ikan LB10 overview

  • 1Description

The Lyra LB10 Bi-Color Soft Panel 1 x 1 Studio and Field LED Light from ikan is built into a heavy-duty molded plastic chassis providing a lightweight yet strong variable color fixture with enhanced features such as 100-10% flicker-free dimming , LCD display, and an included wireless remote to adjust color and light intensity. It features an integrated 1/2 stop diffuser for extra softness, while its 900 LEDs produce a 110° beam spread with a high CRI of 96 and a TLCI of 98 for precise color rendering. The fixture produces a soft single-source shadow pattern owing to the integrated diffusion.

The Lyra comes with a multi-voltage AC power supply but it also has a battery-powered option thanks to the inclusion of Gold Mount and V-Mount battery plates, while the four-leaf barndoors provide control over light spill, and feature removable light intensifiers to suit your taste. The yoke is angled forward 30°, which allows you to open the barndoors all the way without hitting the yoke when the light is pointed straight forward. The fixture also has a combo Baby receiver/Junior pin on the yoke so you can mount it on a stand or hang it from a grid with optional clamps.

Color Temperature Adjustment and Dimming
The big yellow knob on the back of the unit controls both the color temperature selection and the dimming of the unit. It features an indent for fingertip control and is positioned at the edge of the fixture, which is cut away allowing you to adjust the knob from the side of the unit when the back is difficult to access. When you power on the light the yellow dimming knob defaults to controlling the dimming, pressing in the knob switches it to color temperature control (3200 to 5600K), pressing it again reverts back to dimming. You can also use the included wireless remote to control the color temperature and dimming.
Consistent Light Levels
The light output stays consistent as you transition across the color temperature range, preventing the brightness spike that happens with many LED lights around 4300K.
Soft Source, Single Shadow
The 1/2 white diffusion softens the light and provides a 110° beam spread and a single source shadow.
Removable Intensifiers
While some users may enjoy the small increase in light output that intensifiers bring, other users prefer to use barndoors without intensifiers. The removable intensifiers that come with this light attach securely to the barndoors. You do not have to attach all four intensifiers, which allows you choose how many barndoors to use for bumping up your output and how many barndoors to use to cut spill. The top and bottom barndoors integrate gel clips for attaching diffusion or gels.
Battery Power
The fixture features an interchangeable Gold Mount battery plate. Removing four screws and disconnecting the snap connector allows you to swap out the included V-Mount plate.
LCD Info Screen
On the back of the fixture is an LCD info screen that displays the battery power remaining, brightness percentage and color temperature.

    ikan LB10 reviews

Lyra LB10 Bi-Color Soft Panel 1 x 1 Studio and Field LED Light is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review: Lyra LB10 Bi-Color Soft Panel 1 x 1 Studio & Field Bought 2 lights. Nothing short of awesome! Adjustable dimming and color temp is amazing. Plus they'll run approximately an hour and 10 minutes off a Anton Bauer brick. Great fill in field and perfect for green screen work. They're light and compact and pretty much fit any stand. This is a must have light for any busy production house that needs to run and gun a busy schedule. Buy em and love em!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not perfect, but close! I bought three of the Lyra's and have used them on about 5 or 6 shoots so far. I was really excited when these were announced and to be honest, they have lived up to most of the hype in my opinion. However, I've found a few drawbacks in the little time I've spent with them. So far no deal breakers though. Let's start with the good: They are soft and bright! In my purely unscientific tests, I also feel like I'm getting better color out of my Panasonic GH4 when I do a custom white balance with these vs. my old tungsten and florescent lights. I'm guessing that is a result of the high CRI of the Lyra's. The adjustable brightness and color temperature enable MANY different looks with even just two lights. The barn doors are very sturdy and nice to have. The reflective inserts can come out if you prefer to have black barn doors instead, they also have clips for gels which is great. The yoke is high quality and works really well. The option to use these with AB or V-mount batteries is another heads up play by ikan. It's the little things that count:) They come with remotes which is kind of cool, I briefly tested them and they definitely work for adjusting both brightness and color tempature. It may come in handy if you have a lyra hanging from a ceiling or some unreachable space. Now the not as good as it could be part: The power bricks hang in mid air if your light is higher than 5ft or so, which will be pretty much everyone so that was a bit of a bummer. However, a simple Velcro strap is an easy fix. The power brick also has a faint hiss at certain power levels. For example, it may hiss at 30% and 33%, but not 31-32%, its strange... My mics haven't picked it up, but I figured it was worth noting. The heavy duty plastic feels a little cheap sitting next to the high quality metal yoke. I imagine the plastic helps keep costs and weight down. So far it has held up just fine, I'm not too concerned about it. Final Thoughts: The ikan Lyra as of today, is in my opinion the best value for a soft LED panel. It's not perfect, but it's close. I think ikan is headed in a great direction with this product and I look forward updated versions in the future. In the mean time, these will be my daily drivers. I will try to give an update in a few months.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great 1x1 LED at good price I purchased this 1x1 to use as the key light in my now three point lighting kit for interviews. I'm usually working alone on shoots, so I wanted something easy to use and set up. I was torn between the Ikan Lyra and the Lite Panels Astra Soft Light, which is about twice the price. After watching some reviews on the Lyra I went that route, and am glad I did. It puts off a nice soft light, which you can make pretty darn bright if you want to. Being able to control the intensity of the light and the temperature with one knob is pretty awesome. The angled yoke is also a nice design feature. It does feel a bit plastic-y compared to the Astra, but I'm sure that helped keep the price of the light down and actually makes it less heavy for transporting it. Overall, I'm stoked on the light and would recommend if you are the type of shooter who doesn't always have a gaffer available to light your scenes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lights I wanted to upgrade from the 500 Watt tungsten bulbs I was using and looked into 1000 Watt fresnel options. I was led away from that direction because of he extreme heat, power usage and probable need for a circuit breaker for each light. I'm sure they are great pro lights but for my uses they wouldn't do. I shoot mostly interviews and TV pitches in smaller locations. I was reluctant to even consider LEDs because of the bad experiences I had with the inexpensive ones. I was told that these were nothing like them. The diffusion panel interested me because I wouldn,t need to consider further equipent and set up time. I was told that these lights won't produce the same tonal softness that fresnels would. Actually, I was pleased in the softness when I tested them even though it would not have been a deal breaker for me. I used them for one extensive shoot so far and was happy with the adjustable temperature since I had to match outside light. Also, the 1000 Watts (I bought 2 so 2000 Watts) allowed me to stop down enough to match the outside day light. They seem well built and I am very happy so far. B & H was great in taking the time to address my needs and suggest something that was right for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Video or Photography Easy setup, easy to use. Compact unit. Good light output. Love the amount of control it provides. It would be nice if it came with some gel filters, but those are easy to get. #sweepstakes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lights! One of my favorite lights I’ve ever used hands down. I used these to light up some scenes for a commercial we shot in a large mall that had daylight pouring into it. The output with both bi-color options were strong and consistent and we used the battery power option with both of the lights we had. We had to circulate batteries pretty often but nothing that impeded production where we had to stop just had to keep an eye on battery life but while we were switching through a lot of locations the batteries were extremely helpful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality and reliable for the price point The Ikan LB10 LED light has been great. Have used this as my primary key light for corporate interviews on multiple occasions. It is not an item you rent out but for the self shooting looking for a cost-effective LED light, it’s great. You can change color balance from tungsten to daylight and the intensity of light also. The other addition of it bering able to run via batteries (VLock of Gold mount) is extremely handy and saves all that cable bashing onset or at small locations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good soft light I like this light, it provides a soft light with much better CRI than previous Ikans. I find it a bit heavy and bulky, and really wish they had provided separate dials for the light level and color temperature, doing this with the one dial is awkward. But the look it provides has improved my lighting quite a bit.
