Brother MFC-J985DW XL reviews

MFC-J985DW XL All-in-One Inkjet Printer is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 222.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Printer The Brothers MTC-J985DW-Xl seems like a very decent printer. It provides all the capability I need at a good price and low per page cost. I have only had it about a month so only time will tell if my 4-star rating rating stands up. Easy to set up but I hard wired it rather than use the wireless. It sits next to my computer and I have no reason to ever printer from another device. The only issue is the fact that the usb cable port is very well hidden and I had to call Brothers to find it - you would think that Brothers would have at least one diagram showing were the USB port is located! Using with an iMac.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ??? I love the size of the printer. Many of the printers were much to large for my space. Several printers accept, I mean push, 11x17 size paper. I was in the printing business for many years where 11x17 was good for printing and cutting in half to end up with 8x11 product. I would say that no one in a small office needs to print and then try to cut the paper in half and have it come out right. The screen on the printer has very small type and impossible to select anything with my semi long nails. I have to use a pencil eraser. Putting paper(s) in the printer to scan or fax is very difficult. They get stuck and you have to work hard to straighten them out.(very annoying).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Status Light Overall, the printer works as expected. It remains to be seen what life the cartridges will give, but I am hoping for the best. My single qualm is with the power on status light. The brightness and incessant blinking are a major distraction to getting to sleep if the printer is in a bedroom. I had to tape over several small pieces of semi transparent tape to modify the brightness and still allow a dimmer light to shine thru. I think a small non-blinking LED would suffice. Preferably the LED would be colored red instead of green as red is less distracting in the dark from my experience with alarm clocks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent, no nonsense, high value all in one Our printer is being used at home. It gets used daily by all members of the family. It's only been a few months but already we can see that its reliable, has good output quality for homework projects and other casual at home printing projects. We printer from our phones, tablets and laptops wirelessly with ease. It hasnt let us down yet and sips ink slowly. With these three XL ink cartridges, we expect years of service before buying more ink. We havent tried faxing from it yet but every other feature has been tested without any problems. So far, no regrets. I only wish the touch screen was a little bigger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, fast, simple, everything I need. I just bought this Copier/scan/fax/printer, so my use is limited so far, but I couldn't be happier at this point. I didn't have to spend a lot of money to get a really good machine with all the features I need. As I almost never made "photos" from my previous machine (Hp, which was also a very good one), I decided to try this Brother model all in one. So far, it's fast at copting and printing, so easy to set up and use and love that they include a year's worth of ink in the box. What a deal. I'll update after I have a chance to use the scanner/fax and have more time using it. Highly recommended so far.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Like relatively inexpensive ink but slow I prucahsed the product largely due to the purported long lasting, less expensive ink. When working, the print quality is acceptable. Two sided printed works very well. I like the small footprint and appearance. My main disapointments are the long lag time to start printing (literally sometimes 3-4 min - I timed it). Also sometimes it hangs up and it is very difficult to get the document cleared from the print queue. The ink dries up in the nozzles if not used every few days. Leave for a 2 week vacation and only some print heads will still be functional. I have to force it to do several major head cleanings to get it to work again. Also, the paper loading tray does not work smoothly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult instructions; printer tray flimsy I bought this to replace an old HP multifunction photo printer that I used for all sizes of photo prints with good quality. This is no replacement. Any 8x10 photo attempts have lines running through even at the best settings. Very difficult to figure out how to print anything other than 4x6 and the printing tray is weak plastic--afraid it will crack and break with a few printings--probably won't outlast the ink. The printing tray does not fit smoothly into the groove. Although setup easy, full instructions are incomplete and must be obtained on-line. The wireless does work easily with my laptop and works for routine 8x10 paper printing, but overall not a good replacement for printing photos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Great.....but! The Brother works great, but it has two characteristics that are annoying. First, I cannot get it to print pages in the proper order - last to first so the first page is always on top. Second, the print heads get clogged or something so printing looks as if the machine was running out of ink. The print heads do a self-cleaning so it corrects itself, but sometimes this occurs in the middle of a job and requires reprinting. The primary reason we bought the Brother is that is doesn't use a lot of ink. We have been very impressed with how many pages we can print on a set of cartridges.
