Brother MFC-J985DW XL Reviews

Awesome printer, and amazing ink management

I got this to replace an Epson Workforce 610. I liked that printer, but like all Epson products the ink system fails after a couple of years by spreading black stains on the printouts. Also, Epson ink was never efficient. The Brother MFC-J985DW-XL was a life saver! It came with three packs of ink. EACH of these packs lasted a year!! I bought the MFC-J985DW-XL in the Summer of 2018, and am just about to use the last of the third pack. I did A LOT of printing! The Workforce 610 was a joke compared to this. I should have switched to Brother years ago!! The quality is amazing, and it has little webapps you can download to the printer. They include templates for arts and crafts. Though the actual template doesn't look like the image on the screen. The LCD screen is small, but colorful, touch enabled, and easy to navigate. The only feature that I could not get to work at all was the NFC print feature. My Note 9 would connect, and the printer would acknowledge it, but it never printed anything. The paper tray is just awesome, so many ways to load the paper!! This is a great printer with a great value!! PaulJC April2020

Best all in one printer

This has been one of the best all in one printers that we have ever owned. I'm just now changing the ink cartridges for the 2nd time today and we have it it for 3 years this Dec. No complaints at all. It has a wired fax which is great. No more having to buy new printers because the company does not support efax anymore.

I found this perfect for what I needed as a compact printer, I use in a camper for when I am working on the move. Was very easy to setup and use. Presently only using Print and Scan features. So far the most economical Printer for an ink printer.

Lots of easy to use features that make life easier. All my devices work with it well over WiFi. The ink lasts a long time. When the ink is out it reorders it for me and is delivered to my home!

Beware of use with ASUS router!

Printing from my windows PC works well. Scanning does not, as the Brother software reports that it cannot find the scanner, despite being connected to tne WIFI network and printing well using my Windows PC. I also have issues printing from both Android and iOS devices, as they also have intermittent issues finding the unit as an available printer. Brother support worked on the problem, and indicated this is a knows issue with ASUS routers. They suggested 4 setting changes to my ASUS AC3100 router, but these caused other instability issues with the android and iOS devices, so went back to original settings. I am left with a printer that is great for my Windows PC, but only sometimes available for my mobile devices. Also with a scanner that is almost useless.

question

What size paper does the tray hold? I assume it holds 8 1/2 x 11 but will it also hold 8 1/2 x 14 ?
Asked by: Bob
Sorry... You should go by the Sheet Count in the original documentation. I keep heavy stock in my printer and just mis-remembered the number of sheets that it holds. I hadn't double checked it since your question was bout 8-1/2 x 14 paper.
