A versatile post-production solution expanding on its raw file processing capabilities, DxO OpticsPro 11 Elite Edition is an all-inclusive application for managing, editing, and exporting imagery. For refining the look of photos, Smart Lighting is an intelligent function that helps to recover details from raw files in order to increase the effective dynamic range in under- and overexposed scenes. Similarly, a Spot Weighted mode has been added to simulate the control of spot metering while shooting, and allows you to prioritize brightness values on specific areas of an image. Updated PRIME 2016 denoising technology also works to preserve detail in exposures made in dark and low-light conditions where excess image noise can be distracting. By sampling and averaging neighboring pixels, noise can be significantly reduced while maintaining subtle details and color fidelity in shadows, gradients, and out-of-focus regions. Also helping to purvey clarity, DxO's ClearView is a dedicated function to reduce the appearance of atmospheric haze using an intelligent and automated process to replace the need for masks and selective editing techniques.
Beyond the range of tools dedicated to enhancing clarity and detail, OpticsPro also makes use of the vast amount of research DxO has put into testing cameras and lenses, and provides more than 30,000 optics modules to improve image quality specifically in regard to certain camera and lens combinations. These modules work to correct various aberrations and distortions, and a Lens Softness tool also helps to improve overall sharpness. Dedicated red-eye correction, anti-moiré, and color rendering tools are also available, along with a rich set of tools dedicated to printing photographs, including managing ICC profiles for consistent color accuracy.
Smart Lighting and Spot Corrections
An intelligent exposure recovery technology, Smart Lighting helps to uncover greater detail in under- and overexposed regions of an image in order to gain a greater dynamic range when working in difficult lighting situations, such as backlit conditions. Additionally Selective Tone controls allow you to refine brightness ranges to render more natural-looking imagery without affecting the mid-tones via dedicated Shadows and Highlights sliders.
Also helping to produce well-balanced brightness and contrast values in imagery, a Spot Weighted mode has been added that serves to mimic spot metering precision in camera with the ability to fine-tune results during post-production. This mode uses raw image data and can prioritize brightness values on smaller regions of an image while maintaining a natural appearance about the rest of the image. Smart Lighting, similarly, uses face detection technology to apply an intelligent tone map across the entire photo to balance exposure and contrast while prioritizing brightness on recognized faces.
PRIME 2016 Denoising Technology
Helping to preserve detail when minimizing the appearance of digital noise in both JPEGs and raw files, PRIME 2016 denoising technology works to maintain faithful color saturation in shadow regions to produce more realistic and pleasing results despite working in dark and difficult shooting conditions. This technology works to average different pixel values, and samples the image using nearly a thousand neighboring pixels in order to identify similarities and recombine information to produce cleaner image quality with retained detail and sharpness.
The update to this technology also helps to preserve bokeh and gradient transitions in imagery, as well as details and subtle color nuances in shadow regions in order to maintain consistent quality with lower noise imagery. An optimized algorithm also realizes faster performance and shortened processing times.
Designed to optimize specific camera and lens configurations, DxO provides access to more than 30,000 optics modules to enhance the look of imagery in regard to reducing visible aberrations and distortions caused by certain equipment combinations. Manual adjustment is also possible, to reduce barrel, pincushion, and fisheye distortion; vignetting; chromatic aberrations, and lens sharpness. Specific to sharpness, a Lens Softness tool has also been implemented to harmonize sharpness across the image field for consistent acuity from edge to edge.
Dedicated to minimizing the effects of atmospheric haze, this unique tool increases clarity and contrast within an image that has been affected by hazy conditions. Especially beneficial to landscape photographers, or those working in long-field situations, this tool helps to alleviate unwanted diffusion of light that becomes more noticeable as the subject distance increases. The process is completely automated, and replaces the need for selective, mask-based corrections, and analyzes a variety of color elements within a photograph to create a depth map of the image, enhance black levels, and maintain accurate ambient color values and smooth tonal transitions.
A series of one-click presets are available to creatively adjust the look of imagery, regardless if the image is a portrait or landscape; black & white or HDR. Atmospheric presets can also be used to impart unique desaturation and color filter effects. Presets are accessible via a floating palette, and the results can be previewed in thumbnail form. Additionally, customized looks can be created using the presets editor, the specific settings can be saved for later use, and presets can be applied to groups of imagery using a batch processor for a consistent look.
For immersive viewing of imagery while retaining access to useful metadata, a full-screen viewing mode helps to remove unwanted distractions while browsing photo libraries. This makes it easier to rate, label, and tag images for subsequent editing, and maintains the ability to work with keyboard shortcuts for quickly sorting through vast numbers of files.
A red-eye correction feature has been added that makes use of both face- and eye-detection capabilities, and automatically identifies red-eye and corrects it in a batch process.
Anti-moiré helps to reduce unwanted colorful patterns and aliasing that commonly appear on fine and high-frequency textures.
Benefitting from DxO's equipment calibration and profiling, consistent color rendering is possible regardless if you choose to maintain the same color profile as recorded by your camera or choose to use an alternate color rendering profile to match other series of photos.
Saturated colors can be maintained during adjustments to brightness and contrast in order to draw out greater detail and protect color fidelity.
ICC profile management is available to maintain consistent colors from capture to print.
One-click dust spotting can be used to eliminate specks or marks in imagery caused by dust on your lens or sensor. This tool can also be used in batch-processing to eliminate dust on groups of imagery.
Images can be sorted using various criteria, such as camera type, ISO value, processing status, and virtual copy number.
Printing is possible from OpticsPro 11, with the ability to produce both large-scale prints as well as contact sheets with full control over printing layout, color profiles, rendering, sharpness, the inclusion of metadata, and more.
When working with Mac OS X operating systems and compatible hardware, full support of Retina displays is afforded for high resolution viewing.
