Intel BOXNUC6I7KYK1 Overview

  • 1Description

The Intel NUC6i7KYK Mini PC NUC Kit features an Intel Core i7-6770HQ processor and the capabilities you need to build a powerful portable system that you can take with you or fit neatly behind the monitor. The 2.6 GHz 6th-generation Intel Core i7-6770HQ processor comes armed with four cores for multitasking as well as offering speed bursts of up to 3.5 GHz while handling demanding apps. For memory capabilities, this NUC can support up to 32GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM memory modules as well as house two M.2 2242/80 SSDs that have a SATA- or PCIe-based interface. Moreover, it sports an integrated Intel Iris Pro Graphics 580 chipset so you can experience 4K visuals as well as smooth frame rates.

Intel has outfitted this NUC with a feature you do not normally find with most other NUCs by equipping it with a Thunderbolt 3 port that lets you daisy chain multiple devices such as monitors and storage drives. You can also enhance the graphics capabilities of this NUC by utilizing a dedicated graphics card, which is housed in a Thunderbolt enclosure. Other notable ports included with this NUC are four USB 3.0 ports and two audio jacks along with an HDMI 2.0 port, mini-DisplayPort 1.2, and Gigabit Ethernet port. Aside from ports, an SDXC slot, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.2 wireless are on board. Included along with the NUC are an external power adapter and a VESA mount that attaches the NUC6i7KYK behind your display.

Quad-Core Skylake Intel Core i7 Performance
This NUC features a 2.6 GHz 6th-generation Skylake Intel Core i7-6770HQ processor, with 6MB of L3 cache. The Skylake processor uses less energy when compared to previous Intel processors. With Intel Turbo Boost Technology, the maximum clock rate this processor can achieve is 3.5 GHz. Having four cores also allows the NUC to run multiple programs at the same time without slowing down the system.
Intel Iris Pro Graphics
The Intel Iris Pro Graphics chipset with 4K display capabilities allows you to edit photos and videos like a professional or immerse yourself in seamless 3D gameplay, all in 4K on three monitors at once. With Intel Iris Pro graphics, the NUC can quickly convert media files and provide fast frame rates.
The NUC6i7KYK comes with Intel 802.11ac wireless, so you can connect out-of-the-box to access files, movies, and music in the cloud. Furthermore, Bluetooth 4.2 is onboard, so you can connect wireless peripherals such as headsets and keyboards.
Additional Features
This NUC supports up to 32GB of RAM, so you can install the memory you need for fast map load times and app switching. The four USB 3.0 ports enable you to connect a keyboard, a mouse, and an Intel RealSense camera to the NUC. Additionally, one of these four USB 3.0 ports supports USB charging.

    Intel BOXNUC6I7KYK1 Reviews

NUC6i7KYK Mini PC NUC Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little, light but very powerful computer!!! I love this little PC. It's blazing fast and very quiet. Even when pushed to the limit you barely hear the fan. I opened it in 30 seconds, installed a 16GB crucial DDR4 2133 ram module and a samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD. It now flies. I also like that is very light and you can easily move it around. Apple should learn from the NUC skull Canyon, it has everything the Mac Mini should have had. I wish the next Mac Mini would be THIS product ! It has also HDMI, Display Port and a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port ! I use it with the amazing GeChic 1303H monitor which is powered by only a USB port !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Computer! So much power with such a small foot print! I was very disappointed that Apple had not released a new Mac Mini in a couple of years now, then I found the Intel NUC Skull Canyon edition. Wow! Just wow! The builtin basic graphics chip, Intel Iris, can handle games like EVE Online. The high speed ports are mostly just a bonus with endless possibilities. This is now my new TV/Entertainment computer!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little machine for basic gaming Speedy and quiet. I had reservations about this because of past reviews about how noisy the fan is. Its certainly less noisy than my mac laptop. This is my first nuc, so there were some pitfalls in the beginning for me- such as hdmi, wireless and ethernet not working without a driver update- which was a problem because I only had an hdmi screen. Graphic performance is not bad, I can run Pinballfx on Steam without slowdowns. Would I use this for hardcore gaming? No, but its better than the mac mini I was using as a steam machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Mini PC This UNC has all the specification which a dream mini PC can hold. If you are planning to run latest game on this then you might need to wait for future UNC release or you need to get external graphics. Other than that I am happy with my purchase. It comes with the latest BIOS pre-installed and after installing windows 10, I just need to manually install the wireless driver download using other computer and then once I connect to internet, windows 10 able to find and install all drivers automatically. But I still do recommend to update all your driver to latest from Intel website or using Intel driver update utility. With Samsung 950 pro SSD it just fly. I wish Intel allow 64GB memory then it would have been awesome for virtual PC. B&H did great job with fast delivery and awesome support. If I ever buy another one, I will definitely buy it from B&H.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Nice and VERY Compact PC I use this product as a media interface for my television and music streaming from a network server connected to a Marantz D/A converter. It is quick to boot, screen resolution is perfect for a 60 flat screen. Setup and installation was flawless. I do not normally use the SD card but during installation and setup it was very helpful. The Samsung 950 EVO M2 drive is amazing! Bottom Line: It is expensive but does everything I want in a size that makes sense in my living space.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A nice little PC. I added 32GB of RAM and the samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD drive and it works great. Very fast for most uses I presume. I use it at a little steam machine mostly and it runs games in low/medium settings relatively well with the integrated graphics. Recent AAA titles like the Witcher or Dark souls 3, won't really run that well on the integrated graphics. Windows 10 install was pretty fast, and it sleeps and wakes up very fast. When its working hard, fan noise is noticeable a bit, but pretty quiet. I intend to attach something like the Razer Core and a Nvidia GTX 1080 to it in the future with the intention of turning it into a VR capable system, and fully expect it will be amazing. HDMI audio seems to work flawlessly unlike other video cards/systems I've had. Unless a person is doing some hardcore video encoding or something extremely CPU intense, this is a perfect little PC and quite portable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best and Powerful NUC So Far If you are looking for a low cost of high performance system, please do not take any NUC system. If you are looking for a powerful but small (saving working space) beast with latest connecting ports, this NUC should be top at your list. I use this NUC at work and home, because this NUC is so small enough that I can bring it between home and office (I bought an extra power adapter and place each one at home and the office). I am not an enthusiastic gamer and use it for document editing, photo processing and reference database searching (>400 GB). Therefore, I need more powerful CPU and high speed disk (M.2 NVME is the best). Mac Mini (with one thunderbolt 2 port) was the top choice until this NUC6i7KYK launches. The drawbacks of Mac Mini is, after 2012, there is no 4 cores CPU in Mac Mini and specialized Apple format SSDs (it means it is not easy to upgrade system later). However, this latest NUC with one Thunderbolt 3/USB3.1 port and dual M.2 disk ports is the current best mini-PC system for me. Although there is no powerful GPU in this mini-PC, I am going to have an external GPU in thunderbolt 3 enclosure if I need. This only compliant is the heat in the current chassis. It is impossible to lower CPU temperature than 45 degree Celsius without noise higher speed fan cooling. However, I am waiting for a fanless NUC chassis from AKASA. AKASA has great reputation for making elegant fanless NUC chassis. I like the AKASA design more than APPLE Mac Mini box (with build-in fan).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Mini Computer on the market today. Just opening the box was an experience! Absolutely more than what I expected. Easy to set up, easy to install software and get running. Its blazingly fast and exactly what I needed for my application. As an IT, I needed something small and fast and which would carry out functions I could not do on my other VMs. So, overall it was a godsend.

With the addition of the 1tb SSD and 32gb ram, is the nuc then capable of running Adobe After Effects and Premiere for pro video. what are the drawbacks?
    Asked by: Eddie M.
Regardless of how much SSD storage you include in the NUC, it will be able to run those programs but you will be missing a key component to the mix, the graphics card will help you alot with your editing workflow. You can add one in if you buy a thunderbolt to PCIe enclosure and purchase a separate GPU. all in all i would say this may not be your best option if you want to get into video editing.

The specs list 6 usb 3.0 ports and 2 usb 2.0 ports the photos show half that many... What is going on there?
    Asked by: Anonymous
There are additional usb3 (x2) and usb2 (x2) ports accessible inside the housing. You have to remove the top lid (6 screws) and plug 2 different extension cables you can find online.

Specs state that the audio out is 3.5mm headphone/ microphone combo jack and underneath is just says 'SPDIF'. Is there a separate digital audio output or does the headphone jack support digital audio? If there is a digital audio output is it really Sony Phillips (SPDIF) or is it an optical jack (which is more typical) which is actually Toshiba Toslink. Curious because the two interfaces often sound a little different and specs are significantly different on the two. Second questions is, what is the casework made of? Is it an aluminum skin or plastic?
    Asked by: Brian W.
The audio jack on the back of the Intel NUC6i7KYK Mini PC NUC Kit is 3.5mm. This 3.5mm jack will support both the standard headphones, and an optical connection. The optical connection is called Toslink, and you would need a cable such as this: as well as a compatible receiver.

I have parts from an older MSI build, in which the MB (Z170 SLI plus) bricked when trying to flash bios! Want to build or install these parts in a mini case. I have MSI GTX970 OC GPU, delided 6700k processor, 2 XPG DDR4 8GB 2400 memory sticks and DVD optical. Obviously the CPU needs the Aestek cooler and some of the other parts, will not fit in this NUC. Just curious if Z boards and other hardware would utilize my parts, in this form factor or slightly larger?I tried building on my own with parts from Newegg and others, but had to send parts back multiple times, due to troublesome boards that wouldnt post. Although parts should have been compatible. Bread boarded my current parts with a friends older large Z board. Everything worked, just not on newer stuff such as ITX boards for some reason?Should I just stick with MSI newer Z boards for successful post and operability? Thanks
