Sirui T2204XL overview

  • 1Description

The T-2204XL Carbon Fiber Tripod with E-20 Ball Head from Sirui features reverse-folding legs that go around the ball head allowing it to fold down to 18.5". The T-2204XL extends to a height of 64" and weighs 2.9 lb. The center column on the T-2204XL is reversible for low-angle shots, and a short center column is included to get the tripod down to 5.7" above the ground. The 4-section legs have twist locks and are individually adjustable.

The E-20 ball head compliments the tripod and fits snugly between the 180° legs. It has separate locks for the 360° panning and ball movement. A lock on the clamp prevents the Arca-type compatible clamp from being accidentally released, and a numbered scale enables exacting pans. A padded case and shoulder strap is included to keep the tripod and head protected during transport.

    Sirui T2204XL reviews

T-2204XL Carbon Fiber Tripod with E-20 Ball Head is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great travel tripod I was looking for a lightweight tripod that could hold my d750 with telephoto and this tripod fits the bill. The case is nice but does add weight. The leg locks seem durable but only time will tell. The only thing worth mentioning is that when the legs are locked all the way out (largest angle) there is a good amount of flex. I could see movement being an issue in wind in this position. When shooting in the normal upright position and adding some weight to the hook it is rock solid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good option This Sirui has the height of the MeFoto Globetrotter and the weight of the MeFoto Roadtrip (bit less actually), which are both highly regarded. Quick review with comparison vs those MeFotos: Solid construction. One fewer leg segment on Sirui adds stability but increases folded length slightly over the MeFotos. No monopod conversion like MeFoto. Lower min height on Sirui. Rubber feet with screw-out spikes (instead of MeFoto's separate feet sets with tools required). Bigger/better weight hook on Sirui. The Sirui does securely hold a Sony a7rii with a heavy 24-70GM, but there is a bit of vibration (e.g. at max leg height and min center height) that needs a moment to settle after touching the camera -- expect to use the weight hook for best results with a heavy camera load like that. Lighter weight camera kits are a layup. Maybe not a Git$o or the best studio option but recommended for what it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great I looked at 'em all, and this one had a good price and four-section legs that I fancied would be a bit more sturdy than 5-section. The leg locks in half a turn of the knobs (with a click), and the legs stay put. It's stable, and the ball head is smooth, and locks well. I use a Sony a6000, and occasionally an old Nikon FE, and don't notice a problem with that sort of weight. If I was going to put my Celestron C5 on as a 1250mm Tele, I think the screw mount on the telescope would balance with the Sony body OK, and the tripod wouldn't have much trouble with the extra 5 pounds. Quick-release works fine, too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid, Llight, and Versitile! I just finished an intensive doc-fiction video shoot in Europe; using this tripod with my Canon 70D DSLR with 15-85 (kit) zoom lens. I replaced the included E-20 Ball Head (which works great for still photography) with my old but smooth and solid Manfrotto 128RC fluid head. I chose this Sirui model for having only 4 leg sections (as opposed to 5) and in spite of it being negligibly heavier than the slightly smaller portable Sirui offerings - it pays off in terms of stability (whenever possible hanging my knapsack or camera bag from the center column hook which - overall, for its size and weight - made it work like a setup 3 times the weight (and bulkiness). For me, this was the perfect blend of rock solid stability and lightweight portability. Moreover, its ease to adjust and manipulate, its adequate max height before using the centre column, made it a pleasure to work with whether 'running' with documentary situations or 'locked down' on stationary fiction set ups. Very solid build and performance!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tall enough and light enough This is my 4th tripod. I have three from the 70's. A Gitzo, perfect except that it weighs 8 lbs., a Leitz table top with a ball and socket head, very sturdy but short, and an aluminum Tilt-All works well but cumbersome. This one (Sirui T-2204XL) is sturdy, but is light with the carbon fiber legs, and more compact than my Tilt-All. Easier to carry or attach to my backpack of gear. My Gitzo (70's) is extra long and will go taller, but you won't carry it far. This one is the perfect compromise. I'm 5'9 tall so if you 6'+ this may not be tall enough.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy but not light This is a very well made tripod. However, a previous reviewer said is is lighter than the MeFoto RoadTrip. This is not the case; the listed 2.9 lb weight is for the legs only. With the head it is 3.6 lb and with it all in the nice padded case, 4.5 lb. It will be my serious tripod when I am not far from my car. When hiking my 2.1 lb Sirui T-024X is the most I will carry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great tripod, I would buy it again! Fantastic tripod, light weight, study, easy to adjust, and a great ball head. The reason for 4 stars is that I shoot low to the ground and really only need the short center column, but I wanted the bag/weight hook from the long center column to be transferable to the short Column, but it's not. That's about the only complaint I have. Great value for the money!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compact and strong Study, lightweight and tall. Very happy so far with this tripod.
