Oyen Digital 3N5-T2-M overview

  • 1Description

The Mobius 5-Bay Thunderbolt 2 Enclosure from Oyen Digital is equipped with five 3.5"/2.5" SATA III drive bays that support hard drives and SSDs, as well as two Thunderbolt 2 ports which allow daisy-chaining with other Thunderbolt devices, including displays and external drives. It is designed for users who have demanding storage requirements.

The Mobius' drive bays are removable and feature easy installation that is accomplished by sliding the handle to insert or withdraw each drive. While not designed as a hardware RAID, software RAIDs, such as SoftRAID, are supported. LEDs will display power, drive activity, and connection status, while the aluminum housing and 2000 rpm quiet fan help to efficiently dissipate heat and extend drive life. A secure key lock helps to avoid any accidental drive removal, while each drive bay features an independent power button, allowing them to be individually powered on and off.

The Mobius 5-Bay Thunderbolt 2 Enclosure includes a Thunderbolt cable, a power adapter, and a key set. It is protected by a limited 2-year warranty with free lifetime technical support.

    Oyen Digital 3N5-T2-M reviews

Mobius 5-Bay Thunderbolt 2 Enclosure is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product and support. This does not have any hardware RAID controller or software, so, if you want to create a RAID array you will need software to do it. I use SoftRAID. I am very pleased with this 5-bay SATA drive enclosure. It has five drive bays. It is inexpensive compared to all other five bay enclosures. I bought a second unit, and will probably buy a third. I had one question about drives, and Oyen Digital's tech support gave me the correct answer within a few hours. Excellent product and support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from so far so good i just bought this because I was having a lot of trouble with my OWC Thunderbay 4 bay with Thunderbolt 3. My drives were randomly getting ejected for no reason. There's some kind of mysterious problem with either the OS or the enclosure. Anyway I went out and got this guy and I really like it so far. Nice solid design. Quiet fan. It's relatively fast with the TB2. I've only had it for about two weeks so I don't know if I'll have the power supply problem a few others have mentioned but so far so good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Everything but the screws I've only had it for about two weeks but so far so very-good. The only thing that I found to be bad (very bad!) are the screws that it comes with for attaching the drives to the caddies. They completely resist going in straight. It seems like a little thing but stripping the mounting threads on the drives makes it a big thing in a hurry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wicked fast, nothing comes close on price... This was the least expensive 5-bay Thunderbolt 2 unit I found ($1098 with 20TB). I was familiar with Oyen Digital, so it wasn't a big risk for me. I have been pleasantly surprised by the quietness of the unit, but the speed really blew me away. I got almost 800MBps with 5 4TB Hitachi 7200RPM NAS drives in a RAID 0 when the unit was empty. With 6TB on the unit, I am still getting over 700MBps. This serves as a fast Time Machine backup drive on our main file server. We used to do this backup to a Drobo B1200i over gigabit iSCSI, but it was just taking too long. It is a secondary backup to a Carbon Copy Cloner clone of our primary data store. I use CCC's SafetyNet feature so that I can recover earlier versions of files from the clone if necessary, but I find it much easier to locate and recover files from Time Machine. I could purchase SoftRAID to make this unit a RAID 5, but I would lose speed and 4TB of space. If a drive ever dies, I'll just replace it, recreate the RAID and do the initial Time Machine backup again (did the initial 6TB backup in about 8 hours). Only real complaint is how warm the Hitachi drives run in this unit (about 65C according to SMART Utility). I have used these drives in other devices like Drobos 5Ds, and they don't seem to run as hot. Might be that the fan is a bit weak. I've got 3 years warranty on the drives and 2 years on the enclosure, so we'll see how it holds up. If it isn't obvious, this unit is NOT a hardware RAID, so don't complain if you didn't do your homework. For the record, SoftRAID is a great software RAID driver for enclosures like this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mobius you are awesome This is a great product, I had originally bought the Probox 8 for my iMac but while it works with my PC it failed to work with my Mac. The Mobius 5 works flawlessly. I love it. I'm thinking of getting a second one now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product, bad power supply I have had this product since November, 2016. So far I have gone through 2 power supplies. Other than that, great product. Fast.
