Point Source Audio EO-8 Overview

The beige Point Source Audio EO-8WL EMBRACE Omnidirectional Earmount Lavalier Microphone is an ear-mounted microphone that provides pristine sound quality with a secure and comfortable fit. It is ideal for capturing vocal performances in theater, broadcast, film, corporate, and other applications where the performer's microphone needs to be concealed.

This omnidirectional microphone delivers 136 dB maximum SPL with a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and high-gain before feedback, making it well suited for use in low- to moderate-noise environments. It is mounted on a flexible boom which bends up to 360° and allows the miniaturized capsule to maintain consistent placement at the corner of the mouth for an even sound quality, regardless of head movement.

The EO-8WL boasts an IP57 waterproof rating and is protected against water, sweat, and makeup. For a precise custom fit, you can bend, shape, and trim the included earmounts, and choose between left- or right-ear placement.

This headset comes with an XSH interchangeable 4-pin mini X-Connector for Shure, Line 6, JTS, Trantec, and Carvin wireless transmitters. A windscreen, two clothing clips, and a cable clip are also included.

Good not great for my purposes

This mic has a great sound and, once you get it fitted correctly, you forget it's there. Unfortunately, I can't use it in my typical live application (more below). The deal breaker is that the mic is far enough from my mouth that I have to turn up the gain much louder than on my previous Countryman-style knock-off. Using this with a Fishman SoloAmp (stick-type system) in schools and libraries, I get high-end feedback that is most unpleasant whenever I walk in front of the system (this is not a problem with my other mic which is on a boom and much closer to my mouth). The other issue I have, and this will apply to everyone, is the way the mic threads through the earpiece (see photo). There's nothing that covers the interior side of the cable, just a couple of small tabs meant to hold the cable in place and, well, they don't hold the cable in place. There's a sharp angle (nearly 90 degrees) and it virtually always comes apart there. It seems to me a better solution would be to have two halves that snap together or something on that interior side to keep the cable more secure. I will try the Point Source Countryman-style mic and let you know how it compares. I also do video work and will probably use it for that, but it's not a keeper for live shows.

We picked up a pair of these for our preacher and ministers to try for tv, it blends with skin well, is comfortable, and produces excellent quality on tv and in the room. We’ve had requests from other ministers to get more so we did.

What environment would the high sensitivity be ...

What environment would the high sensitivity be best for over low sensitivity?

In a general sense, a high sensitivity mic is typically best in a broadcast studio type setting whereas the low sensitivity is best for theatre and live sound where you need more headroom.

Yes, it can! Each mic comes with one X-Connector. Additional X-Connectors for other wireless brands can be purchased separately.

Will this work with the 3 or 4 pin connector or 3.5mm?

Hi Mark! This mic model EO-8WL-XAT-BE has an interchangeable X-Connector compatible with the Audio-Technica (XAT) wireless system. If you wish to switch out to other wireless brands, you simply swap out for another X-Connector which can be purchased separately. For example, XSH (for Shure) or XSE (for Sennheiser.)
