylus). The battery life gets me through my school day without needing to recharge if it's on full battery. I would highly recommend this computer if you are looking for a light weight, durable, tablet/PC. Great PC for school, work, business, note taking, etc. After reading through many online reviews prior to purchasing and now having used this computer for about one month, I am very pleased with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome SurfaceBook Alternative Bought this after much debate and research into the SurfaceBook, and I could not have picked a better computer. Fantastic build, keyboard, and battery life, great screen, and utilitarian ThinkPad looks. The pen input works great for marking up PDFs, and I have no issues in the few weeks that I've had the computer.
