YI Technology 90005 overview

  • 1Description

Packing professional performance into a compact, streamlined body, the rose gold YI 4K Action Camera makes capturing all your adventures at resolutions up to UHD 4K fast, fun, and easy. It combines a next-generation Sony CMOS image sensor and Ambarella dual-core processor to support UHD 4K video at 30 fps with a high bit rate of 60 Mb/s. Additionally, it supports 2.5K video at 30 fps, 1080p video up to 120 fps, and 12MP still photos in bursts up to 30 fps. The camera's wide angle lens uses all-glass optics, working in tandem with in-camera image stabilization and lens correction to produce clear images with reduced fisheye distortion typical of many action cameras.

A single control button and rear 2.19", 330 ppi LCD touchscreen gives the camera an intuitive, smartphone-like control interface. Set the camera in auto mode for grab-and-shoot simplicity, or manually adjust settings for more advanced control. Equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi, you can connect to the YI Camera App for remote operation using your iOS or Android device, not to mention fast file transfers, video editing, and sharing. The supplied 1400mAh battery supports approximately 120 minutes of 4K video recording.

Sony IMX377 Image Sensor
The YI 4K is equipped with Sony's IMX377 CMOS sensor, which consumes less power and delivers better low-light performance than the previous generation sensor thanks to large 1.55µm pixels. It supports UHD 4K video up to 30 fps (at 60 Mb/s), 1080p up to 120 fps, and 12MP photos.
Ambarella A9SE75 SoC Processor
The heart of the YI 4K is its Ambarella A9SE75 SoC, 800 MHz dual-core Cortex-A9 ARM processor with 28nm CMOS technology and high-efficiency Digital Signal Processor (DSP). It supports H.264 BP/MP/HP encoding with low-power consumption, even at UHD 4K resolution. The upgraded SoC supports lens distortion correction for the wide angle lens, and offers built-in Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), 3D noise cancellation, and 48 kHz stereo audio.
Electronic Image Stabilization with 3-Axis Gyroscope and Accelerometer
To help fight against vibrations and shaky footage, the camera features built-in electronic image stabilization. It utilizes built-in 3-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer sensors to detect position and motion change, using algorithms to compensate for unwanted movement and produce clearer, more stable looking footage.
7-Element Glass Lens
An all-glass lens comprised of seven elements offers an f/2.8 maximum aperture, for increased light capture and detailed images.
Lens Distortion Correction
Wide-angle distortion is common to many action cameras and often results in a fish-eye like effect. Rather than having to correct this in post-production, the YI 4K eliminates this step by offering in-camera lens correction for reduced distortion and more naturally looking images.
LCD Touchscreen with Gorilla Glass
Enjoy confident image monitoring using the rear 2.19" LCD touchscreen, which features 640 x 360 resolution and 330 ppi density. The LCD is covered by Gorilla Glass for resistance against scratches and daily impacts.
One-Button and Touchscreen Control
Simple and intuitive to use, all features and operation are controlled using a single button and the built-in rear touchscreen LCD, bringing smartphone-like simplicity when changing modes and settings.
Automatically Adjusts to Lighting Conditions
The Image Signal Processor can be set to automatically adjust the frame rate and parameters to produce optimal results whether you're shooting in bright outdoor environments or low-light scenarios.
Manual Settings Adjustment for Advanced Control
In addition to auto-control modes, you can also manually set parameters such as shutter, exposure value compensation, ISO, metering mode, white balance, and more. Nine individual shooting modes are available.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi
The camera features built-in Wi-Fi that supports 2.4 and 5 GHz bands and download speeds up to 30 Mb/s, which means less time spent waiting for your files to transfer and more time shooting and sharing.
YI Action Camera App
Quickly create 6- to 30-second video edits complete with image/video filters and music options using the YI action Camera App, then share them to social media sites and the global YI community on the YI Discover channel.
360° Omnidirectional Dual Microphones
The YI 4K uses dual omnidirectional microphones to record 48 kHz stereo audio, which is recorded in the AAC format. High-sensitivity and high signal-to-noise ratio of the microphones provide clearer audio in noisy environments.
Fast Start-Up
Wake the camera from sleep mode in just one second and start recording by pressing a single button. Even when powered off, the camera can be ready to record in just three seconds.
Efficient Power and Heat Management
The camera uses a 1400mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery from Amperex Technology and a customized power management chip from Texas Instruments to create minimum heat while operating. The innovative heat management design helps release heat quickly to reduce overheating while recording UHD 4K video. A fully charged battery supports approximately two hours of recording time (UHD 4K at 30 fps) and up to eight hours of standby time.

    YI Technology 90005 reviews

4K Action Camera (Rose Gold) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera but could be better with firmware updates! Video quality at 4k with this camera has lots of details! After using the camera at 4k you will think twice before using 1080p again. The spec list comparison between this camera and Hero 4 Black edition does not reveal that Hero 4 Black does 2.7k 2704 x 1520p at 60fps whereas with Yi 4k you are stuck at 1080p if you want to use 60fps. Actually the camera with firmware 1.1.0 can do 2.5k 2560x1920 (4:3 aspect ration!) at 30fps. This is the highest resolution at which you may use the cameras built-in image stabilization and lens distortion correction. Conclusion, its a great camera that need some firmware updates to get the best out of its potential.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This little camera is brilliant I was planning on upgrading from my GoPro Hero 4 Black to the 5 then I found the Yi 4K. The combination of features and performance for price just knocks GoPro totally out of the ring. Every aspect of this camera is spot on. The range of features, battery life, the high def touch screen, the user interface and image quality are all perfect. I am very happy with this purchase

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm Voting For YI! First and foremost...buy a card! The kit comes with a charging cord and a battery, but you have to provide your own card, which is cool because you get to decide how much memory you want and all that. Okay, out of the box; you put in the battery and the card and you turn it on. My battery was already charged so I didn't have any delay there. Experiment a bit on the back screen to see what options you want to play with. Tap the little gear icon and a screen comes up with the most important choice, resolution. I went with 1080/30. Scrolling through to the bottom, you come upon image stabilization and time stamp. I didn't know the time stamp was on, so I got that in the lower right hand of my vids. I turned that off after my first filming expedition :) I experimented with stabilization and it works pretty well if you have the camera hard mounted to you, or maybe on a selfie stick, but it didn't like me holding the camera out in front and walking. Hit the gear icon, now in the middle on the left of the screen and more options come up. The first is lens distortion. I played with that a bit, too, because I'm not a big fan of the fisheye look and I found it worked well...but not along with stabilization. It's one or the other! I'd heard that mentioned in a comparison video on YouTube and found them to be correct. Okay, scrolling down, brightness and volume only apply to the display screen and playback of vids. Alright, further down, you'll find Advanced. Tap that. Screen lock turns off the viewer in the back and Auto Power shuts down the whole cam. I put both of those on Never after I kept losing the back screen picture while I was filming. I thought I was having power issues:) Now, the reason I'm writing all of this is because there's no manual to check everything in. Well, there's a manual on YI's site...but it's in Chinese. Sorry, I can't help any with smartphone apps or wifi. I still look through the viewer:)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The real deal I have purchased a great deal of knock off sports cameras. All claim to be this and that and most are exaggerating to say the least. This one actually shoots very good 4k and all other modes are good as well. The touch screen is sooo much better that all that button pushing it takes to get to the set ups. Love it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera! This action camera is 4x better than a GoPro IMHO. I have used many GoPros but this is the easiest, best action camera I've had the pleasure of working with. I highly recommend getting a cage and/or waterproof case for it though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Improved with firmware updates I originally reviewed this camera over a year ago and at the time it was a good camera with a few issues. Since then Yi has released a number of firmware updates that resolved my issues and added numerous features. Improvements include; an option to set the mic level to either High, Low, or Mute, allowing for goodaudio (for an action cam) in different environments. The camera can now record video at 2.7K/60p at up to 75 Mbps, 4K/24p, and 4K/30p at up to 100 Mbps. You can now shoot RAW photos, but unfortunately not in Photo Time Lapse mode. The only issue I still have with these cameras is that on both of mine the plastic around the tripod mount cracked almost immediately, however, both cameras still work almost a year and a half later. This review is based on the V1.10.4 firmware.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Audio issues at high decibels For many people this may be a 5-star camera, there is a lot to like about it. But for me, it is a 3-star camera. The fatal flaw is the lack of any kind of microphone input, coupled with audio level issues in high decibel environments. The audio is fairly good when the ambient volume is reasonable, however, I shoot motorsports events where it is VERY loud constantly. From my tests it seems at some point, either when the camera is turned on or when the record button is pressed, the audio level is locked and doesn't adjust to changing conditions. I always end up with unusable, blown out audio. The only solution is to use a separate audio recorder and sync it post, which is annoying an cumbersome. In every other aspect this camera excels. With Firmware update 1.3.3 the camera can now shoot 2.7K 60p, 4K 24p, and can shoot long exposure time lapses. The battery life is superb and I love that the camera can automatically detect the video orientation (for upside-down recording). It is fantastic as a dash cam or for taking on trips. For daily, personal use I love this camera, but for my professional purposes (motorsports videos) the audio lets me down every time. I feel my issue could be easily fixed with a firmware update and I've emailed support twice about this issue but it seems there is a language barrier because they have suggested I adjust the volume of the beeps or the wifi settings, both of which have nothing to do with the audio levels in the video.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not without issues Full disclosure. The camera I bought was not from BandH . The camera takes excellent quality video. Sadly the sound stopped completely within a month and because I did buy from the YI site ,they would do nothing about it. I am not the only one with this issue. So before you buy find out who will service it and how much it will cost you to ship to servicing depot. Is there a Yi authorised service center in USA?
