Combining strength and lightness, the black Pelican 1615Air Wheeled Check-In Case with Pick-N-Pluck Foam is watertight, crushproof, dustproof, and optimized for travel. For travel by air, Pelican has aggregated available airline rules for check-in dimensions with the goal of creating a case that conforms to their requirements. Of course there will always be exceptions, so it's wise to contact your carrier before departing.

Your 1615Air case is made of a super-light, proprietary HPX polymer with honeycomb structural elements that is up to 40% lighter than most other Pelican polymers. This confidence-inspiring design has been drop-tested on concrete on all sides and corners while loaded with gear. Not content to stop there; the case is also tested with a 28 lb steel dart dropped from a height of 3 feet, submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 3.3 feet, and wheels are roll tested over 1,000 yards with loads at 5 mph.

Fully-featured, the case has ABS double-throw latches that accept a user-supplied padlock, a watertight o-ring gasket, an automatic purge valve, and stainless steel hasp protectors. Users will appreciate the new, stylish conic curve lid shape, rubber overmolded handles, and an extending trolley handle. Additionally, for easier case ID, there's an attractive, removable polycarbonate card holder that may be placed on the front or side of the case.

Organizing equipment is an easy and straightforward operation with the Pick-N-Pluck foam interior. Simply arrange the gear you wish to carry on the foam, try a variety of placements, and when you're satisfied, remove pieces of foam until items fit to your satisfaction.

1615Air Wheeled Check-In Case (Black, with Pick-N-Pluck Foam) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great case so far Case is up to typically high Pelican standards, feels lightweight but sturdy. Has all the Pelican earmarks- the same double throw latches and quality handles, but uses lighter duty wheels and pull-out handle similar to what you may find on a Pelican 1510. If you are using this to fit more gear, but stay under an airline checked bag weight limit, this case will do the trick.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good case, weak handle Firstly, the Pelican 1615 air is a couple of inches smaller than the standard im2950 cases. I'm not sure why Pelican did this and if they intend to make an air case in the exact same size as the 2950. But should already know this before buying. The good is that this case is 6 lbs lighter than the im2950, which means you can fit a few more items or just save your back. This case is as solid as all other Pelicans and probably more solid than the im series cases. Pelican also added a business card slot on the outside which is a nice touch. I am a little worried that this slot will pop off during rough travel. The bad: My only beef with this case is the popup handles. It's super flimsy and I can see it breaking on me. One of the dealers at NAB said the handle was just as strong as all the other pelican cases. That can't be true. One thing I like to do with my pelican cases is tie them together and make a train. It's great for airports. I can't do that with the Air series because the popup handle bends way too far. I'll be curious to see if others feel the same. Otherwise, I'm so glad Pelican is working on lighter plastics and my back thanks them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must Have Case for Those That Fly with Lights The low weight of this case dry -something like 16-17lbs- kept my four light setup under 50lbs for the airlines. It also isn't considered oversized by any airline I've flown with (Delta, United, and Continental.) This saves me $200 every round trip in baggage fees. The protection of the case doesn't seem to be compromised in the weight savings, and this case has literally been around the country with me packed all the way to 47lbs. Countless flights, car rides, and slams to the ground without any issues to the contents or the case itself. I accidentally ran this thing over with my car last week and THOUGHT I had broken a latch, but it worked just fine and I've used it 3 times since then. LOL I wish the Pelican AIR series would include more case size options. These things are tremendous for air travel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stands up well for airline travel So far in 2 trips it has stood up well. The pick and pluck filler can be little difficult to make a perfect cut, but it works well. i decided to keep everything I cut out. The move that to the bottom layer and cut out the uncut layer for another group of items. be careful how deep you cut through the layers of foam protects delicate items well. Baggage handlers hardly put a scratch anywhere. Not very noticeable scratches. Definitely needs TSA locks for airline travel.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Airline safe music gear case Bought this as a case to use with my guitar effects board for local and international travel. Initialexperience has been positive. Easy enough to take around town onthe train or in a car. It's solid and I wouldn't be afraid to check it on a flight. One thing to consider is that there is a slight taper on the internal dimensions. The 15.5" / 39.4cm is the dimensions on the bottom of the case - which increases slightly towards the lid. It's a small aspect but if you building anything custom to fit inside make sure you usethe base measurements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for checked bag Pelican 1615 Air, I would say is probably the best case for traveling with checked gear at an standard sized rate. It maxes out right at the allowed dimensions to be under oversized and only weighs in at you plenty of room to carry large items such as a Skypanel S60 safely and under the 50lb weight limit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Air Case Perfect but not for airliners. After all the research ended up with this perfect case. weighs around 7kgs with the foam and easily carry-able. The dimensions total comes up to 62 inches. Since it has been showcased as an perfect aircase which can be checked-in I did not bother to verify with the airline. On the day of my travel, interestingly emirates said they can't allow for checkin since it exceeds 58 inches. They almost jeopardized me. would love to hear from Pelican on this case.
