With its flat microphone array and sophisticated DSP, the black AM-1 Real-Time Steerable Array Microphone Set from Toa Electronics tracks and captures voice clearly & uniformly, freeing the speaker to move comfortably and speak naturally. It is well suited for addressing audiences in houses of worship, conference halls, live theater, and a variety of other venues.
The microphone incorporates eight cardioid condenser microphones arranged in a linear array that provides a narrow pickup pattern of approximately 50° horizontally by 90° vertically. The built-in detection and tracking sensor steers the microphone beam angle automatically in real time, extracting voice from ambient noise, reducing feedback to a minimum, and compensating for volume variations. The enables the speaker to move back and forth in the vicinity of the podium, turn or tilt to address different sections of the audience, or gesture naturally without concern for the location of the microphone.
Less than 1" high, the AM-1 can be placed unobtrusively on top of a podium or table without obstructing the line of sight and without being visible to cameras. It features a touch-sensitive on/off mute switch and rubber isolation pads that reduce the transmission of vibrations. The microphone can also be mounted to a wall or ceiling by an optional mounting adapter available separately.
The control unit houses a preamplifier, a D/A converter, and a volume-control knob. It offers an AES/EBU digital output and an adjustable analog output capable of providing a +4 dB professional level, a -10 dB consumer level, or a -50 dB microphone level.
Additionally, the control unit can be networked to a PC or Wi-Fi adapter via the Ethernet port. The dedicated Graphic User Interface (GUI) allows for the monitoring of sound-source tracking status and setting of parameters from any networked PC or device using a web-browser interface, or wirelessly through the iOS app (available separately as a free application).
