Barska AE12406 overview

  • 1Description

Built like a telescope and optimized for terrestrial use, Barska's 560x80ED 80mm f/7 ED APO Spotting Scope is engineered with a triplet lens configuration using extra-low dispersion (ED) crown and flint glass elements and a fully multi-coated optical path to virtually eliminate chromatic aberration so colors are rendered accurately without halos with high contrast. The short focal length and large objective produce a relatively fast focal ratio, making it an ideal digiscoping platform to capture photos and videos through the optical tube. Complementing the optical performance, and to further help imaging, the scope is outfitted with a large 2" Crayford-style focuser that uses a gearless friction system to achieve a level of precision focusing that conventional rack-and-pinion systems are unable to, without backlash. This size drawtube allows larger imaging sensors on many of today's DSLRs to be completely covered, ensuring full-frame image capture without vignetting.

The scope comes with an array of optical accessories to help you get observing faster. To put the eyepiece in a comfortable viewing position and to correct the image for land use, Barska includes a 2" 90° erect-image prism. This prism features dielectric coatings, which have a better than 99% light reflectivity to preserve image brightness, contrast, and color. The two included 1.25" eyepieces will fit the drawtube or diagonal using the included 1.25" adapter. A 10mm fixed focal length eyepiece produces a 39x magnification, and using the 8-24mm zoom eyepiece will give you fast access to a magnification range from 70 to 23x. By utilizing a telescope-style focusing system, the Magnus can mount any 2"- or 1.25"-diameter eyepiece to give you access to an almost limitless amount of magnification and accessory options.

This iteration of the Magnus is offered without a mount or tripod for users who already have a mounting system, and it comes with a 1/4"-20 mount on the bottom to put it on most photo or field tripods. To protect the scope during transport and storage, Barska includes a hard carrying case that will hold the optical tube assembly (OTA) and all the included accessories. Whether you want to look at the Moon and planets, or go birding and nature viewing, the Magnus spotting scope is an ideal companion for all your glassing needs.

    Barska AE12406 reviews

560x80ED 80mm f/7 ED APO Spotting Scope is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Focuser is not the best, but a great deal for the money I bought one of these telescopes for my astronomy program. It is a nice setup that comes with a hard case, a 2" diagonal, and two eyepieces that are pretty nice for kit offerings. From the start, I did not care much for the focuser. It was clearly the weak spot of this telescope. After some searching online, I found a better replacement and now use it with the telescope. The optics are very nice and bright, and starts show well across the entire field with the use of better eyepieces. I liked it so much, I bought a second one. You will be hard pressed to find a better telescope for this price anywhere. If it had a better focuser, it would be a five star review.
