The STR-DN1070 has six HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs, which all support 4K resolution, HDCP 2.2, and 3D. One output is also ARC-compatible to reproduce TV-based audio such as from your TV's apps. Its front panel has a headphone jack for private listening and a USB port for audio playback from compatible devices. The GUI on-screen display will walk you through any settings you may want to change.
DSD Native Playback
DSD is designed to offer a revolutionary way of capturing and playing back audio. Its sampling frequency is 128 times that of CD, and it offers eight times the data volume of CD to take audio to a whole new level. Different from the PCM format, DSD uses a pulse-density modulation encoding method to store audio, expressing sound through the pulse intensity of a 1-bit digital audio stream that more closely represents the nature of an analog audio waveform. This enables the delivery of analog-like sound coupled with the digital advantages of wide dynamic range and frequency response surpassing 100 kHz. Since the STR-DN1070 supports DSD (Direct Stream Digital) native playback, there is no conversion involved, so DSD content can be fully enjoyed without losing any of its original purity.
Bypassable DA Converter
DSD is designed to deliver audio with an enhanced sense of space and accurate representation of an artist's original vision. By selecting DSD Native playback, DSP processing is bypassed to deliver DSD original purity as-is; but if you prefer, you can select DSP processing with 32-bit DA conversion as well. What's more, multi-channel 5.1 surround with DSD 5.6 MHz delivers an immersive home theater experience in which the advantages of DSD can be appreciated to their fullest.
Non-DSD native playback is also supported, in which DA conversion is performed on the DSP output that has been processed in 32 bits "as is." DSP enables all features to be upgraded by undergoing 32-bit DA conversion.

In-Ceiling Speaker Mode
This feature will virtually relocate your in-ceiling Front and Center speakers to around the screen. Now you will hear their characters' voices coming from the screen instead of the ceiling. This mode also makes music sound more natural and rich in the room with in-ceiling speakers.
Center Speaker Lift Up
Center speakers are typically positioned below the screen, so all centrally located sounds come from below the screen. This feature enables the center speaker to sound as if it's located at the position of the screen. The height of the sound from the center speaker can be raised to a desired height. This works with actual installed front high speakers. The center speaker lift up can be set to 0 (OFF) or between 1 and 10. With a higher setting, the center position is raised, so listeners can customize this function to suit their preferences. This function can be used with A.F.D. mode, which adds no sound field, and movie modes like HD-Digital Cinema Sound and others.

Pre-Amplification Volume IC
The pre-amplifier IC CXD90035 completely separates the ground in the IC and draws it outside of the IC. As a result, interference between each stage is eliminated, enabling high-stability amplification to realize high-quality sound with rich low frequencies. In addition, the internal amplification circuit's new design improves excess properties and reduces distortion for sound with a more open and airy feel.
Enhanced Analog Reproduction
The STR-DN1070 offers enhanced structural stability for better sound via the analog signal path. This circuit is located on a glass epoxy board in order to achieve higher speed and power.
All master clocks for digital audio sources, especially HDMI, can be regenerated from this crystal in pure quality. As a result, the sound produced delivers a clear and rich sound image while bass is deeper and more solid. Typical crystal oscillators are hermetically sealed and filled with nitrogen, but this method is susceptible to external vibrations that can interfere with the clock signal to produce jitter. For the STR-DN1070, a vacuum-sealed crystal oscillator was chosen. This oscillator is further enhanced with gold-plated electrodes. Gold is a well-known material for oscillators, most notably for its property of adhesion to quartz that is strong enough to maintain contact even under strong physical shocks, and not forming oxides that can interfere with conductivity.
Jitter Elimination Circuit
For the STR-DN1070, an ES-type jitter elimination circuit is used for all digital audio sources. It is a combination of analog and digital PLL circuitry. Unlike the conventional method, the target value is not the input master clock, but the timing reference of a precision crystal oscillator. This analog PLL has a high cut-off frequency, following the jitter with low timing reference. In addition, the circuit also has a digital PLL, and the input master clock and VCO are compared by this digital PLL.
Localized Analog Power Supply
The supply-ground path around the devices is voltage regulated locally to ensure that high-frequency elements are minimized, thereby reducing electromagnetic radiation from the circuit and keeping the analog signal path and amplifier circuit noise-free. This design delivers an improved signal-to-noise ratio of digital audio and digital video signals so low frequency sound is more defined with greater purity and reality.
Specially Tuned Electrical Components
Large, custom-made block electrolytic capacitors are used for the main power supply. Selected audio-grade resistors are used in all analog signal paths. Large resistors are used together with the original type at selected critical locations. A bigger body offers less impedance drift from any thermal effect caused by current flow. This helps the amplifier to achieve a higher grade of sound imaging.
Premium Construction for Enhanced Sound
For enhanced audio-visual performance, the STR-DN1070 uses a rigid steel chassis with a frame and beam design to reduce external speaker pressure for more focused sound. All four corners are embossed to better support the weight of the power transformer and heat sink. The heat sink design maximizes air intake into the amplifier circuit, helping to withstand unwanted sound pressure - all combining to deliver enhanced sound.
High-Capacity Power Transformer
A vacuum varnish process achieves flat and even varnishing on internal wiring for the power transformer. Inclusion of both a copper short-ring and steel hum-proof belt around the coil and the core prevents noise leakage. This is designed to provide rich bass and fine reproduction of image detail, plus more powerful bass and lower frequency drive. This level of detail helps deliver more accurate acoustic bass and vocals, offering a new sense of clarity with space.
Heat Sink Design
By studying the fin shape and controlling the uniformity, stable sound can be achieved. The amplifier circuit is able to better withstand unwanted sound pressure.
Digital Circuit Board
The circuit board for the digital stage is secured with metal frames to protect the board from speaker sound pressure. The heat sink bracket takes on the duty of shielding the digital circuit from unwanted radiation and shields the high-impedance circuit in the main body from unnecessary noise, thereby realizing clearer sound quality.
Second-Generation ES Solder
A tin base is mixed with small amounts of other metal elements to create an alloy designed to deliver sound that is responsive and very smooth.
