Wish Canon had 100% micro prism screens like the old Nikon H series screens—those were wonderful. That being said, I found this difficult to use at 5.6 as it would darken and thus loose its ability to see and focus clearly. Worked fine with f4.0 and faster lenses. As a result, I will go back to one of the brighter matte screens again which offers more flexibility, even if it doesn't offer a focusing aid.
I had purchased this focusing screen to assist me in manually focusing my TS90 lens which is manual focus only. I have really horrid vision and manually focusing through the viewfinder is hit or miss for me. After reading Canon's review of focus screens I opted to give this relatively inexpensive tool a try. What I love about it is the matrix that appears when the focus spot is out of focus, even I can see it! The screens are very easy to change with the included tool. One thing I would love to see is to have the matrix move along with the focus point, but I don't think that's physically possible.
Very good product
This is a replacement screen for the original. Easy to install
I've discovered that my old manual focus Nikon AI-S lenses work perfectly on my Canon EOS 1Ds camera. I use Cinivate Nikon-EOS lens adapters, bought from B&H. Because there is no electronic communication between these lenses and the camera I have to manually focus and shoot in aperture priority mode. The EC-A focusing screen works great for this purpose. I have also tried the EC-B screen and can't decide which one I like best. They both work great.
