Behringer FBQ3102HD overview

  • 1Description

Equally suited to both live and studio environments, the ULTRAGRAPH-PRO FBQ3102HD from Behringer is dual-channel 31-band EQ featuring a proprietary FBQ feedback detection system, a handy tool for identifying problematic frequencies in a room, or for use as an audio analyzer.

Additional hi- and low-cut filters, sweepable in frequency, aid in mitigating unwanted hiss or rumble, while ultra-low noise 4580 operational amplifiers seek to bolster the sonic performance of this unit. Utilizing an on-board crossover frequency selector, a dedicated mono XLR out helps separate frequencies that are more suitable for the subwoofer than the mains. The unit also provides both 1/4" TRS and XLR connection points.

Notable Features
  • 31-band graphic equalizer for two-channel implementation (stereo or dual mono)
  • FBQ feedback detection system for identifying problematic frequencies in a live context, or for use as an audio analyzer
  • Servo-balanced inputs and outputs with 1/4" TRS and gold-plated XLR connectors
  • Additional sweepable hi- and low-cut filter on both channels
  • Ultra-low noise 4580 operational amplifiers
  • Dedicated mono subwoofer output with adjustable crossover frequency
  • 12-segment LED output metering and input gain controls
  • Relay-controlled hard-bypass with an auto-bypass function during power failure (fail-safe relay)

    Behringer FBQ3102HD reviews

ULTRAGRAPH-PRO FBQ3102HD Dual Channel 31-Band Graphic EQ is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Stereo EQ for the price! Have used this model for many years now. It's probably not the best sonically but for real world applications, it does a fine job. If you're looking for a 1/3 octave stereo EQ at a fair price for club work, church, or small PA applications it's a great choice!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You would be hard pressed to find a better souding EQ I'm using this EQ for my personal stereo system. I have it hooked up to a Adcom pre-amp which is attached to a Krell amp. The sound of both components is enhanced with this EQ. I love the adjustability of both channels you have with this EQ. Given the power of the Krell amp the feed back feature is great in helping you fine tune the acoustics in the room. I would definitely buy this EQ again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from very good for headphone equalization I'm using it to equalize my HiFiman HE400i headphones. My hearing is very poor in the treble so I boost there and also below 50 Hz for movie watching. I am very satisfied. The unit is dead quiet. This equalizer is an excellent value

Rated 4 out of 5 by from FBQ3102HD The EQ is musical and can markedly improve sound quality if not approached with a heavy hand. Self-generated noise level is very low on my unit, which is a nice surprise in a unit at this price point, and has not been my experience with competitors' products in this price range. The controls are, of course, pretty intuitive, a minor complaint being that the meter in/out and the bypass switches could have been better labeled. The push button switches feel solid and do not generate switching noises. The sliders are pretty good. They have a reasonably tight feel without a lot of side-to-side lash, and a center detent. They operate quietly and their range is adjustable between plus or minus 6 or 12 dB. Don't expect the silky glide of the faders on a big expensive mixing console. It's an inexpensive EQ after all. The biggest problem with the slides is simply that the throw is so short that it makes small adjustments difficult. For my application (home theater), this is not a big problem because I have the luxury of being able to 'tweak' in a leisurely way until I achieve the general sound I want. I think that on-the-fly adjustments, for example by someone using this for FOH sound reinforcement, would be challenging. But that person probably would probably not buy this unit anyway. It definitely brought some definition and depth to my application, and is, in my opinion, a very good value. If registered, it also has a three year warranty, which is nice. My experience with Behringer products has been that they work very well and seem almost bulletproof - until the moment when they quit working entirely for no apparent reason. For those of you who are environmentally-minded, you may find it irritating (not to mention irrational) that the power switch is located on the back of the unit, so once you have it rack-mounted, it's going to be idling and consuming energy all the time. Bottom line: you get a lot of bang for very few bucks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well, Serves Its Purpose I have this hooked up to my bedroom stereo. I channeled my lossless music player through the FBQ3102HD , then through a basic Sony two channel receiver. Without the equalizer, the system lacks definition. The sound difference made it much better and I may be able to forgo purchasing a more refined amplifier. It's not the speakers (JBL Northridge 8 with titanium-laminate tweeters). I am pleased that this unit was able to make a big improvement in my enjoyment of this little bedroom system. I also want to keep the amp relatively small so I can turn it up fairly loudly without the bass and mids filtering through walls late at night as I live in a townhouse. It's good because it does what I need. I like the fact that it covers the entire audio spectrum, all the way up to 20,000 HZ. I could probably make a small fortune writing directions for Chinese corporations. We should start making stuff here again just to ease that frustration. There are almost no directions for this unit, which is marketed as a Professional unit. As such, I had to learn about connecting the unit with XLR to RCA male connections, there are no RCA connections on the FBQ3102HD or the two other Berhinger equalizers I looked at. The power switch is on the back. It's easy for me to reach, and I don't mind because my hands won't be constantly touching the same spot on the front of the unit to turn it on and off, but depending upon how you have it hooked up to power, it could be a small problem. The Sony receiver lacks any A/C outlets in the back. The FBQ3102HD generates heat so I usually turn it off. It generates even more heat if the little LEDS marking the frequencies are kept on. I had to add felt pads as feet because there are no rubber feet (professional unit). I stuck four double thick felt chair pads on the bottom which works well. In conclusion, I like this model because it has just the right amount of controls and allows the system it is hooked up to to sound its best.
