Sony VPL-HW45ES Overview

  • 1Description

Enjoy 1080p images in vibrant color with the black Sony VPL-HW45ES Full HD Home Theater Projector. Its three SXRD chips are designed to enhance color accuracy, while its 1800 lumens of brightness will ensure that your images are clear even with some ambient light. This projector has 1.6x zoom, so you can place it near the back of the room without losing focus.

The VPL-HW45ES has two HDMI inputs for connecting your digital HD devices such as your HD cable/satellite box or Blu-ray player. It is 3D compatible and will connect to many RF-based 3D glasses. It includes an IR remote control.

Enhanced Full HD Pictures with Reality Creation
Cinema-quality SXRD panel technology is teamed with Sony's Reality Creation processing that refines subtle details, colors, and textures. You'll see the difference with crisp, sharp, Full HD pictures that take you closer to the original 1080p source.
1800 Lumens of Brightness for Vibrant Images
With 1800 lumens of brightness, Full HD images stand out with clear, bright highlights, even in moderately lit rooms.
Select from Nine Picture Calibration Modes
Quickly calibrate the picture to what you're watching or playing. Select from nine picture calibration modes, including two cinema film modes, cinema digital, reference, TV, photo, game, bright cinema, and bright TV. An advanced HSV manual color tuning tool gives you even more control.
Smooth, Fluid On-Screen Action with Motionflow
Coupled with the panel's fast response rate, Motionflow technology means you'll see every detail with minimal blur, no matter how fast the action.
Long-Lasting Lamp
The 6000-hour rated lamp operating life means simpler maintenance with fewer lamp swaps and reduced running costs.
Flexible Home Installation with Wide Zoom and Lens Shift
The manual zoom lens with a 1.6x zoom ratio and wide lens shift range gives greater installation flexibility in any room size, even with high ceilings.
Front-Facing Fan
With the fan exhaust positioned at the front of the projector, you don't need to worry about wall clearance and room for air intake/exhaust when installing. This helps maximize throw distance for the biggest possible projected images.
Home Automation with IP Control
The VPL-HW45ES is compatible with a wide range of home automation systems via RS-232C and IR-in interfaces.
Industry-Standard RF 3D Compatible
The projector's built-in RF transmitter synchronizes with any RF 3D glasses for enhanced coverage and stability, so there's no need for an external transmitter.
USB Updates
You can keep up-to-date with the latest features and firmware updates via the projector's USB port.

    Sony VPL-HW45ES Reviews

VPL-HW45ES Full HD Home Theater Projector (Black) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome projector! Just installed this projector, replacing a Sanyo PLV-70. I have a dedicated home theater and ceiling mounted the projector 17' away from a 136 screen. The setup is super easy, the out-of-the-box settings are awesome. The picture initially had a lot of keystone, but ensuring the unit is level and then using the adjust knobs took care of it. The picture guides are very helpful for setup. The picture is bright, even in low-lamp mode. And what a picture! Excellent detail in everything. Scenes that pan are smooth and natural. Colors are excellent, black levels are impressive. We watched something on NetFlix via a Roku and could easily see things moving in the dark shadows that could not be seen by our previous projector; sort of expect that with BluRay, but was a pleasant surprise streaming a movie. Have not tried 3D, I don't know if it is worth the money to purchase the glasses. Very impressed with this product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolute MUST! I have been purchasing Sony products for over 30 years and this machine is just another reason why I continue to come back. The picture quality in the TV mode is incredible, not to mention dvd's and games. Easy ceiling install and fine tuning. You can't go wrong with this projector.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Throws a pretty picture for the price I installed this VPL-HW45ES in place of a 17-year-old Panasonic PT-AE700U in a living room with a 92 grey screen. The difference in image quality is pretty much what you'd expect from 17 years of technology advancement. It also means that I'm not comparing it directly to any of its contemporaries. Against my old setup, the new Sony is obviously brighter, quieter, sharper, and better at producing dark gradations and vivid colors. It's also free of any LCD-type screen-door effect, delivering on one of the LCoS promises. other PROS: extensive color management controls panel alignment controls (I assume this is software-based, but still very convincing) long throw range with low light falloff at the long end of the zoom range good lens shift range LIMITATIONS: No HDMI-CEC, so you won't be turning it on from your A/V receiver. No dynamic iris. You'd need to pony up the cash for a hw65es for that. Heavy. I was a bit concerned putting this on the same ceiling mount that was holding my last projector which weighed 1/3 of this one. Not 4k. This is an unfortunate time to be buying a projector, since the price jump between HD and 4k is significantly steeper than it is with large flat-panel TVs. No keystone correction. My setup doesn't need it, but it says something about Sony's engineers that they'd rather you suffer some keystone rather than complain about image degradation from some digital correction. Maybe their 3D processing, motionflow, and reality creation routines don't allow for it?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful projector!! Great picture out the box!! No Calibration required I went through 3 different brand projectors from optoma-benQ-epson; all 4K projectors and could not compare to Sony. Sony has the best projector hands down. First the build quality is evident as soon as you love the box and pick it up. It’s super quiet, emits low heat and the picture is so beautiful. Thanks to B&H return policy I was able to return 2 defective optoma uhd65 units without any problems.

how do you play 3D SBS HD Format video?1. I have HDMI OUT from a a. a 3D Blueray Playerb. laptop (I made 3D SBS videos)2. Nvidia stereo 3D glasses
    Asked by: Akiva K.
The player must overlap the 3D SBS HD image before gets to the projector , I had similar issue I thought the projector would process it but it didn't ,once your player ( DVD , Android etc..)overlaps the image your glasses will turn on if they synced already ,Good luck
