Available for download, Chris Hein Solo Violin from Best Service is a virtual instrument powered by the included Native Instruments Kontakt Player to give you the sound of—and precise control over—a solo violin. This 4GB library comprises over 10,000 samples, affording you 38 articulations, four different types of legato transition, and phase-alignment of all samples to provide smooth, inaudible crossfading among eight separate velocity layers.
In addition to the usual articulations such as legato and portamento, Chris Hein brings you special effects and more esoteric articulations, allowing experimental musicians and film composers to explore the possibilities of flautando, flageolets, and ponticello. The special effects provided are bolstered by an internal DSP rack housed within the Kontakt instrument. This sample library is compatible with both Mac and Windows platforms. It can run in standalone mode, or operate within VST, AU, or AAX formats.
Close Mic'd Samples
All samples have been close mic'd for the driest sound possible, and the two impulse responses power two different reverbs allowing you to adapt the instrument within Kontakt into a variety of contexts
Ensemble Maker allows you to double a violin part by triggering multiple articulations at once, manipulating the stereo image, and finely detuning copied signals for a naturally diverse sound
Modular Approach to Articulation
You can load the instrument with the clean-start configuration—which instantiates a sustained articulation—and then add playing styles and functions as need be; this saves on CPU and boosts productivity/efficiency
This function offers a selection of 102 attacks, thus matching twelve short sample variations with each sustain-articulation; this better approximates the timbre of real violins, for which the intended note length often influences the attack behavior as well as the note's end
True legato in up to four dynamic layers provides short and long note variations
