The rode NTG-2 has can power itself with a AA battery. Will that battery power transfer also the this Fethead or must the Fethead power come from the recorder? I would like to plug NTG-2/Fethead combo directly into mirrorless camera.
Asked by: Bryan
No the battery power for the NTG-2 will not also power the Fethead preamp.

question

I know there doesn't seem to be any way to turn off the phantom pass through. Can you use this on dynamic mics like the Shure SM7b without any problem? Thanks.
Asked by: Dennis
The FetHead Phantom is only designed for condenser mics. The standard FetHead is designed specifically for dynamics such as the SM7B and ribbon mics as well.

How is this with omni-directional mics? Primarily for field recording in nature. Löm Usï Pro pair into a sound devices 552. Less than 10 ft. Cable.
Asked by: Michael
This would work well. It provides 18 dB of gain to condenser mics, and the polar pattern really does not come in to play, but you're mic will seem a lot hotter.

I have a Sennheiser MKH 416 and I didn't know the Sennhieser wireless plug SKP-100 doesn't have phantom power. Would this help give my microphone phantom power for wireless use? Or am I stuck investing in a SKP-500 for $499 USD?
Asked by: James
You could try using a more inexpensive wireless system that provides phantom power as well, like the Xvive U3C. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1484388-REG/xvive_audio_u3c_set_u3c_wireless_2_4_ghz.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

question

What does this run on? Does it require batteries? Since it supplies you with Phantom Power, do you need to put in any batteries or where does it get the power from? How long will this last or its 24/7?
Asked by: Pirhan
It passes through phantom power from the host device. it does not provide phantom power by itself. There is no power supply. This is an an in-line device.

Is this the correct Fethead for the Deity S-Mic 2S? Or should I be getting the regular Fethead? (The S-Mic 2S is a phantom powered mic, but even still this isn't clear).
Asked by: Jeremiah
Yes, the Fethead Phantom is for phantom powered microphones. I do not own a dynamic mic, only phantom powered condensers, and this is the Fethead I own.

Will this lower noise with a Zoom H6 and NTG4 Plus?
Asked by: Joe
If the noise you are experiencing is from having to turn up the gain on the mic pre amp of the Zoom H6, then this would help, by providing a dB boost. But you should not have to turn up the gain too much with a condenser mic such as the NTG4 Plus. If this is not the cause of the noise, then you may want to upgrade to a recorder with higher quality mic pre amp's, such as the Sound Devices MixPre-6 II 6-Channel / 8-Track Multitrack 32-Bit Field Recorder, BH #SOMIXPRE6II.
