20.2MP CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 4+ Image Processor

The 20.2MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor produces high-resolution imagery that, when paired with the DIGIC 4+ image processor, exhibits notable clarity and sensitivity to ISO 3200, as well as a top continuous shooting rate of 7.1 fps. The sensor and processor work together to create Canon's HS SYSTEM, which is able to produce clear, rich imagery in dimly-lit situations with minimal noise and vivid detail.

Beyond still image recording, the SX620 HS is also capable of recording Full HD 1080p video at 30 fps, which is easily accessible via a dedicated movie button.

25x Zoom Lens and Intelligent Image Stabilization

An expansive 25x optical zoom lens offers a wide-angle to super telephoto equivalent focal length range of 25-625mm to suit working with a wide variety of subjects. This extensive reach is complemented by a versatile Intelligent IS image stabilization system that minimizes the appearance of camera shake for both stills and video shooting:

Stills:
  • Normal IS corrects for a wide range of common camera movements.
  • Panning IS detects deliberate panning movements and does not compensate for lateral movements to permit desired camera movements.
  • Macro (Hybrid) IS corrects for shift-type camera shake that commonly occurs when working with close-up subject matter.
  • Tripod is a dedicated setting that automatically deactivates IS when the use of a tripod is detected since camera-based stabilization is not needed.

Video:
  • Dynamic IS is well-suited to recording at wide-angle focal lengths and reduces unwanted shaking that typically occurs when walking while recording.
  • Powered IS compensates for hand movements that become more visually discernible when working at the telephoto end of the zoom range.
  • Macro (Hybrid) IS minimizes the appearance of shake when walking as well as compensates for shift-type shake that occurs when working with close-up subject matter.
  • Active Tripod IS minimizes the slight amount of shake that can happen when recording video while using a tripod.

Built-In Wi-Fi with NFC

Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows you to wirelessly share your photos and movies with a linked smartphone or tablet as well as remotely control the camera from the mobile device by using the Camera Connect app. A dedicated Wi-Fi button is also featured on the camera body to expedite the process of connecting with a smartphone or tablet and sharing imagery between devices.

Other Camera Features

  • A large 3.0" 922k-dot LCD monitor is available for composing imagery, navigating the menu, and reviewing photos and videos.
  • The Auto Zoom feature helps to maintain consistent compositions and framing accuracy, as well as sharp focus, when working with distant subjects by automatically zooming in or out.
  • Creative Shot modes help to transform your original imagery into creative and unique works using a system of 46 in-camera filters, which are grouped within Retro, Monochrome, Special, and Natural categories. Once the original image has been taken, the camera will automatically produce five additional variations using this series of filters.
  • Hybrid Auto will record short video clips prior to recording a still image, and then automatically compile them into one HD 720p video file to produce a highlight reel of a shooting session.
  • Smart AUTO intelligently selects the proper camera settings based on recognized shooting situations.

Canon SX620 HS Reviews

Not supported by Canon anymore!

Unfortunately I purchased this a few weeks ago. At B&H I was told to get a USB cable to connect it to my iMac because WiFi quality is not good. I just found out that Canon doesn't support any of the current Mac OS for this model. So beware, this is an obsolete model and you're on your own. I'm not getting a memory card reader and spending more money on this. I have been a B&H customer since their old store before 9th Avenue and always been satisfied, but no longer. I'm sorry I ever bought this!

I have used the Canon SX620 HS for almost 2 months and it has performed as I thought it would. It is easy to use and the picture quality is quite good for this type camera. It is compact, lite and adjusts to most all light conditions. My only wish is that could be a little faster is adjusting and focusing on the subject.

I love all the features and it's not hard to figure out. It's quick to take your photography to a new level. It's got everything the big boys have in a compact size. Please read the manual so you can get the most out of your camera. And I love the WIFI! I'm saving my iPhone a lot of pictures.

Good images and yet some things not so much

I haven't had this camera very long and am still learning what it can do. It has faster reaction time in taking the photos and so I am getting better ones when there isn't much time to take the shot. But the buttons and grab bar to hold it are too small and not easy to operate, or to hold it firmly.

Great upgrade to an older PowerShot camera!!

I am very pleased with the purchase of this camera!! I had purchased a Canon PowerShot SD780 IS many years ago and had taken many photos with it and loved how they came out. One day a few months ago I thought I was taking a pic of my 2 kitties, but found out instead I was shooting a video!! I had no idea this camera could shoot video!! When I went to render the video, found out it was in the .MOV format, which creates very HUGE files. So I was wondering if there was another digital camera that could do both photo and video, but have the video produce in .MP4 format, which is a much smaller file than a .MOV format file. I looked up a later Canon model and found the PowerShot SX 620 HS, and that it could do everything I wanted. So I purchased it!! Am getting great photos and videos from it!! Thank you Canon and B&H Photo and Video!!

question

Can this camera be used for taking photos of star tracks at night? Does it have a burst mode?
Asked by: Becky B.
I personally would not recommended the Canon PowerShot SX620 HS Digital Camera for star trail photos. For star trails, it is typically recommended to have a camera that offers manual exposure control so you may set your shutter speed, aperture, and ISO settings separately. The Canon PowerShot SX620 HS Digital Camera does not have this feature. The camera also has a minimum shutter speed of 15 seconds, has a burst rate of 7 fps, and a self timer with a 2-second and 10-second delay, along with a lens with a maximum aperture of f/3.2. While you may be able to find some settings or workarounds that may allow you to to attempt star trail images, you would not have full control over the exposure or results of the image(s). A camera offering more manual control would be recommended for star trail images.
