Axler FCS-1428 Overview

Enjoy the trend towards mobility in the video world? Like being able to carry all your equipment in one bag? Well, here's a major addition to portability, the Foldable Crane Slider from Axler. But, its portability is just one of its features.

You can achieve smooth and steady linear slides, as well as parabolic slides--where the camera pans along with the slide while keeping the subject in frame. And, all this is done by moving a comfortable knob handle to one side or the other. The Foldable Crane Slider is designed for medium-sized DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, and supports a max payload of 4.5 lb.

The slider attaches to your tripod facing forward, slides from the middle to either side a distance of 14", and extends out to 28" from end to end. Using an included ball head, mount your camera on the "Linear" mounting point on the very front of the slider, and move it back to the "Parabolic" position for panning slides. Both positions offer a 1/4"-20 mounting screw. The ball head is compact and made of aluminum, but you can use any other matching ball head if you'd like.

When you're done and ready to pack the slider away, just set the lock into position, and the slider will stay folded in your bag.

The Foldable Crane Slider is made of aluminum and has ABS plastic side panels. It features a 3/8"-16 tripod mount thread on the bottom and works well with standard tripods and hi-hats.

question

Hi, could you please advise a suitable tripod for this......I have a Magnus vt4000 and it doesnt seem suitable. Thanks.
Asked by: Girish D.
The Axler Foldable Crane Slider B&H # AXFCS1428 has a capacity of 4.5 lb Payload (Medium DSLRs/Mirrorless). The Magnus VT-4000 supports 8.8 lb (4 kg). Granted, this is for something centered on on the however, you should be fine if you put a 10lb+ weight hangin on the tripod say a camera bag. If you wish a more robust tripod, you could get this one. Cartoni Focus 8 Fluid Head with Sliding Plate & APTP Tripod (75mm) B&H # CAKF081AM for example. Cartoni is one of the finest names is tirpods and tripod heads.

Do the 1/4” screws come out so I can use a camera mount?
Asked by: Caleb
The 1/4" screws are not meant to be removed from the unit, but almost any ball head mount, such as an Oben BE-117 Ball Head (SKU: OBBE117), can be used along with a 3/8" to 1/4" adapter.

question

Is the amount of counter panning with the parabolic mount point adjustable? If not, whats the distance to the center of the arc?
Asked by: Tim
The parabolic action is not adjustable. Unfortunately, the distance to the center of the arc is not listed. We would say that it is of a distance that is useful for video production. Hopefully someone can test this for us.

question

Hello I would use it with my canon 5d + 24-70 + flid head manfrotto. Exceed the maximum weight, do you think it can be good anyway or breaks down? Thanks
Asked by: Davide
The Canon 5D Maqrk III (for example) weighs, 30 oz and the 24-70mm F/2.8 weighs 28 oz. This comes to 58 oz or 3.625 lbs. This is well within the Axler Foldable Crane Slider 4.5 lbs capacity.

Can it be used sideway to add height to the tripod and still function well?
Asked by: Bill
No, the Axler Foldable Crane Slider doesn't have any mounting points that would enable it to be mounted on it's side, and it is not intended to be operated in such and orientation.
