Kirk KLP-450 overview

  • 1Description

The KLP-450 Quick Release Lens Plate for Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR from Kirk is an Arca-type compatible plate. The plate itself is black anodized aluminum and the lip is satin sliver anodized, making them scratch-resistant. The lip can be mounted with a 90° or 30° angle, for a snug fit against the tripod collar on the lens, but it is recommended by Kirk to mount the lip with the 30° angle for this particular lens. This feature helps keep a tighter fit and prevents the lens foot from pivoting while mounted to the plate. The 1/4"-20 screw for the lens foot is made of stainless steel. Two included smaller screws can be used as safety stops to prevent accidental slippage on the head. There are three additional 1/4"-20 and one 3/8"-16 mounting holes on the plate for better positioning on the bottom of the lens foot. The plate has a double dovetail design for rigidity while clamped by an Arca-type head. All Kirk plates are made in the USA.

Double Dovetail
Double dovetail design ensures that the plate cannot twist off accidentally and allows attachment of additional accessories to the upper or lower surface of the plate
90° or 30° Mountable Lip
The lip can be mounted with a 90° or 30° angle, depending on the shape of the tripod collar; the lip prevents the lens foot from pivoting while mounted to the plate
Safety Stops
Stops prevent accidental slippage on the head
Three Additional 1/4-20" and One 3/8"-20 Mounting Holes
Four additional holes on the plate for better positioning

    Kirk KLP-450 reviews

KLP-450 Quick Release Lens Plate for Nikon AF-S 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic way to secure your lens to a tripod or a strap This well made plate allows for a quick mounting of the 200-500 to a Gimbal head, monopod, tripod, etc, as well as allowing for a carrying strap to be attached at the same time. This plate is compatible will all of my Arca-swiss type mounts, which makes things a lot easier. It also has a well placed hole to attach a Black Rapid strap, so it does not interfere when mounting the plate. Adversely, you can also tread the two ends of a conventional strap. I carry the 200-500 attached to a D500 + grip, so not only I try to avoid putting too much stress on the camera lens mount, but also allows me to carry the camera/lens combo in a more balanced position

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Kirk quality - design features mane this a buy This is a Kirk plate. Enough said. Its premium build is rock solid on my Acratech head. This is the lens plate designated by Kirk for the Nikon 200-500 lens, but I wonder if it is really a bit longer than the lens foot requires. Well, it is in fact longer, by about 1 inch. Seems like a 3 in plate would work also. The only advantage I can see is that it allows you to move the camera fore and aft a bit which may allow you to balance on a gimbal head a bit better. I haven't had any problems so far using a D-500 and D300. The plate is rock solid on the lens foot, and pay attention to the recommendation for the position of the rotation stop, which is adjustable/removable and came in a different position than is recommended for this lens (the bevel edge snugs up nicely to the Nikon lens foot). This is a feature not found on many other products and makes this Kirk lens plate a better choice than others. This is a great product with subtle but important design features that place this lens plate a step above others. Price - well it is a Kirk, but is certainly competitive with others.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job well. What more could you want from an arca plate? It fits well, has lot of extra threaded holes (for attaching things like a black rapid strap when not on a tripod) and has a nice stop that lets it fit snuggly. You can shift the stop along the plate to change where it sits relative to the lens which is helpful and would make this useful on other lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect fit with Sigma 150 - 600 contemporary Perfect and strong fit for Sigma zoom 150 - 600 contemporary. The 30 degre angle lip contact on the Sigma curved back support bracket ring keep firmely the release plate on position with monopod - tripod usage. No more slipping! Also, the KLP - 450 gave to me an extra 1 7/8 inches to help me holding this heavy lens with my big hand. So Kirk suggestion for this lens is KLP-310, but if you need longer support for your hand or balance the lens on the tripod, grab the KLP-450.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Twist-Free and proper length to balance the 200-500 I picked this lens plate over the much cheaper Chinese knockoffs based on a manufacturer I know to make quality products. The reversible lip at one end of the plate keeps it from twisting when attached tot he Nikon 200-500 tripod collar with the single mounting hole. It also provides the necessary length to let the Nikon 200-500 lens balance when used with a light camera body like the D7200.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nicely made as is most Kirk (and RRS) equipment. It fits well and attaches securely. The plate is longer than the lens shoe and thus allows a good range of balance adjustment on an Arca compatible head to compensate for camera weight and teleconverters.
