Canon PRO-2000 overview

  • 1Description

Create stunning photographic prints with the imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 24" Professional Photographic Inkjet Printer from Canon. Able to handle media up to 24" wide and with a maximum resolution of 2400 x 1200 dpi, users will be able to create high-quality documents and graphics with sharp text at exceptional sizes. In order to deliver prints with speed and consistency the PRO-2000 has a few tricks up its sleeve, including Canon's FINE technology with a 1.28"-wide 12-channel print head, a twelve-color LUCIA PRO pigmented ink set with Chroma Optimizer, a high-precision mechanical platform, and the L-COA PRO high-speed image processing engine. This design also means that there is no switching required when working with matte black or photo black inks. Additionally, this model offers a built-in color densitometer that uses a three-color LED and condenser lens to ensure peak performance.

The PRO-2000 utilizes a Sub-Ink Tank system to squeeze every last drop out of your cartridges along with providing smooth swaps even in the midst of a print job. An integrated 320GB hard drive furthers the unit's capabilities by allowing it to work with large documents easily. For operating the device, a large 3.5" color LCD touchscreen is available and a directly available USB port permits printing from a thumb drive. Additionally, this printer has wired and wireless networking thanks to both Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity and it has USB 2.0 for a simple connection to a computer.

12-Color LUCIA PRO Ink Set
Using a twelve-color system of pigment-based inks as well as a Chroma Optimizer, this set will deliver vivid images with clear details along with enhanced gloss uniformity, improved scratch resistance, better reproduction of dark areas, and reduced graininess.
PF-10 Print Head
A PF-10 1.28"-wide print head with 18,432 nozzles and anti-clogging FINE technology allows for fast, precise printing that is checked by 27 individual sensors. For improved performance, this system uses 12 channels with twelve colors, resulting in fast print speeds and no ink switching required when working with both matte and glossy media. The print head is also wider than earlier models, allowing for the printer to only need one and achieve a more compact design.
L-COA PRO High-Speed Image Processing Engine
Utilizing three processing chips, the PRO-2000 can precisely manage large image files and control ink layout for optimal performance and high-resolution prints.
Color Calibration
Featuring an integrated color densitometer with a three-color LED and a condenser lens, users will be able to recalibrate the PRO-2000 at nearly any time to ensure consistently colored prints. The Device Management Console software furthers your abilities by enabling calibrations and checking of print statuses up to 50 units from a remote location.
Optional Multifunction Roll System
This optional system enables a second roll of media to be loaded or to set up a bi-directional media take-up unit. The dual-roll feeding mechanism allows media of different types or sizes to be loaded at once for fast swapping or simply having two of the same rolls for high-volume jobs. A bi-directional rewinding method allows users to set up the second roll as a take-up unit and users can choose whether the printed surface is on the inside or outside of the roll.
USB Direct Printing
An accessible USB port permits the use of a thumb drive for direct printing of PDF and JPG files without the use of a computer.
Sub-Ink Tank System and Large-Capacity Cartridges
The Sub-Ink Tank System lets users squeeze every last drop of ink in the tank before needing to replace it, also enabling cartridge swaps in the middle of job without any issues. The PRO-2000 also accepts large-capacity cartridges from the PFI-1100, PFI-1300, and PFI-1700 series with capacities of 160mL, 330mL, and 700mL, respectively.
Multipositional Basket
The basket can be freely adjusted as a catch basket, for flatbed stacking, and as a slope for print display.
320GB Hard Drive
Holds job data in protected storage to alleviate the workload on the PC or Mac and allows for easy access from remote workstations.
Print Studio Pro Software
Produce large-format photographic prints with ease with Print Studio Pro software which helps streamline your workflow. This 16-bit software is compatible with Digital Photo Professional, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Lightroom and features roll paper preview mode, contrast reproduction, batch edits, Favorites settings, and the ability to print multiple images on one page.

    Canon PRO-2000 reviews

imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 24" Professional Photographic Large-Format Inkjet Printer is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply Amazing This printer is unreal. The prints are gorgeous and consistent. The interface is easy to use. The management tools made setting up a system (although time-consuming initially) effortless. I really could go on about how satisfiedI am with it. If I had one gripe, it would be that there is no light shining on the line on the inside where you line up cut-sheet paper. But if you're printing that much cut-sheet paper this printer might not be for you. If you plan on printing oftenand want a reliable high capacity printer, this will not disappoint.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very nice printer Just installed the printer and love the quality of the prints. The Print Service Pro app that ties the printer into PS and LR is great and very easy to use. The management tools provided by Canon are also great. I do have to say it was a little difficult getting to this point - not big problems but things that hopefully will improve with more shipments. The process via B&H was excellent. However, the delivery company missed the first delivery day that they committed to and said it was because they did not realize it need a truck with a lift gate. They did get it delivered the next day. Once here and unpacked I realize just how big this unit is (it replaced a 21 HP and while it doesn't weigh a lot more it is very awkwardly dimensioned ) and that there was no way I was going to get up the steep stairs to my office given how it has to be lifted and cared for in moving it. Quick plan to put it a downstairs room. Then a couple of problems with getting it up and running - one software and one hardware. The software problem took about a day to resolve and I tribute that to not finding the issue in the online manual (about 865 pages worth) and the fact that the help desk was not familiar with this product yet (my serial indicates about 100 units manufactured so far). The hardware problem required a repairman who got here the next day and had the unit up and running fairly quickly given that he had never seen this model before. In terms of print quality I'd give it 5 Stars but it terms of ease of start-up I have to limit it to 3 Stars given my experience thus far. I see no reason why those startup issues would continue and I expect it to run without problems -- however, obviously, time will tell. I am happy that I bought the unit and look forward to being very happy user over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Canon Wide Format Printer are the way to go. Ordered printer on Sunday afternoon, got it Thursday morning. Set up was very easy and first prints looked great. I replaced a Canon 6100 printer with the Pro 2000 and glad I stayed with Canon. It's bigger than the 6100 but seems to be built better. So far ink usage with set up inks has been good. Printed almost 75 8x10's and a few wider prints and ink usage has hardly moved.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from You can do cut sheets but you won't want to. I have both the Prograf 1000 and 2000. The Prograf 2000 does a terrible job with cut sheets. You can't print on the trailing edge. No borderless printing! There's no side or front stops when you're loading paper so you have to manually eyeball the paper and move it around to line it up. Then you have to hold the paper in place while you use your other hand to engage the lock lever. There's no light under the top cover so when you lift the cover to load a sheet it's very difficult to see the markings. Canon support gave me bogus specs on the size of the box. It's sits on a wooden pallet that's wider than the box. It's so wide you have to physically remove the printer from the box/pallet to get it inside. The cardboard lid is 33W x 50L x 35H (inches) With the wooden palette, the overall size increases to 36W x 53L x 41H. It's really not a whole box and a pallet. You can't just separate the pallet and get it inside. I'm not a big guy. The delivery guy said I did my job, see ya and left. So I had to figure out how to get a 300 pound printer inside by myself. You really do need 4 people to get it onto the stand. If you rely on cut sheets and don't need anything bigger than 17 inch wide, go with the 1000. It's a little slower but the print quality is just as good. Ink carts are smaller. I use the 1000 80% of the time. I had originally planned to deactivate the 1000 once I got the 2000. That's just not going to work. The 24 inch seems faster but I haven't timed it. I also recommend buying the multi-roll attachment. I plan to have 17 and 24 inch rolls in the printer. The paper basket is not the best either. Hard to believe the 2000 is sooo bad with cut sheets. Just an LED under the top cover would help immensely.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not happy with Canon. Product arrived damaged. Next day service from Canon was 2 days. Subbed out work. Canon service person 4 days later. We'll see. Printer does print but has issues. Made 4 prints and a low ink warning already. Can see roller marks in dark areas of print. Colors are off. Not happy with photoshop. Using their software to print & do not like it. Not intuitive at all. If it wasn't so big, it would be back on it's way to B and H. Now waiting for Canon. Doesn't work with WIFI. Computer can't find printer and so on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed with the quality of Photo Posters I read every review I could find on this printer before making the purchase. I wanted a printer to print high quality 24x36 inch posters. It does an amazing job! I am using the CanonPremium Rc Photo Luster Paper. Ave cost with paper and ink for a 24x36 inch poster is about $7.50. It takes about 7 to 10 min to print each one. The accounting manager software is great and will tell you the cost of each print. It took a bit of searching to find the correct download from Canon for the accounting software. Setup was easy but takes some time. The box is huge! Once out of the box 2 people can manage it. Printed quite a few full size posters with the starter ink but plan on ordering more soon if you print a lot. Very happy I made the purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I made the right choice! Replaced my ipf6100 with this beast and am glad I did. Took a bit longer to get set up than I had thought it would, but wasn't bad for a 1 time thing. I've printed about 30 posters so far. 12x18, 18x24, 24x36 All looked excellent. Loading/feeding a roll of paper is much easier that on the 6100. (After you've done it once). Being in front helps that as well. Tried printing a couple at the various quality settings and could not tell a difference. Need to do more research on when the chroma optimizer (CO) is used. I don't think I'll need/want to use it often. The immediate thing I noticed is that with my 6100, to minimize the image loss when printing borderless, I would reduce the image size by about 1/10th inch, then set the canvas size to the intended target. First time I printed on the 2000, it printed with the border. (I saw it on the previewer but sent to printer anyway). I removed the border and it printed near perfect. *Maybe I had something going on in my setup of the 6100, but nothing I could find. Love the ink tank design, with multiple tank sizes and the internal reservoirs so you get to use all of the ink. *****At this point I would rate it 5 stars, but haven't been using it enough to be sure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better User Interface than older units, Great colors Instructions were clearly written and unit went together well. A small issue linking wirelessly to my Mac. Really was puzzled over ICC profiles for Canon Papers. The Canon site says the profiles are included with the driver. The key is - they are not listed separately in the Library - The are internal to the driver. When I added the printer on the mac, the system defaulted to an apple driver. Had to call support to learn to select the correct canon driver. I previously had a prograff 5100 which was much more cumbersome to operate. The user I/F on this machine is much better, and package includes job cost management app and media update app. Have only run a few prints so far on sheet and roll, but all good so far
