Synology DS216+II Overview

Built with a dual-core processor, an AES-NI hardware encryption engine, Btrfs file system support, and 4K UHD video transcoding, the DiskStation DS216+II 2-Bay NAS Enclosure from Synology is a high-performance 2-bay NAS server designed for small office and home users who want an efficient and secure storage solution to help protect and share data, as well as enjoy on-the-fly video transcoding. It is equipped with two drive bays that are capable of supporting 3.5" SATA III 6 Gb/s and SATA II 3 Gb/s hard drives, as well as 2.5" SATA III 6 Gb/s and SATA II 3 Gb/s hard drives and SSDs. Using its two drive bays, this NAS will allow you to store and share a large number of files, including videos, music, photos, and documents with up to 2,048 user accounts and 256 maximum concurrent connections.

The DS216+II runs on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) OS, which is a browser-based operating system which helps to simplify managing your Synology NAS. Its CPU is a 1.6 GHz Intel Celeron N3060 Dual-Core (64-bit) with a burst speed of up to 2.48 GHz and its 1GB of DDR3 RAM allows frequently-used files and applications to be quickly accessed. The NAS is capable of achieving read and write speeds of over 111.78 MB/s, as well as encrypted read speeds of over 113.01 MB/s and encrypted write speeds of over 111.66 MB/s. It features one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, and one eSATA port which allow it to be connected to your Windows, Mac, or Linux system. Network connectivity is achieved via its integrated Gigabit Ethernet port. Data may also be made remotely available through the free iOS and Android applications.

For those who require RAID support, the DS216+II supports RAID 0 and 1, as well Synology Hybrid RAID and Basic RAID, each of which offers performance, data redundancy, or a combination of both. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD is also available, allowing each drive bay to be individually utilized.

The DS216+II is engineered to be energy efficient. The DiskStation DS216+II 2-Bay NAS Enclosure operates on 100-240 VAC at 50/60 Hz and includes an accessory pack, a 60W AC power adapter, an AC power cord, and a LAN cable. It is protected by a limited 2-year warranty.

File Center
File Station is a fast and secure feature for sharing and managing your files stored on the DS216+II. Just drag-n-drop and upload data from your Mac or PC. Advanced filters make it easy to search for documents, photos, or videos. With built-in FTP or email clients, the DS216+II lets you organize and share files through an advanced web application. You can even share files and folders with others by simply sending a link. Files can be reached on mobile devices via the companion mobile app DS file. HTTPS, SSL/TLS encryption, and link expiry dates also ensure file sharing over the Internet is highly secure
Compatible Sharing
Enjoy seamless files sharing across Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms, as the DS216+II offers comprehensive network protocol support including FTP, SMB2, AFP, NFS, and WebDAV. With Windows AD and LDAP integration, the DS216+II can fit into almost any existing network environment - there is no need for IT administrators to maintain two sets of credentials. You also won't worry about missing files with the Recycle Bin feature which is supported on AFP, CIFS, File Station, and WebDAV. All files deleted in a shared folder will be automatically moved into the Recycle Bin
Backup Solution
The Synology DS216+II can serve as a centralized backup target. Whether you are a Windows or Mac user, you can back up everything on your computer directly to Synology NAS using Cloud Station Backup. Whenever you modify a file, the changes are backed up to the DS216+II automatically. Mac users also enjoy native Apple Time Machine support. You can also back up data from your DS216+II to another DiskStation, rsync servers, external drives, or even Amazon S3, Glacier cloud service, Microsoft Azure, SFR, and hicloud. Synology Hyper Backup allows you to schedule backup tasks and restore the server to any particular point in time, while minimizing storage consumption and processing time by saving only the specific data block that has been changed between versions
Cloud Solutions
With comprehensive cloud solutions, the DS216+II lets you create your own private cloud. Cloud Station is a package to sync files across multiple devices. Files can be edited in offline mode and later synced to a Cloud Station, which keeps up to 32 historical versions, allowing you to restore a file back to previous version or recover deleted files. With the mobile app DS cloud, any change made to a file is automatically synced to your smartphones and tablets. For distributed enterprises, Synology's 2-way sync between different DiskStations ensures employees at different locations share the same information in real-time. IT administrators can handpick individual folders that they want to sync to different devices, manually or automatically based on file format and size. Folders synced by Cloud Station can be encrypted on DSM - no one will be able to access its content without your private key

Security Advisor analyzes system settings, password strength, network preferences, and removes any possible malware. AppArmor blocks malicious programs from accessing unauthorized system resources.
