The Siros 800 L Battery-Powered Monolight is the latest in the Siros series of monolights. Powered by a Li-ion battery, the flash head gets up to 220 full-power flashes on a 70-minute charge. The modeling light is a 25W LED to conserve battery power.

Speed is central to the design of the Siros 800 L. Recycling is a lightning fast 0.03 - 2.7 seconds, while normal t0.5 flash duration is as short as 1/7400 sec. There is also a Speed Mode that bypasses the Siros L's Enhanced Color Temperature Control to prioritize short flash durations and fast recycle speeds. The result is a flash duration of 1/18000 of a second at minimum power: fast enough to freeze water droplets and other stop-action effects. The Siros L has a 9-stop variable power range from full power all the way down to 2Ws. While at higher settings it's possible to out-flash the sun, lower settings allow use of even the widest apertures for your desired effect. All functions are available on the simple, intuitive panel via an ergonomic rotary controller, but you also have access to the menus and controls of up to 6 units using your tablet or smartphone and the free bronControl app.

Siros 800 L features Broncolor HS for syncing at shutter speeds up to 1/8,000s. Broncolor HS requires an RFS2.2 transmitter, available for Canon, Nikon, and Sony cameras. Existing Siros owners should ensure that their lights have the latest user-upgradable firmware, available online at www.bron.ch/sirosfirmwareupdate/.

Siros L is Battery-Powered

A single fully-charged lithium-ion battery stores enough energy for a Siros 800 L to flash more than 220 times, and it does that at maximum power.

Siros L is Fast

In only 0.03 seconds, your Siros L is ready again. The flash duration can as fast as 1/4400 sec (t 0.1) or 1/7400 sec (t 0.5).

Cut-Off Technology

Flash duration and light output are the two decisive factors in light control. A microprocessor in Siros L will calculate the shortest flash duration for a given energy setting.

Speed Mode

In Speed Mode, fast charging and short flash times have absolute priority. In this case, the calculation of constant color temperature (ECTC) is suppressed for quick results.

Siros L is Simple

Very simple operation using the single rotary controller. Alternatively, you can use the advanced, intuitive app.

Siros L is Powerful

The high light output leaves no photographer standing in the dark. It can even challenge sunshine. And with a control range of 9 stops, you can still use wide-open apertures when needed.

Siros L is LED

With its low power consumption, the 25W LED module provides bright modeling light at a color temperature of 3200K. The light characteristics are absolutely comparable with the modeling light from a mains-operated Siros S.

Broncolor Charger for Siros L

The multi-voltage Charger for Siros L from Broncolor charges the Siros Li-ion battery in 70 minutes.

Broncolor Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for Siros L

The Broncolor Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for Siros L charges in 70 minutes and will get 440 400Ws flashes from a 70-minute charge.

Broncolor Umbrella Silver/Black 85 cm (33.5")

Start controlling and modifying your light with this 85 cm (33.5") Umbrella Silver/Black from Broncolor. In general, the umbrella will broaden and soften the light, with larger sizes providing an even softer effect. This model features a reflective silver interior with a black backing to provide a crisper, more focused light, revealing structure and detail in your subjects.

Broncolor Softbox (2 x 2')

This Broncolor Softbox is a 2 x 2' light modifier that creates an even, diffuse light. This type of soft light is useful in product and portrait photography. The amount of diffusion can be adjusted via a removable baffle and front panel. Also, it is able to accept grids and other light modification accessories.

Included with this softbox are four rods for constructing and attaching the box to a light via an optional speedring. Also, it comes with the interior baffle, a front diffuser panel, and a transport bag for storage.

Broncolor Speed Ring for Broncolor Flash Systems

This Broncolor Speed Ring is an adapter for mounting Broncolor softboxes to Broncolor flash systems. It features color coding on the rear face for easily assembling the softbox. The speed ring comes with a soft case.

Broncolor Sync Cable (16')

The Broncolor 16' Sync Cable is a heavy duty cable that allows you to trigger your Broncolor flash head with a hard-wired connection. It has a mini pin at one end and a male PC connector at the other end. Although this is a straight cable, the camera end has a coiled section so that the cable doesn't disconnect or pull over the camera if tugged.

Broncolor Outdoor Trolley Backpack

The Outdoor Trolley Backpack from Broncolor is specifically designed to carry all camera equipment and accessories.

Broncolor 800 L Reviews

Very disappointed

There is an inner metal rim that connects the softbox to the light. Once inserted into the light housing it becomes disconnected from the softbox. So if you want to point the box even slightly downward it falls off. Move it, it falls off. Bump it even slightly, it falls off. Why? was it suppose to be attached (welded) and they missed that? It came with 2 of them - the other isn't having the same issue. I'm guessing it's a design flaw and the other may soon have the same problem.

Heavy monos and flash bulb is fragile.

I've owned the Siros 800-L 2-light kit for almost 3 yrs now. First let me say that they are superb for power and accurate color temp flashes - very consistent. They do not drift like other brands which I will not name here. Other than the quality of light and performance which are positives, I have to state my issues with them that have bothered me the most since owning them. There are only 3 biggest complaints apart from the positives I've mentioned above. The first negative is the weight! Each mono is crazy heavy. I wish it was lighter. It does not work well with my Broncolor Paras because of the weight being so heavy it's extremely difficult to adjust the Para for focusing the light when it's mounted onto the Paras. They tend to want to tip the Paras over if the lights are furthest out in focus position- which is really sad. Secondly, the only other negative part I've experienced is the flash bulbs are super fragile. I've have both bulbs replaced (with low mileage use) simply due to rolling it around in the kit rolling case that damaged the bulbs from bumps. The glass is intact but the issue is that the metal pins connection that attaches into the unit will break if you are not careful handling the units or rolling it around in the travel case. Mind you, these bulbs aren't cheap either to replace at over $200 each. The pins broke off into the unit and was covered under warranty by Broncolor but I had to pay for the new bulbs (which are not covered by warranty). Lastly, the plastic light caps (reflector covers) are flimsy and tend to fall off every time I handle them. They need a redesign. Hopefully the engineer that designed them for Broncolor has been fired. Don't get me wrong these are excellent light sources but If I could do it again, I would go for the Broncolor Move L power pack with the smaller/lighter LED head instead. So there you have it, make a decision based on what you want to use it for and accessories you will put on them. For me, I find that the smaller/lighter heads work better for my Paras. These Siros work best for light umbrellas, simple reflector attachments etc.. not for use with the big Paras like I have. I would trade my Siros for the Broncolor Move system power packs with the smaller LED heads any day!!! I hope this helps some of you out there.

Siros 800 L has definitely met my needs

I did a lot of research on my first monolight/strobe and it came down to Broncolor and Profoto. It was a hard choice, partially because I shoot Olympus and Bron does not make a transceiver for Olympus cameras and Profoto does. I also have a background in different types of design and engineering work and I love me a solid/beautifully made product. In the end I chose to go with the Siros 800 L and its absolutely amazing. Due to not having a compatible transceiver I successfully have it working perfectly with PocketWizard (FlexTT5 and PlusIII), even with HS at 1/8000! The Broncolor iOS app is a big help too! Looking back if I were to do anything differently, I wish I wouldve opted for the two light kit since Im now thinking of getting a 2nd strobe and the kit is a great deal with the extras it includes. If you are considering the Siros for studio or location work, do it! Lastly, I thought about the Siros 400 L as well but the few hundred dollars and slightly smaller body wasnt worth it for me. Ill take the extra power.

Siros L Does It Right! But, ...

I absolutely love this unit: both the light it produces and the almost hands off flexibility it gives me. Being able to carry this much power and quality light around makes location shooting fun! Broncolor also chose to do HS the right way, IMO. There are some things, though, that I hope Broncolor can address in the form of software updates: - Adjustable modeling light output. Full and proportional power settings - Transceiver trigger so I can read the power setting at camera position - If it's portable and costs $2000+ it should be weather sealed - The control area should be better recessed in case of fall. I was lucky mine fell on something soft. Also move the sync socket, mini-USB and mains switch - E-TTL and a Sekonic radio module would be niceties but not necessary

Fantastic light but fragile for travel

So in what is probably an ironic twist is that this battery powered light is amazing but doesn't travel very well. The dish/cap that serves as the protector for the head fits loosely and is plastic. TSA didn't put the head back exactly as I had in my case (not the Bron case) and the dish broke a tab. This meant that the protective glass broke and so did the flash tube. This was a $400 repair. The good news is the flash tubes are less than the Pulso tubes, but the weakness of the primary flash tube protector makes me worry about traveling with them more without figuring out a way to support the head/cap so it won't break again. I think if the cap had a foam disk glued in that would take up the space between the dome and the dish you'd buffer and support the whole thing. You'd then need a way to support the outside dish or give up and use an older style flash head cap. Outside of this teething issue I'm thrilled with the light and will be replacing several packs with more of these heads. The light is traditional Bron which is to say perfect and the heads take the many modifiers that I already own. The battery works great giving very close to the reported number of flashes and the High Speed sync works well on the RFS remote - which is much better than my Pocket Wizards. I found HS significantly cut the output of the strobe when stopping down via shutter but perhaps there's a way to tune that. Nonetheless it worked and being able to adjust the power (which isn't intuitive but is accurate) was a boon when the head was in a Para 10' over my subject. These are the lights location shooters have been waiting for - or at least I've been waiting for. I'd like them to be more durable so they get knocked a star but otherwise they're perfect.

This light has been 100% all i've wanted in a mono light. Dependable, great color, great color, very powerful and portable. Love this light and i'm picking up one more for sure. It's worth every dollar.

Top Notch Gear & Pure Luxury!

These lights are amazing! They are heavy, but the power, speed and color accuracy is pure perfection. The ability for High speed sync is important to me, and the app gives great control and extra modes that you just don't get with cheaper lights. They are expensive, but well worth it. The craftsmanship is great, and the padded bag is beautiful and well designed with quality in mind. The included umbrella and soft box are small and portable, but I do prefer larger modifiers most times. If you can afford it and do a lot of on location shoots. . These babies can turn day into night, and compete with the sun behind your subject. I highly recommend them and B&H! My first set came damaged, but B&H quickly replaced it.

Power and portability that is hard to beat.

Firstly, I am beginning my review with a confession: I purchased my two Siros 800 L monolights used from B&H, not new. Second, I'd like to base much of my review as a comparison between these and the Profoto B1 500 as I have used both and I would say these two models lead the market on battery powered strobe monolights. The most obvious advantage of the Siros is the 800w output over 500w from the B1. If you need the extra output there's really no substitute, this is one of the main reasons I chose the Siros over the B1. The other reason why I bought these was because they already use a frosted glass dome over the flash tube. One of the largest drawbacks of the B1 for me is that to get the best performance with certain light modifiers you need to spend an extra $200 on the Profoto frosted dome per light, which then makes them more expensive than the Siros 800L. But it doesn't stop there either, because when you add the frosted dome on the B1 then you also need to buy a different protective cap that will fit over the dome, and that's another $30 per light. It's also worth mentioning that while both systems batteries are expensive the B1 batteries cost slightly more but are only 44Wh versus the 72Wh of the Siros L batteries. Yet somehow the Siros L batteries can charge just as fast, if not faster, on a 2.5Ah charger (included) than the B1 batteries do on a 4.5Ah charger (not included, cost an extra $235!). So the Siros 800L gives you more output for more triggers and your spent batteries will charge faster, and in the end it will cost you less. There is one advantage I will give the Profoto B1, and that is build quality. When you handle one, you can feel how solidly built it is, all the buttons and knobs are stiff but supple. When you slide in a fresh battery in the B1 it locks in easily and confidently, whereas with the Siros L you practically have to slam the battery in for it to lock. I wouldn't say the build quality on the Siros is bad, but they feel like they wouldn't stand up to harsh use as well as the B1. My one other complaint with my Siros is the slots for umbrellas suck, they just use a bent piece of plate steel as a spring but its way too tight and sometimes I have to use all my grip strength to rip out the rod of the umbrella.

1- Do all broncolor softboxes fit into both Siros S and Siros L? 2- Is the T.1 Flash Duration for both Siros enough to freeze the water splash without blur?
Asked by: Ahmad
The current broncolor softboxes and speed ring (B-33.401.00) fit both Siros L and Siros S, without limitation. The "speed" mode on Siros S specifically will help freeze moving objects such as water with a shortened flash duration, but ultimately comes down to a matter of specific power settings for your subject matter.

The Siros L is not compatible with the Phottix Odin II Transmitter. The Siros L utilizes broncolors RFS2.2 radio system, which is capable of HS flash sync for Canon, Nikon, and Sony camera systems. Previous generations of RFS2.1 and RFS2 (non-HS compatible) will also trigger Siros L.

Can this kit work in the studio with the power outlet instead of using the battery? And is there going to be an education price for this kit soon or later?
Asked by: Xiuming L.
Unfortunately, this monolight system is only for use with a battery and cannot be plugged into AC power. As for student pricing, that would normally be posted on our EDU Advantage home page as the pricing becomes available. It would be best to check back to that page periodically for updates. http://bhpho.to/11A01z5
