Apex APEX-MINI-M5 overview

  • 1Description

The Apex Mini Bean Bag (Realtree Max-5) is a compact, water-resistant bean bag that can support lenses up to 500mm, while shooting on safari or just from your backyard porch. The bean bag is designed to go on a car door, window sill, or a tree branch and photograph from that position. The bag eliminates the use of heavy aluminum or plastic window mounts.

The mini bean bag can be inverted to provide stability on a flat surface, by placing the telephoto lens between the bean bag legs, which are covered by a high-tack finish. The bag comes with an aluminum plate with an integrated 3/8"-16 threaded screw at the top, so a ball or gimbal head can be attached to it. The tripod plate can be removed from the bean bag when a tripod head is not in use and the bean bag is used in the more traditional manner. The bean bag has a fill zipper which is protected by a weather-resistant flap. With the fill zipper open you can fill the bag with any material. (The bean bag comes empty.)

An improvement over the Max-4, the Realtree Max-5 camouflage includes more cattails, reeds, cane, twigs and leaves to look very realistic and able to blend into backgrounds such as marshes and open fields.

Apex APEX-MINI-M5 reviews

Apex Mini Bean Bag (Realtree Max-5) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bag this! I am going to use this on my motorcycle handle bars to steady a big medium format camera. The camoflage (sic,) material and the instructions on how to fit your piece goes hand in hand with the gun-pockets of my Reaper black leather vest. All made in America of United States, heavy stitching, metaphorically and not, and it takes alot of beans to ship from the manufacturer without them? Kidney is my choice, as I lost a piece of mine a few years back, and that was without the belt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! I got this bean-bag mount so that I could photograph wildlife from my truck more easily than using a monopod wedged between door and seat. I use it to support a 7D (with grip) and a 400 F5.6L lens. It does a great job and works as described. I've been getting some tack-sharp images since using it! It does take a lot of beans to fill so make sure you buy plenty (I had to make two trips to the store because I didn't buy enough the first time).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Well Made I intended to use this bag for camera stabilization. The first time I used the product one of the carry straps completely separated from the main bag. The fill hole is quite small and impedes efficient filling.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I like it! I purchased the Apex mini for my truck for bird and wildlife photography, you know what they say...your vehicle is one of the best blinds around. I love it, well constructed, nice size for my Canon 7D / 400mm lens. **I filled my bag with plastic Perler Beads** (children craft beads) as I did not want to fill it with any kind of water absorbent beans or rice. But it took about 33,000 beads to fill, but in my opinion worth it. Excellent product

Rated 3 out of 5 by from just ok It might be just the way i used it, but... instead of using beans or rice, i decided to use sand (because i was going overseas and thought that taking agricultural components in other countries might have some issues). Well... the zipper on the bag didn't close tightly enough or something, but the sand was constantly leaking from the bag. that was one of the issues. another issue is that the bag would not stay in place. again, might have been the way i used it, but when i put it around the car door, and put the cameara on top, every move of the camera would move the bag just slightly. and when you need complete stability - it won't do. i will be trying to use the bag again, with some rice/beans in it instead of sand, so maybe it'll work better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great product for the price Provides a stable platform for use in the car window at a fraction of the price of other alternatives. It's the right size and easy to use. Fast setup. Solid support. It includes straps on both sides for tying thngs down. I never quite figured how these could be effectively used on my F-150 truck and they tended to get in the way so I just cut them off. Issue solved.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Beanbag for wildlife I use the Apex beanbag while taking shots of birds and other wildlife. It's so easy to use, just open a car/SUV window and straddle the window sill and place your camera atop and shoot. For longer lenses I use it with a ball head.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a find! I finally found product that I can use to mount my own tripod head, 600mm lens and camera body, on the door frame of my car window and shoot video as well as still images. Taking wildlife photograph and getting publishable images just got a lot easier.
