Onkyo TX-NR555 overview

  • 1Description

Enjoy wireless audio streaming and object-based, multi-channel audio with the Onkyo TX-NR555 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver. The receiver features Dolby Atmos compatibility for object-based audio support, plus it will support DTS:X with a future firmware upgrade. It delivers up to 80W per channel at 8 Ohms for robust audio playback. Built-in AirPlay and Bluetooth connectivity allow you to wirelessly stream music from compatible audio sources such as computers, MP3 players, smartphones, and tablets. Onboard Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity give you the ability to stream music from Internet radio sources.

The Onkyo TX-NR555 has six HDMI inputs for interfacing audio and video sources, three of which support 3D and 4K video sources. There's also a USB port on the rear panel for attaching a USB drive. The free Onkyo Remote app will allow you to control your receiver from a smartphone or tablet. Built-in high-resolution audio support allows you to take advantage of dynamic surround sound formats like DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.

Note: Not all services are available in all areas. Access to certain Internet-based content may require a subscription to a service.

Dynamic Audio Amplification
Onkyo's dynamic audio amplification delivers power at 140W/Ch (6 Ohms, 1 kHz, 0.9% THD, 1 Channel Driven)/ 80W/Ch (8 Ohms, 20 Hz to 20 kHz, 0.08% THD, 2 Channels Driven).
Smooth Analog Signal
Onkyo developed Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry (VLSC) to reassemble the audio signal to its original form following processing. Unlike conventional filters, VLSC removes pulse noise generated in D/A conversion, allowing the sound wave to be reproduced with high fidelity for a smooth analog signal.
Multi-Zone Audio
The TX-NR555 Powered Zone 2 brings audio to speakers connected to the receiver into a second room. With the dedicated Zone 2 DAC, you can send Internet audio and digital audio sources to your second listening zone.
Supports Dolby Atmos Up to 5.1.2 Channels
Dolby Atmos surround sound technology dispenses with channel-based coding in favor of more advanced object-based coding, giving the sound designer the ability to precisely place sounds anywhere in the 3-dimensional space. The TX-NR555 features the ability to connect a surround sound speaker system and two additional overhead speakers, or two additional Dolby Atmos-certified up-firing speakers.
DTS:X Ready
DTS:X is an object-based surround sound technology that includes height channels for a more immersive listening experience. You will be able to personalize your audio experience, for example, by turning up just the dialog within a mix. DTS:X allows you to customize to your room layout as well as control dialog and dynamic range. DTS:X functionality will be made available via a future firmware update.
4K Ultra HD Video Performance
The TX-NR555 features HDCP 2.2 compatibility on three inputs and its output to support 4:4:4 color space and 4K @ 50/60 Hz, which is four times the clarity of 1080p/60 video resolution. The TX-NR555 enables transmission of High Dynamic Range (HDR) formats, with BT.2020 support, and provides enhanced picture quality by simultaneously enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. The TX-NR555 also upscales 1080p video to UHD.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with Pandora, Spotify, and AirPlay
The TX-NR555 has AirPlay, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth technologies built-in to stream virtually any audio from a smartphone, tablet, or computer to your home theater for powerful sound. With Spotify, Pandora, and TuneIn built-in, you can select a station and search for music available on these services via the free Onkyo Remote app on your phone. The Onkyo Remote app puts streaming options at your fingertips, from universal hi-res audio via network-attached devices, to Internet streaming services, to music on your smartphone and tablet. Furthermore, Tidal and Google Cast will be operable with an upcoming firmware update.
384 kHz/32-bit DAC
The AK4458 digital-to-analog converter from Asahi Kasei implements low-distortion filtering technologies for clear sound and unlocks the potential of any audio format, including compressed, lossless, and hi-res audio (MP3, WMA, WMA Lossless, FLAC, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AAC, Apple Lossless, DSD 5.6 MHz, LPCM, and Dolby TrueHD).
AccuEQ with AccuReflex
AccuEQ conducts two measurements to set the level, distance, and crossover for all speakers, including the subwoofer. Choose to include or bypass EQ measurement for front left and right speakers, and choose to automatically or manually set the EQ. Further, you can save your own manual EQ settings into three available presets. AccuReflex technology aligns the phase of up-firing "height" speakers with the sound coming directly from your other speakers. Any delay is resolved so that everything arrives at your ears at the same time. The result is cohesive reproduction of object-based soundtracks.
FireConnect Multi-Room Audio
A firmware update will enable any audio source connected to the receiver (from vinyl to streaming audio) to be sent wirelessly via FireConnect, powered by Blackfire, to an optional compatible speaker placed anywhere in your home.

    Onkyo TX-NR555 reviews

    TX-NR555 7.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very pleased with this purchase the initial setup was smooth, and this is before the television. The sound is clean and crisp on both low and high levels. I paired this receiver with Polk Audio speakers and I am pleased. The set up was easy and this is with out the television which is coming today and union this will be. Excited. love the Bluetooth compatibility and the simple remote. more to come.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Onkyo AV Receiver Review TX-NR555 Dials that used to be metal are now cheap plastic, which hurts the aesthetics and lessens the feel of quality. The labels under each of the function buttons are lightly printed in a faint white on a black background. This makes them extremely difficult to read, especially in low light (essentially impossible). On the plus side, it is easy to set up and works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great value Ha, just posted a review of my new Polk speakers instead of this Onkyo receiver by accident. This is a great receiver, really easy set up and fully future-proof with all the digital and wireless tech. But still has a phono connection for my record player.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value This is my first home theater surround sound setup and so far I'm really happy with it. I was trying to decide between this unit and the Bose Acoustimass 6, and I'm really glad I didn't go with the Bose, which was $300 more (despite the specs being almost identical to the Polk's). I really like that this Onkyo is 'future-proof' - it has all the wireless capabilities that will keep it functional for a long time. I also thought the setup was super easy. My new house was pre-wired for surround sound, so I just hung these speakers from a 1/4 screw and attached the speaker wires and was ready to go. As far as sound quality, I'm no audiophile by any stretch but I think the sound is excellent. I'm still playing around with the different settings and seeing what I like, but music sounds superb on these speakers. TV shows sound crisp and clear too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wow Seem less operation. Stream, Bluetooth, simple remote intuitive menu. Love this receiver and this is without tv. Paired with Polk audio speakers, sound is clean crisp and true. My living room is lit

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Value The receiver has an easy setup process and the room EQ worked well. It did set my crossover very low - 40hz for bookshelf speakers - but it is easily adjustable. Lack of Google Cast support at this time (apparently a future furmware update will add it) is disappointing but there are plenty of other ways to stream music to the receiver. I wish there was HDMI and USB on the front panel instead of the back. 4 Stars for these minor issues. #sweepstakes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this I recently purchased a home that had a theater, but the sound system was excluded. The room was all wired up for 7.1 sound, and so I purchased this Onkyo receiver and an Onkyo speaker system. I was not disappointed. The receiver comes with a microphone to characterize the acoustics of the room. Very cool. Apparently it already had the firmware updates people often refer to when talking about this receiver. Admittedly some of the settings send me to Google to figure out what they mean, but this is my first real audio equipment. I hooked it up to an Apple TV, but there are several built-in apps like Pandora and Chromecast if you like those things. It has a new iOS app which lets you change settings and volume without having to get up, which is nice. Overall, there's like no noise, the sound is very crisp, and it was very easy to set up and use. I'm very pleased with what I bought.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value Receiver This machine had easy set up. Great sound distribution and easy to use Remote. The ability to use HDNI to control multiple devices just adds to its value.
