Sony CATP1099S overview

  • 1Description

Designed to get the organizational part of the process out of the way first, Sony's Catalyst Prepare can be thought of as pre-postproduction software. It allows you to offload and backup footage from camera media, organize files, apply non-destructive color correction, do basic editing, create storyboards, and more.

Catalyst Prepare supports files from a range of cameras, including models from Sony, Canon, GoPro, and works at resolutions up to 4K. Once the rough cut is ready, files can be exported in a range of NLE-friendly codecs or uploaded directly to Sony's Ci Media Cloud Services for remote collaboration. Catalyst Prepare 2016 adds about a dozen important new features, such as Rec. 2020 and FTP support, additional transcode options, and improved proxy workflow.

New in Catalyst Prepare 2016
  • Support for Rec. 2020 color space
  • Full screen secondary preview window for multiple monitor setups
  • Burn-in timecode and clip name
  • Additional transcode options (including settings for crop, flip and mirror, anamorphic stretch, clip padding, encoding mode, ignore mark points)
  • Relink offline or missing files in library
  • Consolidate library into a single folder for easy sharing and collaboration
  • Export bins as folders to bring your library organization into other post-production tools
  • Quickly save snapshots of frames in JPEG, BMP, and PNG formats
  • FTP support
  • Improved proxy workflow allows viewing of proxy clips and copying proxy clips only

Multichannel Support
Catalyst Prepare supports files with up to 16 channels of audio.

Review the full range of color captured by S-Log and Raw on Sony cameras. Use the brightness, contrast, tone curves, color wheels, and color correction sliders to adjust color while viewing the waveform, vectorscope, and histogram displays. You can transcode your files with the color adjustments, or save the settings as standard ASC-CDL to apply later in the finishing session.
Support for Tangent Control Panels
Use optional Tangent Wave or Element surface control devices to adjust color settings. These devices provide dedicated hardware controls for fluid adjustment of RGB, Lift, Gamma, and Gain.
Logging and Simple Editing
Edit mode enables additional logging, adjusting of in/out points, creation of subclips, and first-pass color correction.
Transcode or Copy

You can choose to include color adjustments if desired, and select output color space in the transcode process.

Export to NLE
