FotodioX C-318RLS Flapjack Bi-Color LED Ring Light Kit
Key Features
  • 9.9" Flapjack Light
  • 2 x NP-F740 Style Batteries
  • Dual Charger
  • Power Supply Cable
Made of durable lightweight metal, the 9.9" diameter C-318RLS Flapjack Bi-Color LED Ring Light Kit from FotodioX is built around a light source that uses Edgelight technology, which entails pointing LEDs toward the outer edge of the fixture and reflecting them back toward the middle for ultra soft results. This versatile light also has color that's variable from 3200 to 5600K while maintaining a CRI of 85 for faithful rendition of colors down to the subtlest hues. It's dimmable as well from 10-100%. A back-lit LCD indicator shows light level, color temperature and battery life status. The C-318RLS's central opening will fit up to 130mm-diameter lenses and a rod-mountable bracket is provided for your camera. At only 1/2-inch thick, the C-318RLS fits where other lights just can't go. And you can work close-up too, without fear of causing the talent discomfort, since running the light all day at full power barely makes it warm to the touch.

question

What is the weight of the ring light?
Asked by: jamie a.
Fotodiox only lists the shipping weight of this product which is 8.5 lbs. Generally, a rig with 15mm rods would be supporting the weight of this ring light and allowing you to put your camera directly in the center of it.

question

What - exactly - is needed to mount a DSLR to this so as to shoot through it?
Asked by: Craig
You can either mount the Flapjack Ring Light on a tri-pod and hold your camera to shoot through it, which I have done, or you will need to purchase a rail system. I contacted Fotodiox directly and they gave several suggestions, none of which, unfortunately, are available through B&H. I went with one made by Tarion, the TR-BASE1. I just got it yesterday and it is very sturdy and will more than work for my needs.

The light is very even and, as far as I can tell, flicker free. The flapjack products seem well made.
