SkyBox Studio from Mettle is an Adobe After Effects plug-in that lets you create sophisticated 360 sequences in After Effects, undistort and work with stitched videos, and use a 360 browser-based player for preview purposes. SkyBox Studio features four modules, two more than SkyBox V.2, providing all these capabilities between them.
Regarding the ability to create 360 sequences, SkyBox Studio is designed specifically for you to take advantage of the rich features of After Effects in creating 360 sequences, as that can't be done in After Effects alone. SkyBox Studio enables you to tap into all the tools offered in After Effects, including most 3rd-party 3D plug-ins, and create CGI, abstract, and motion graphics 360 sequences. No 360 recordings are required. Rather, SkyBox Studio works directly with your After Effects compositions. It is compatible with After Effects CS6 and higher on Mac and Windows.
The main two modules are SkyBox Creator and SkyBox Converter. SkyBox Creator is a script that lets you create an authoring environment conducive to 360 production. Without it, you're just going to see a flat 2D authoring environment in After Effects. SkyBox Converter is a plug-in that does all the heavy lifting, like camera distortion, so you can output to 360 destinations like YouTube360. SkyBox Converter also enables you to convert your compositions into Cubic Cross, Equirectangular, Spherical, and Full Dome formats for compatibility with other software. Cubic Cross, for example, is the related format required for Cinema 4D.
The other two modules are SkyBox Extractor and Skybox Viewer. SkyBox Extractor is a script that allows you to undistort a stitched video, slice it up and create 6 camera views, and then apply all the tools that After Effects offers. After that, Extractor lets you put everything back together and output it in 2:1 Equirectangular format. Skybox Viewer emulates 360 browser-based players, like YouTube360, for preview purposes, allowing you to bypass numerous steps in your workflow.
