The AG-UX90 features a large, 1.0-type MOS sensor that creates a dramatic bokeh with its wide-angle lens, and its focal length with 15x optical zoom ranges from 25.4 to 367.5mm. The camera's 5-axis Hybrid Image Stabilizer provides anti-shake correction for smooth movement, and the 3-ring lens design allows for precision iris/focus/zoom manual control. The shutter system functions in three modes—System, Slow, and Syncro Scan—which allow for shutter speeds from 1/60 to 1/8000 per second. The three-step variable gain switch allows for greater control over brightness and shutter.

question

I was wondering what kind of shallow depth of field you can achieve with the AG-UX90 camcorder in an interview setting with the subject sitting about four feet away from the camera so they can easily read a prompter. How much bokeh can you get?
Asked by: Greg
Depth of Field is an arithmetic calculation based on sensor size, focal length and f/stop. Here is an on line calculator that works well. http://bit.ly/2yr2Vr0In an interview situation, yes, the background is the first item to be selected. All creative decisions come from that choice. To blur the background, try to have the subject as far as possible from the background, have the lens zoomed in and the camera back as far as you can in your space and the what the teleprompter will allow. Lastly, make sure the f/stop is as open as possible. You will have the narrowest possible DOF doing this. However this means you will have to be on your toes with the focus. This is something the blogs rarely if ever mention. You do not want to be in editing and find your subjects ears are in focus but not their eyes. To answer you question, you will get good bokeh if you follow these steps. How much depends on the situation.

question

Does it output 1080p in 30fps via HDMI to record externally? Your specs sheet says only 1080i, but panasonic sales brochure says 1080p. 1080 progressive 30fps would be my format to use and I need to know this before purchase. Thanks!
Asked by: Antti
The AG-UX90 can output at 1080p at 30p as well as 24p, 25p, 50p, and 60p. I will alert the B&H web team about the discrepancy.
