Pelican 016150-0050-110 overview

  • 1Description

Combining strength and lightness, the black Pelican 1615AirTP Wheeled Check-In Case with TrekPak Insert is watertight, crushproof, dustproof, and optimized for travel. For travel by air, Pelican has aggregated available airline rules for check-in dimensions with the goal of creating a case that conforms to their requirements. Of course there will always be exceptions, so it's wise to contact your carrier before departing.

Your 1615AirTP case is made of a super-light, proprietary HPX polymer with honeycomb structural elements that is up to 40% lighter than most other Pelican polymers. This confidence-inspiring design has been drop-tested on concrete on all sides and corners while loaded with gear. Not content to stop there; the case is also tested with a 28-pound steel dart dropped from a height of three feet, and submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 3.3 feet. The wheels are roll tested over 1,000 yards with loads at 5 mph.

Fully featured, the case has ABS double-throw latches that accept a user-supplied padlock, a watertight O-ring gasket, an automatic purge valve, and stainless-steel hasp protectors. Users will appreciate the new, stylish conic curve lid shape, rubber overmolded handles, and an extending trolley handle. Additionally, for easier case ID, there's an attractive, removable polycarbonate card holder that may be placed on the front or side of the case.

Besides being lighter, Pelican has also improved the divider system. The system is called TrekPak and uses pre-installed wall sections, divider panels, locking pins, and an easy-to-use cutting tool. Simply lay your gear in the case, measure and cut the divider sections, and lock them in place with the steel U-pins. Extra divider material is included for occasions where your equipment requirements vary. 7/16" thick divider sections are made of waterproof, closed cell foam that is laminated to a rigid, corrugated plastic panel that resists tearing and shredding. The TrekPak is combined with 1" bottom foam and lid foam to give your gear 360-degree protection.

    Pelican 016150-0050-110 reviews

1615AirTP Wheeled Check-In Case (Black, with TrekPak Insert) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'll use this for a long, long time. I have a variety of equipment I use professionally for photos and videos, and for too long I've been hauling them around in separate bags and backpacks by the handfuls. Annoying. This is exactly what I needed for taking three cameras, a range of lenses, my audio gear and accessories ANYWHERE. I even fit a hand-held stabilizer in it, too, yesterday. The TrekPak inserts are easy to cut and arrange however you want. I would recommend having some additional foam or other packing material as needed, to keep things from flopping around, depending on what you have to pack. It's light, it rolls smoothly, it locks tight. Couldn't be happier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from YEEEEESSSS! I'm just going to be honest and say the original 1615 was useless for me. I wanted the case for traveling by plain alongside my 1500 series carry on. However It was 30 lbs, only allowing for 20 lbs of gear before your over weight for airlines. So this case is BEAUTIFUL! It's waaaay lighter, allowing me to fit the gear I need in it. I got everything I needed to travel with in and I was right at 50 lbs! This case is the perfect gear luggage. I am in love.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Case is a 5 Star, inclusions let it down Awesome case, very light! It seems a little more flexy than the originals, but it it still nice and tough. I got the version with TrekPak, which is great - but they don't include enough foam. You basically only get enough to run lengthways twice, and across twice. 93 inches - 2.38meters (two 765mm lengths, and two 425mm lengths). Which isn't enough for me - or if you want to have separate compartments for smaller things. I guess they assume if your buying a big case, you'll be putting big things in there. So its not great for putting lots of little things in there. You'll have to buy more foam from Trekpak, or foam lens bags or smaller boxes to put in there. It fits my manfrotto 055 tripod with a video head attached which is exactly what I wanted.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WAY Lighter! But Pelican, Fix the Loose Latch Problem I've now made several airline trips with this as checked luggage and it's doing great. The longer handle makes it easy to pull and rolls. It turns out I don't need the TrekPak - it's not rigid enough to form a shelf. Only get the TrekPak if you plan to make multiple small compartments so it will have structural integrity. There is an OBVIOUS DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE LATCHES, however. They don't stay down snugly - there's about ?? inch of looseness, so I gaffer tape them down before checking as luggage. Pelican sent replacement latches, I tried one, but they are exactly the same design as the original so it didn't solve the problem. The photo shows how loose the latch is - I raised it to where the release would begin. None of my other Pelican cases going back to the 1990's have had this problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great solid case Case feels solid and is much lighter than older Pelican cases, very happy with it. The Trekpak insert is great as far as it goes - it just doesn't go far enough. Really needs to include another foam strip as the Trekpak is really good at making dedicated small compartments (that you just can't do with normal foam or even padded dividers) but there is nowhere near enough included to do this. B&H doesn't sell extra strips and the Trekpak site charges a fortune for postage to Oz.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Awesome case I sold my Pelican 1650 to took the leap to this Air case and it is a huge improvement on the 1650case. Much lighter (that's why I purchased this) and it still feels very well built and strong enough most of my use flying around the world. A small change they made on this is that there is only 1 latch on each side compared with 2 on the 1650 case which is great so I don't open and close some many latches every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lightweight Checked Case This is my first Pelican Case and I can say that this is well worth the investment. The need arose when I used my regular Checked Luggage with wrapping my clothes around my equipment. It protected it, but organization was a pain. I had to remove clothes and get my hotel messy looking for my slider or my tripod, or whatever. Back to the case. The TrekPak is very good for organization and space saving. I Placed my Manfrotto 290CX, Manfrotto 502 HD, Manfrotto MHXPRO2W, Edelkrone SliderPlus, Sirui Monopod, Feelworld 7 Monitor, Glidecam XR-2000 (Disassembled), and Numerous smaller items. I fit everything and weighed it with 6 pounds to spare. It is big and this model is truly 40% lighter as the other models are a little less in percentage (Hence the *Up to 40% lighter). The TrekPak may not seem as shock absorbing in terms of the foam, but it is flexible which helps damper impacts. I have no glass or easily breakable items inside so I cannot tell if it can survive extreme impacts like falling a storye or more high. It is rather expensive, but for the extra space, even some mere centimeters extra, can fit a whole lot more than the fluffy barriers or even the pull and pluck and is not as messy as the latter. The Only Issue is that I wish it had half a foot more TrekPak slides. I am lacking some protection for some smaller items. If one needs extra TrekPak, one can buy extra strips from the actual maker of TrekPak. So Far B&H does not sell the individual strips, but keep checking for the individual strips here! Pros: *lightweight at 15lbs empty (In relativity to similar models) with 40% lighter material compared to the Pelican 1670 (Empty Weight 22 lbs). *Large and spacious and covers the dimensions of most airlines checked luggage *TrekPak saves extra space for more stuff *Latch designs very secure and five of them to make sure *Three Handles for ease of maneuver *Humankind has created the wheel for a reason *Sturdy Pull handle Cons: *Not enough TrekPak for some items *Top Foam keeps falling when Opening. Suggest gluing to the ceiling.
