Lunt Solar Systems SUNOCULAR YELLOW Overview

  • 1Description

Engineered for safe solar observation, the yellow 8x32 White Light SUNocular Binocular is equipped with CE-certified internal dye objective lens filters with an optical density of five to bring the light intensity down to a safe level while also effectively filtering damaging ultra-violet and infrared radiation. Looking at the Sun with this optic transforms our blazing ball of white fire into a pleasant orange color. The combination of magnification and objectives allows you to easily observe all phases of eclipses, planetary transits, and sunspot activity.

With its compact form-factor, the SUNocular will easily fit in most pockets, packs, or bags without weighing you down. A rubberized textured grip provides sure and secure handling, and the large center focusing knob and right-eye dioptric correction allows users to compensate for their individual prescriptions to achieve precision focusing. In the even that eyewear is needed to see - like sunglasses or corrective lenses - twist-up eyecups allow this optic to be used comfortably with or without eyewear. Lunt recommends that this be used by young adults over the age of 13 with parental supervision to prevent permanent eye damage that can occur by observing the sun without the proper protection.

Lunt Solar Systems SUNOCULAR YELLOW Reviews

8x32 White Light SUNocular Binocular (Yellow) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 92.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from SUNocular Binocular (Black) Active Sunspot region 2665 is on the solar disc in the upper right quadrant of the sun. It produced an M2.4 solar flare early in the day on July 14th. I was able to see the main spot region using my Black SUNocular Binocular and I was Very Favorably impressed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Fine - Good Value. First I gotta say B&H did a GREAT job. I had my White Light binoculars within a couple of days of ordering. Given my order was so close to the 2017 Solar Eclipse, I doubted I would see the item for weeks..and the shipping to Canada was free. Well done!! The binoculars are exactly as advertised. Pretty light weight, but perfect for viewing the Sun. Product quality seems pretty well made and feels solid. I give this a 4 out of 5 stars because the optics aren't exactly awesome. I don't want to take away from the functionality because they work JUST FINE. However as an astronomer, I noted the fairly obvious optical chromatic aberrations. Manifesting as multi-coloured (Usually Red and Green) around the edges of the Solar Disc. But again, this is does not inhibit the product from doing exactly what it's advertised to do, and giving me a very clear image of the solar surface. I would recommend it to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great tool for the solar eclipse i bought these solar binoculars for my adult children to watch the upcoming complete solar eclipse. they love them, the weight, the feel, the quality and the fun color. we checked them out before the eclipse and they work great. it's a splurge but a very special tool to have to enjoy any solar gazing in the future safely. just a note, unfortunately the sun filters cannot be removed to convert to regular binoculars. these are only for direct sun event viewing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth it Bought these for the eclipse on August 21. I purposely tried them out beforehand to view the sun, and I was happy with them. I could very clearly see the moon creeping in front of the sun, then blocking it up to 75% (the maximum coverage we had in my area), and finally moving away. I was even able to make out sunspots, though they are small and require the binoculars to be properly focused. I may not use these again till the next eclipse, but I still think they were well worth it for the magnification compared to using disposable glasses or a pinhole projector. Box says they can be used for transits, so I may use them again at some point for that also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent product that will be used for years I bought these binoculars when the eclipse glasses I had already purchased from the enormous web merchant that shall remain anonymous were declared potentially unsafe. I was ordered to not use them, with the eclipse less than 1 week away! A frantic web search brought these to my attention. I had used B&H before so that alone instilled a sense of security with me. I researched the manufacturer and they had a good reputation. So I bought them. And I did not regret my decision. They were well made, comfortable to hold, and provide a crystal clear image of the sun. I anticipate using these again for any solar events that may show up.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Sun Binoculars This item looks and feels like a good binocular, but with the sun filter, the only image that you can see is the sun itself (and maybe a welding torch?), so it is hard to evaluate the optics. I used it for the recent partial eclipse and it appeared to give a clear image. BUT an 8X binocular has a viewing width of about 6.5 degrees, and the sun subtends about .53 degrees, so these binoculars don't give you a very large image. After using these, I would recommend nothing less than a 15X binocular, and preferably a 60X scope (with a suitable filter.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much Better Than Expected ! We own binoculars ranging in cost from two hundred to well over three thousand dollars, so I didn't expect much from these. They arrived yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised by their build quality and optics. Last night we watched the setting sun. SAFETY NOTICE: We all have a tendency to pull binoculars away from our face when are finished looking or passing them to someone else, but it is important with these to first close your eyes or you'll be staring straight at the sun. Even though it's only for a split second it's not good. So practice closing and averting your eyes while these binoculars are still attached to your face. Fortunately, the sun was heavily filtered at the horizon due to smoke from numerous lightning-caused wildfires inland from us, but I still saw center-vision dark spots on the ceiling for several hours during the night, and I hadn't accidentally looked at the setting sun for more than a tenth of a second or so at a time. It feels unnatural to close your eyes before moving the binoculars, but you must do it. While we bought these to view the eclipse, they are good enough to check out the sun every day. Subjectively, the sun appears about the size of a quarter (a US 25-cent piece). Although it has a tripod socket behind a little knurled knob with the image of a cactus on it (the company is based in Phoenix, Arizona), none of the binocular tripod L-adaptors I have on hand are narrow enough to fit in the small space between the optical barrels of these binoculars. That's my only complaint. I plan to buy a smaller L-adaptor and grind down the sides of it to see if I can make it fit. For the price these are excellent solar binoculars and not just for viewing the eclipse. I'm glad I bought them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will work well for the upcoming eclipse Binoculars are well made and easy to use. I bought bright yellow ones to avoid any chance of confusing with regular binoculars. when looking at the partial eclipse phase
