Sima SL-300LXi overview

  • 1Description

Sima's SL-300LXi On-Camera LED Light features 64 daylight-balanced LEDs that produce 800 lumens of light. It is designed to mount onto your camera's accessory shoe and illuminate your subject, or you can use it off of your camera for directional key/fill light. The fixture features an on/off power switch and a dimming switch that cuts the brightness in half.

Included with the light are a diffusion filter and an orange filter that will bring the color temperature of the output closer to tungsten, so you can use the fixture with either daylight or tungsten balanced sources or conditions. Power for the light is via four AA batteries. The light incorporates a cold shoe mounting foot, which combined with the unit's small size allows you to mount it to virtually any camera. An included universal bracket enables off-setting the light from your camera for a less flat lighting look.

The fixture is powered by four readily available AA batteries, so you don't have to stop shooting and recharge the light.
Mounts to virtually any camera with a hot/cold accessory shoe.
The built-in dimming switch instantly cuts the brightness of the light by 50%.

    Sima SL-300LXi reviews

    SL-300LXi On-Camera LED Light (5300K) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from A decent, small output, camera mount light. This light came as part of a bundled offering, so I did not actually purchase it - but now that I have it, it seems to be a competent item. It's small and light, so it's good on small mirrorless cameras. It has an ok output. the color clarity appears to be reasonably good and you can change the provided diffusers from tungsten to daylight very easily. The mount, which places the light to the side - is a smart design move. I have a feeling I'll wind up using the light more off the camera than on - for little fills, as needed. It's size and weight make it easy to keep in a bag -which is half the battle.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The lights shines, but unrefined I've used this for still photography, and the two power settings do work, however a dimer wheel would provide more refinement. The half/full switch on the back is inconsistent between units - on one, pushed in gives you brightest light, on the other, pushing it in dims the light. The push buttons on the back don't stay in position reliably (multiple attempts to get them to stay). Finally, the amber/clear covers for the front are difficult to take off. One of my lights is basically perma-amber now, as I can't get the cover off. Overall, it makes light, uses a lot of batteries - 4AA's per unit - and the fit and finish is a bit lacking. For what I paid, I'm ok with them, but a bit of searching could probably yield a better product for the money.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plenty bright. A bit clunky & heavy. I bought this for my Fuji X-E1. I had originally bought the smaller version, but it was out of stock so they sent me this larger one instead. It does a very good job, but is a little bigger than looks really good on the Fuji. I'm not sure the smaller one has enough brightness, though. All in all, this does its job well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredibly powerful for a small LED I wasn't expecting much out of a 64 LED on camera light, but boy was I surprised! This little baby punches out great light and runs pretty long on 4 AAs, which I always carry a ton of. The only negative is the power output which only offers 100% or 50% via a button instead of a variable switch. Overall great value.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not very bright I had hoped to use this LED light on my DSRL. Unfortunately it is not very bright. I was able to use it on a camcorder shooting close-ups and it worked OK. But I think it's only good for about 6 feet from a subject. It was well priced and appears to be fairly well constructed. It just isn't bright enough...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK for the price I purchased this at a discounted price. First one I received was DOA. Power switch had to be held in. Switch problem with which replacement worked OK for a while, now it remains on full power only. Close up lighting is pretty good. Direct mount on camera is adequate, but the offset bar is flimsy. Also works well as a flashlight to see into tight locations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lots of Light - Low Price For this price you really can't beat it. The light throws a lot of light and costs about $15. Definitely nice to have handy as a videographer. If I would have paid more I would have been disappointed that there isn't a dimmable wheel function instead of just a high/low setting. For this price though it isn't an issue.
